signing contracts is dumb...because when something better comes out you are still stuck in that contract. It also gives them the power to have shitty service. If it costs money to cancel your account and switch providers...majority won't do it just to find a better service.

but ive been a customer and i researched the service, i even tried it out for 30 days
and if something better comes out you would just have to pay full price like the rest of the world, but you still saved on the last phone

so, yeah id rather save the money

maybe the lawsuit is part of the negotiations... apple and cisco are both getting lots of press and its overshadowing many of the discussions that would be going on from another technology company... heard much about the zune or vista on tv latley? just a conspiracy theory

That's just a roundabout way of saying that people in Europe and the Middle East are bad with money. I guess that explains why you hate jews so much.

^ Cisco is going to make all the money off the Iphone with the nice lawsuit they filed . Honestly, apple was so stupid in keeping the name when they knew about cisco's rights to the name (which has been previously denied for use by Cisco).

Cingular dosn't have great service in THIS area. I'm a living testimony to that. But I have peeps who live in other areas that say it great there. Guess it must be a regional thing.

I think Apple will get off easy because of this fact...
Quote :
"A British company called Orate Telecommunications Services also offers a VoIP phone called an iPhone, and closer to home, a San Jose, Calif., company called Teledex offers an iPhone for hotel rooms."

It doesn't make sense for Cisco to leave these companies alone all this time, when they make a MUCH more similar product to their own, then jump on Apple now for their considerably more different product.

I think Cisco will still prevail in making Apple choose a different name, but they won't get awarded any damages. It would be astonishing though if Apple somehow won, esp. since they've already been negotiating with Cisco.

Also, at the level the other 2 companies deal it they are not really a problem... people all over the world when you say Iphone arent going to be like hmm isnt that the phone some british place makes over cisco ( maybe a few people). However, with the apple iphone and the amount of advertising they will do for it people woudl soon only think of apple when they hear Iphone.... (Hence why it is important when apple wants to use it.. but not some no name company)

Some blogger has that to say about it, supposedly, Cisco didn't really use the name soon enough.

^, it doesn't say what those "enforcement actions" in the past entailed, and to me, that actually just sounds like PR double-speak.

And AFAIK, trademark enforcement is up to the holder of the trademark, and the scale of infringement is not really relevant. In any case, it will give Apple a cheap way out, if they want, if they pointed out that Cisco didn't enforce the trademark, which would cause Cisco to go after those other companies, and allow Apple to change the iPhone's name.

Or Apple could somehow win.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/29/verizon-passed-up-apple-iphone-deal/

Verizon passed on the iPhone - Apple was demanding, among other things, a cut of monthly service fees. Given that cell operators are on the "razor blade" model of pricing, it doesn't suprise me at all that VZW passed this up. Giving away profit margin is never a good business plan. Add in the control Apple wanted over service, selling, etc, and it really smells like shit.

I hope Cingular got a better deal. Otherwise iPhone users could be staring at a service charge, two different customer support centers for their phone, etc. That would be the second bad move for the company in a month (the first being de-branding Cingular and turning it into AT&T).

where the fuck do you get that? Apple wanted a percentage of the money VZW charges for service. That is, not only does VZW pay them for the phone, they also pay them monthly for every customer who has the phone. not much for reading are you? thus, in order to keep their current profit margins, VZW would have had to charge MORE for users of the iPhone or take a hit on their bottom line

i'm sure you'll be really happy if you wait for apple customer service only to be told it's a cingular problem...two hold times for the price of one!! woohoo!!

LG electronics is coming out with a phone very similar to the iPhone and is supposedly coming out before the iPhone. Its already out on the market in Europe.

Another plus is that you can buy it straight up without a 2-year contract like iPhone through cingular, even though will prob cost you.

from TheOffice

Consumers not willing to pay $500 for the iPhone!
Or thats the conlusion reached in a survey of 379 Americans.

WHAT THE FUCK. There is no way this is an accurate representation of American consumerism, and there is no possible way to get an accurate random sample of 300mil people from 379 people! Is this a fucking joke?

"San Francisco (IDGNS) - Consumers aren't willing to pay what Apple may ask for the iPhone, but if the price drops they'll switch their mobile service to AT&T in order to get it, according to results of a survey released Thursday.

Online market research firm Compete Inc. surveyed 379 people in the U.S., most of whom had heard of the iPhone and have shopped for an iPod, to find out how interested they are in the device to produce the uncommissioned report. The iPhone is a combined music player and cell phone that Apple plans to start selling in the U.S. in June.

Among the 26 percent of respondents who said they're likely to buy an iPhone, only 1 percent said they'd pay $500 for it. When Apple introduced the iPhone in January, it said it would cost $500 on the low end.

Forty-two percent of those who said they're likely to buy the phone said they'd pay $200 to $299.

The iPhone will be available only to subscribers of Cingular Wireless, now part of AT&T. In a blow to the operator's competitors, 60 percent of those in the survey who said they were likely to buy the phone said they'd switch their mobile operator in order to get it.

While the iPhone has been discussed as a competitor to other handsets like Research In Motion's BlackBerry, the two serve very different markets, said Andy Neff, an analyst at Bear Stearns who participated in a conference call to discuss the results of the study. "Even though there's talk about this as an alternative to RIM, it's not a corporate product," he said. Instead, the iPhone is an indication of a broad shift toward smartphones and the emergence of niches within the category, he said.

The analysts were split on what price they think the device will ultimately retail for. Operators recently haven't been discounting phones in the similar price range as the iPhone, said Phil Cusick, an analyst at Bear Stearns.

However, Apple has been known to announce a product with one price and ultimately sell it for less. Apple TV, for example, was expected to cost $399 but sells for $299, he said.

The phone may start out around $500 because early adopters will pay that, said Neff. But pricing will likely drop by $100 to $200 to target the mass market, he said."

i'm sick of this thread locking, i can't stand searching 20+ pages for a topic that was discussed just because we want to throw everything under one "ALL-ENCOMPASSING" thread... i mean really WTF

why not just have one thread and call it the wolf web general discussion thread...

i guess i wouldn't mind as much if TWW had a competent search engine.

This is the iPhone discussion thread. That other thread was made to discuss the iPhone. It really doesn't get more clear than this. That other thread is redundant. TWW's search isn't perfect, but if you do a search for iPhone, this thread shows up (and it was on the 1st page of Tech Talk)

As much as I hate to agree with dFshadow, he's right. You really don't have much of a leg to stand on here Prospero.

^^i was talking about finding a specific discussion about the iphone, not a single thread about the iphone... for that the search is useless unless they are seperate threads. (since TWW doesn't have post searching)

since this is tech talk this really should be discussed here

you can continue talking about anything related to the iphone now, since i guess my thread was somehow too generic.

folks in the US are spoiled about the cost of cell phones, in places like Japan you have to buy your phone then you can pick what service you want... thus they push phone tech and sales. here you might pay an extra $50 or something for a better phone from a provider.... but not too many people out and out buy high end cell phones here yet
