The more I read about shit like this, the more I begin to think that collegiate revenue sports should be given an overhaul.

To have a semi-academic school with some integrity become the laughing stock of college sports b/c it's football team is a bunch of dumbass Neandertals is just embarrassing. Maybe we could find a football equivalent to what the U.K. has in soccer. They have shitloads of local clubs from Man. United all the way down to the smallest local clubs that compete in weaker leagues.

This isn't about college football anymore, its about academic institutions nationwide pouring over a billion dollars into one sport and pampering half-retarded ogres because they can catch a fucking ball or run fast. Meanwhile, our universities raise tuition and penalize students for their school's success in sports

"October 16, 2006

To the University Community:

Saturday's on-field melee has no place at the University of Miami.

What happened Saturday night at the Orange Bowl was outrageous. Regardless of who started it, this was an embarrassing display of unsportsmanlike behavior. Fortunately there were no injuries.

FIU President Mitch Maidique and I talked by phone shortly after the incident on Saturday night. We both expressed deep disappointment and apologized to each other on behalf of our institutions.

What was envisioned as an opportunity for two hometown teams to provide an evening of athletic competition resulted in a brawl that brought embarrassment to the teams, our universities, and our community.

The University of Miami simply will not tolerate or condone this type of behavior. Period. We expect the best from our students. Indeed we hold all of them to a high standard of personal conduct.

The one bright light is that the thousands of students from both institutions who attended the game behaved in exemplary fashion and kept their seats and their heads.

On Sunday the Atlantic Coast Conference conducted an independent review of the incident. As a result of that review, last night the ACC and the University of Miami announced that 13 student-athletes have been suspended for the game this coming weekend.

The ACC maintains rigorous behavioral and academic standards for student-athletes. We are satisfied with their decision.

Sincerely,

Donna E. Shalala
President"

^U know. An even better part is "We are satisfied with their decision." I bet you are. You have 13 players suspended for one game which just so happens to be Duke. I'd be pretty satisfied with that too...

that is a pretty bullshit letter.

talking about how deeply saddened she was by it, how it has no place in the university blah blah blah

but a single game suspension is adequate.

thats horse shit.

If she really felt that deeply about it and how it really had no place in her institution, make it have no place with full year suspensions or possibly even revokation of scholarships.

i mean, guys get suspended for more than a game for lesser situations, suspending them for the duke game is basically saying, i dont give a shit.

Oh Puh Lease....cry baby wanna be athlete mantra....

Yes how they handled the situation was wrong, but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. Alot of program are very peaceful, no enthusiasm, and very mundane and thus no-fun to watch. Just b/c a few teams get rowdy here and there no need for the down talk of college football.

And alot of your "Ogre's" end up being alot smarter and more educated than many non-athletic collegiate graduates.

The raising money aspect....tell me how much the football program brings in v. other areas of income (besides parking tickets - every school makes a killing off that).

^^^ They do. Too bad they sold the conferences very well recognized ethics to the shitter when they acquired Va Tech and Miami, two of the more dirty programs out there; while in the process completely ruining the tradition-laden (and more important) basketball league.

btw did anyone hear the idiotic ex-Miami player who does their color commentary? That was priceless. How the heck did that dude get a job in radio..

For those who haven't heard Lamar Thomas' comments, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JWeE9KqZjQ

Meriweather should be gone for the rest of the year for blatantly stepping on other players' legs.
Reddick should also be kicked out for trying to crack people over the head with his helmet.
Morse should quit school and get a WWE contract because that suplex was awesome.

Anyone wanna go to Duke this Saturday?

Dude, this is not the end of it. The University Board, coaching staff, team captains, and NCAA/ACC officials still have not finished discussing the penalties for the players.

Alumni are PISSED OFF. Not just pissed, but REALLY REALLY pissed and threatening to suspend support. This is as bad as it can get for UM Football. Heads are going to roll for this eventually.

This is what happens when you put a disciplinarian coach (Butch Davis) to clean up a program and then pass it on to a big dumb creampuff (Larry Coker). Then the big dumb creampuff fires all the hard-ass coaches (like Art Kehoe). Fills the coaching staff with more big dumb creampuffs. Program loses control.

you need to stop talking about duke winning

the two main suspensions are safeties, no big deal, miami has plenty of athletes, one guy Barney was an O lineman that we were recruiting. Wright is fine, tailback is fine, most of the offense is in tact. They will probably blow duke out by 30+ points

I hate Miami a whole bunch but not enough to want Duke to win. The last thing we need is another Fake Forest trying to sell themselves as an upstart football program.

It's funny how people are bitching about the players being suspended for just the Duke game.

Grobe did the same thing last year, when a couple of his players were accused of sexual assault. They were suspended for the Duke game...and then quietly reinstated for the game against GT the following week.

And yet the perception is that Grobe's program is spotless.

Smokes and screens, smokes and screens

They beat us because they used their heads...gg for them. They're living the highlife, but they won't be able to compete with the large public universities year in and year out.

PLus, Jim Grobe will not make a career at Wake.

that doesnt make them fake or unrespectable, thats a stupid think to say about that team

that team is the prime example of getting the most out of your players and EXPECTING them to perform at that level each game..i love and respect what Jim Grobe is doing out there especially after a week of Virginia Tech and Miami's Harlem street thuggery

i dont think Jim Grobe would leave, they talked about this on Adam Gold's show and he made a good pointt that no one is looking for that style of coach, coaching, or offense anymore

sorry for the rants i just want the ACC better from top to bottom

Why?

Wake fans LOVE him. There is virtually no pressure on Grobe at all.

And he doesn't seem likely to leave--he's had better offers and turned them down.

a sexual assault in which they werent proven guilty? as in they were only accused?

Jim Grobe is a good coach for suspending them at all

They were just "accused" at the time. Absolutely nothing had been cleared up at the time they were reinstated.

Somehow Wake pulled a masterful job of keeping the story out of the media. I only heard about it from someone who worked with the players.

Do you know how much evidence it takes to be "accused" of sexual assault? Not a whole hell of a lot. That situation is NOTHING like what happened in Miami. Reddick, Merriweather, and the suplex kid should be kicked out of school. They're getting a free "education" to play football, and they shouldn't be able to do either after the shit they pulled.
