I'm not saying he's the best ever, but the drummer for 311 is pretty damn good

too many styles and drummers to pick "best." one of the first songs that popped into my mind was Smashing Pumpkins - Geek USA

[Edited on June 13, 2013 at 11:54 PM. Reason : but that song is kinda just one big drum solo. not really my cup of tea]

^^ The story about the recording of that is so great. The band went to Wisconsin hoping that Jimmy Chamberlain would be able to get off dope, but he had found a dealer within two hours of arriving. He disappeared and missed two days in the studio, then showed up strung out for the "Geek USA" session. He sat down and nailed the track in one take. They made him do it 15 more times as punishment for disappearing, but ended up using the first take.

As much as I like to rag on lamb of god, Chris Adler is a pretty interesting drummer. He's not super technical or anything but for playing pretty boring standardish riffs he does some cool stuffs

I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

I like the drums on "How Many More Times," by Led Zeppelin

Also, I find Neil Peart to be technically proficient, but lacking in energy and soul. He's almost a case of "style over substance."

And though I'm no drummer, I even feel that technically he's not that good...I wouldn't call him a virtuoso. Mitch Mitchell owns his ass.

I'd go with The National - Don't Swallow The Cap. or Brainy. or Graceless. Any of their songs, really.

One of the sickest bass/drum/percussion jams I've heard is in moe.'s "Brent Black" from their live album L 3.1; it starts around the 19:24 mark in the video below, which hopefully cues up, and lasts about eight minutes:

I've always been in love with the middle portion of The Mars Volta's Cicatriz Esp.

From 4:00 to 5:45 is perfect. Not too complex, really relaxed, but far from vanilla. It just feels good.

I've never understood this type of attitude.

Either listen to it and provide some criticism or don't listen to it and keep your opinion to yourself.
