^^

Because I want it and don't see why CSC majors shouldn't have access.

I'd like to point out anyone enrolled in a CSC class can download from the MSDNAA by using this link. It is specific to the CSC department instead of ECE.

what does that mean? i haven't really been following vista news at all since i wasn't planning on getting it before they gave it to us for free. are there compatibility issues with xvid?

No, but Standard and Enterprise are.

So far MS has only released Business edition to MSDNAA. If you have a academic reason to need Ultimate, you should lobby MS.

^^ in xp i can play a 24 xvid rip perfectly, in vista it can't keep the video/audio synced... my computer is more than adequate to play the file. either the codecs suck in vista or some drivers aren't worth a damn in vista (nvidia?)

oh and half life 2 runs noticeably slower in vista using the same performance settings.

^ nvidia drivers for vista suck right now, as well as a lot of other peoples drivers for vista ( like the $250 mobo I just bought that sucks ass with vista). Either way, the video thing could be the player you're using. Grab VLC, it works fine in vista for me.

anyone else think vista feels really sluggish compared to xp? (mostly referring to the UI)

i like it and all (besides for fucking hp not supplying drivers for their printers), but this sluggish thing has got to go

yeah, i got it because of csc200 this semester - was quite surprised, didn't know they gave MSDNAA to csc200 students.

vista = sucks.

they do have windows xp embedded, though - that's awesome.

I was trying to put a .dll file in System32 today and I had to confirm the move about 5 times, then it popped up a status bar to move a 1mb file...

WTF VISTA

the file move/copy/paste problem was supposedly fixed in a hotfix released by MS. btw, this is the x86 version.

http://hotfix.xable.net/download/index.php?dir=Language%20Neutral/Vista/&file=Windows6.0-KB931770-x86.msu

if it doesn't start downloading: click the link once, click the anti leech box and continue, then close the page and click the link of the forums again and it will start the download.

im dual booting on my Macbook Pro

Games run fine in Vista, I just think the whole Access Control is dumb. If I click on a program to run it, OF COURSE I would like to run it.

Also, putting shit in the recycle bin requires administrator approval even if you are the administrator

then turn off UAC like i did which gets rid of those allow/deny popups.

i don't get that ever. it goes right to the recycle bin; but that may be cause of the UAC as well.

dual booting here too. u can turn off the constant authorization requests from the user accounts control panel. the recycle bin issue... i have never had that problem before.

vista is a glorified version of xp, but i like it... seems faster and to a degree more stable.
