Hypothetically speaking, I'm a freshman who doesn't know a lot about football and just moved from a place where college football isn't really a big deal. I'd like to root for the school I attend and learn more about football as a whole by going to a game.
But you would say I can't go to a game without learning about a quarterback I never saw play and the last few years of our football program that 90% of our fan base wants to forget anyway?
That's retarded.

I only remember one game last year where there were problems with overcrowding . . . VT, and that was because more people were allowed into the game than were supposed to be when the students rushed the gate.
You can just drop the crap with going back to the old system . . . as has been said 1895421390592754 times, athletics has spent too much money for the current system to go back. 9/26/2006 5:38:27 PM |

i still say a hybrid of the two systems is the solution.
still do online claiming and all. but either pick up printed tickets from reynolds OR do a hand stamp or bracelet for those on the lower level. 9/26/2006 5:41:15 PM |
markgoal All American 15996 Posts user info edit post |
Why would they do a hybrid? The whole reason athletics was interested in the online system was so they wouldn't have to staff a window. Also, Stafford and others are opposed to having to physically show up on campus to get tickets because it put students that won't make the effort at a disadvantage. 9/26/2006 5:46:48 PM |

3 questions to be eligible for tickets: 1. Who was Philip Rivers and what was his number? 2. T/F When the home team is on offense, the crowd should make as much noise as possible. 3. Why is there no yellow line on the field? 9/26/2006 5:57:38 PM |

overcrowding perhaps? 9/26/2006 6:30:59 PM |

They claimed they were at capacity but there were plenty of open spots. The main probably I saw was people coming in late and thinking they should be able to cram into first few rows.
heck, the cops in the section were more worried about trying to catch people with airplane bottles than anything else.

Exactly.
Fuck safety! Who has illegal liquor?
As this rate, the only thing that's really going to make a difference on the issue of overcrowding is a combination of too many people standing on benches and a touchdown leading to a serious injury (with reduced accessibility to the injured as a result of overcrowding as icing). 9/26/2006 7:18:16 PM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
hah, I sat at the end of one of the rows in section 7 and had plenty of room to begin with. By the end of the game, so many people had crammed into that row that nearly everyone had to stand sideways. Needless to say that I nearly broke my neck on that game winning touchdown since I forgot that I was already standing on the edge of the bleacher. 9/26/2006 7:29:03 PM |

actually when I went up to see what exactly was wrong, the head guy said that capacity and firecode wasn't what was keeping them from letting people back in. He claimed that they couldn't handle the long line, which didn't make sense at all...anyway, the meeting is tomorrow afternoon, so I'll post what changes will be in place after that...they are already willing to do stamps or wristbands, so we'll see9/26/2006 8:11:52 PM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
hah. I honestly believe that 90% of those people are incompetent. They kept bringing up the fire code and whatnot when we asked. who knows.
and stamps are the only 100% foolproof plan cause it can't be reproduced or given to someone else.

to an extent yes, but that is only because they aren't trained to handle situations like those. So when something does pop up, no one knows what to do and they all act retarded while waiting to hear from someone higher up what to do. But by the time someone high enough up is alerted or someone figures out what to do, the situation has changed into something else and what should have been a simple solution no longer works.
and the stamps will have to be issued at the gates to the stadium, thus making problems there worse and requiring more congestion. Maybe they should designate one of the gates especially for those sections, but that will add more confusion about what gate people are supposed to enter.

I didnt say you shouldnt be allowed into the game in this scenario...I was just saying you're stupid if you dont know it. i came up with that LAST year guys...the problem is the paper tickets that athletics would then have to print off would add even more money to this system.
its a simple idea, bracelets as you enter that determine what section you are in, if u dont have a bracelet u dont get in...how hard is that (or a stamp, whatever) 9/27/2006 1:13:48 AM |

totally agree . . . everyone wants to be front row of section 7 or 8. I sat there for all but one game last season and it is nothing special. If you come to the game to actually see the game, it is actually worse. Some of the best seats are in the front rows of sections 14 and 15. The endzone sections just flat out suck though, you can't judge worth shit what is going on at the other end of the field.9/27/2006 5:33:25 PM |
