^ yeah, you're probably right b/c we always play a random team from the Coastal Division along with UNC... (plus we're done with the two-season rotation with Georgia Tech...)
Btw... I just realized that we're playing Orange Bowl Champion top-10 ranked Louisville next year at home in "the Carter" with most of their starters returning...
CAN'T WAIT TO GET A TICKET NEXT YEAR TO SEE THAT GAME!!! 1/3/2007 12:13:13 AM |

If those two don't enter the draft Louisville could be as high as #2 preseason. 1/3/2007 9:48:45 AM |

With that schedule, I'm hoping TOB can pull a .583 season. For the idiots who don't want to do the math, that's 7-5. Although I would be satisfied with 6-6.
Guess we'll have to wait til summer/fall to figure out the starting QB. 1/3/2007 3:23:50 PM |

I know Archer was at Kentucky, playing against great competition with a lack of good talent while on probation, but his defenses' stats are absolutely abysmal. Avg NCAA Rank 2003 Total Defense 382.25 66 Scoring Defense 26.8 69 Passing Defense 195.58 26 Rushing Defense 186.7 88

^ Yeah , but he has SOME head coaching experience and led LSU to a SEC championship back in the 80's....
Remember, he is currently the DC of KENTUCKY which doesn't have as much football support as LSU, we hope that, if hired, he will have alot of support with O'Brien and upgraded facilities as the Murphy Center...
KENTUCKY actually had a decent season this year, and won their bowl game....
A good read from a Lexington, KY news station (WTVQ 36)

Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Rich Brooks may be in the market for a new defensive coordinator.
A UK spokesman told the Courier-Journal that Mike Archer has interviewed for the defensive coordinator position at North Carolina State.
Archer was in North Carolina on Wednesday and returned today. Archer has connections at N.C. State as he and new Wolfpack head coach Tom O'Brien coached together at Virginia in the early 90's.

A good read of Mike Archer from wikipedia...
Quote : | "Archer came to LSU as an assistant coach in 1984 after being both a player and an assistant coach at Miami. He replaced Bill Arnsparger as LSU head coach in 1987, when Arnsparger left for the University of Florida to become athletic director. He was Arnsparger's defensive coordinator in 1985 and 1986, and was Arnsparger's hand-picked successor. When he took the job, he was 34 years old, and the youngest head coach in Division I-A football.
Archer's first two years were memorable at LSU. In 1987, LSU finished in the top ten with a 10-1-1 record. It was LSU's first 10-win season in more than 25 years. He followed it up with a SEC Championship in 1988, and an 8-4 record. The season was also famous for the "Earthquake Game," a 7-6 victory over Auburn University, which would ultimately be the deciding factor in LSU's SEC Championship.
After leaving LSU, Archer remained in coaching, but strictly as a defensive coach. In 1991, he became linebackers coach at the University of Virginia. In 1993, Archer became linebackers coach and assistant head coach at the University of Kentucky. He moved on to the NFL in 1996, where he served as linebacker coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers for seven years. However, Archer returned to the University of Kentucky as the defensive coordinator in 2003." |

Update on Mike Archer....
Apparently, the Pittsburgh Steelers may be interested in hiring Mike Archer for their DC job per the top two candidates to replace Bill Cowher... Just speculation now though
Quote : | "Archer decision by Wednesday If you have not heard yet, Mike Archer has interviewed with North Carolina State to become their next defensive coordinator under new coach Tom O'Brien whom he had coached with at Virginia in 1991. According to some media accounts, the deal is worth $500,000, including incentives, per year for three years.
Add to that the fact that WKYT in Lexington is reporting that former Steelers assistants Ken Whizenhunt and Russ Grimm are targets for head coaching positions in the NFL and both are interested in bringing Archer in as their defensive coordinators. " |

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State hired former Philadelphia Eagles assistant Mike Reed as its defensive backs coach on Thursday.
Reed served as the Eagles' defensive assistant-quality control coach the past four seasons.
Andy McCollum, the former head coach at Middle Tennessee who spent last season as a scout for the Tennessee Titans, was also hired to coach the Wolfpack linebackers.
"Both of these coaches bring unique experiences to our staff," new coach Tom O'Brien said. "I'm glad to have our complete staff in place and am confident that each coach has the same goal that I do for NC State football: to produce champions in the classroom, in the community and on the football field."
McCollum, 47, was the head coach at Middle Tennessee from 1999-2005 and guided the Blue Raiders through their transition from Division I-AA to I-A. He was fired after his fourth consecutive losing season and an overall record of 34-45." |
