i've heard it's relatively taboo to sign your name with ",Esq."
it's usually only a title to be bestowed upon the person.
as in correspondence going to the lawyer may be addressed to "John Doe, Esq"
but correspondence from the lawyer should generally be from "Mr. John Doe"
thats just what i heard though. 1/24/2007 11:22:43 AM |

First off, the men's rights stuff is perfectly acceptable. Think of it like this: is it okay for women to have all girls' gyms/clubs/etc., but not for men to have all mens' clubs/etc.? I was actualy thinking about this just the other day when I passed by this Curves place, the gym for women only. I don't ever GO to a gym, but I still thought it was unfair. How many times in the past twenty or so years have there been lawsuits that have filed suit against all male establishments to let women in, and then now there is the same kind of hypocrisy happening?
I think that's the kinds of mens' rights he's talking about. Also, look at the fact that in most cases of divorce, the mother automatically gets support and child custody. The father should have just as much right as the mother. We are just now getting to a point where people are recognizing paternity leave at work. Is it right to expect that a new father should have no time to spend with his child, but OF COURSE a new mother should have that time?
I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about a guy whose wife hit him in the head with a frying pan while he was sleeping, and everyone laughed at it. But then they said if a guy hits a woman with a frying pan, no one laughs. Those kinds of double standard issues need to be addressed. I don't know the numbers, but I'm pretty sure that there are a decent percentage of domestic violence cases that involve female to male violence, and those guys have no support at all. They just get called pussies for getting beat up by a woman. 1/24/2007 3:06:10 PM |

1) you say "we are just now getting to a point", implying that this is happening now. so what's your problem. We can only change things going forward, not what happened in the past. 2) yes, mother's DO have more of a right to be with their new born babies. Personally, i think there should be paternity leave and i think it's best for both parents to be with newborns, but if I had to pick one or the other, i would pick the mother. They have these things called mammary glands, that men don't have, which produce milk that is the baby's only sustenance for a couple months. So, ummm, yeah - the mothers should be there to keep the baby alive. The fathers should be there for support.1/24/2007 5:16:03 PM |

UGa Law is pretty good. Not T20 (Harvard, Yale, Cal, Stanford, Duke, etc) or anything but good nonetheless. Certainly only VERY RARE exceptions can get in with a 2.4. He must've gotten a 173+ on the LSAT and some bangup rec's..

There's no way Wolfpack2K got an A+ in symbolic logic, if by that you mean he aced LOG 335: "Symbolic Logic". The course description informs us that the topics are:
Quote : | "Introduction to modern symbolic logic; the concept of proof, mathematical induction, recursion and the relationship between formal and informal theories (examples: group theory, Peano arithmetic). The Gödel Theorems and the mathematical study of logic." |
There's simply no way that someone as stupid as Wolfpack2K could do better than a C in that class. He might have managed an A+ in LOG 201, aka "Logic", aka "If You Can Read You Can Pass This Course", which is described as covering such topics as:
Quote : | "Introduction to methods of deductive inference. Concepts of inconsistency and entailment. Truth Functional Statement Logic and Quantifier and Predicate Logic. Representation of logically significant form of statements and arguments. Procedures to discover and notation to write down proofs." |

That's the exact kind of thinking that keeps anyone from finding out. Here's some information I found out from a wikipedia search of domestic violence.
Quote : | "In 2002, men comprised 24% of domestic violence homicide victims." |
Of course, if those men had just washed the sand out of their vaginas, I'm sure they would be alive today.
Quote : | "it is ok for there to be a mens only gym, in fact there are mens only gyms so quit whining fatass" |
I'll take your point that there are men's only gyms. I was not aware of this, since I have never worked out at a gym. The last time I was in a gym was taking PE in college because it was required, so I guess I am out of the loop on that one. And strangely, it's not because I'm a fatass, it's because I participate in extremely active sports year round to keep fit. I'm in better shape than most of the fuckers who go to the gym regularly.
Quote : | "You sound just like him, and I'll be willing to bet that you have sexual identity issues just like him." |
That's right, because I disagree with you, I must have "sexual identity" issues, right? I'm assuming that's your special euphamism for being a fag. You should probably call up my girlfriend and tell her, so she knows. Or would you rather I just nail your mom again to prove it to you so she can have two bastard sons?
I figure if we're going to attack people and not bother sticking to issues anymore, I might as well get in on the fun.
And agentlion, I think that the reason those rights probably exist now is because people are championing those causes, and apparently Chuck Jones is one of those people. I know that to say that no one should be fighting for men's rights in certain areas is a pretty foolish view in my opinion. I don't honestly know much about men's rights issues, but I do know that I get tired of the acceptance of certain double standards and the rejection of others.
I'll debate the issue ad infinitum if you guys would like, I love a good ideological discussion.
On the other hand, if you'd like to keep insulting me, I'll have just as much fun coming up with varied Rickles-esque comments of my own.1/24/2007 8:12:13 PM |

or maybe not slept around, beaten their wives, etc. im sure there are some who are beaten by their wives, but not 24%.
i hate to tell you, but women are generally the weaker sex...thats called genetics. this is why women are protected more thoroughly. does the opposite happen? sure, but i think the laws are skewed for a very obvious reason
and if you dont understand why women get more rights when it comes to having a baby, you are hopeless. there are a variety of hormonal, psychological, and other factors that come into play for a woman that dont for a man.

ok, i'm going to try to stay out of this unrelated argument, but while 24% of domestic homicides are commited by women, I would venture to guess a much, much smaller percent of regular (as in regurlarly occuring) domestic abuse is committed woman on man.
It's very easy to imagine that men abuse women and sometimes kill them, accidently or on purpose. It's also easy to imagine sometimes women retaliate with deadly force, probably by simply shooting him. If this woman were included in the 24%, it would be a huge misrepresentation, because initially she was the victim of regular abuse by the man, then she turned around and killed him straight up. 1/24/2007 9:24:51 PM |
FuhCtious All American 11955 Posts user info edit post |
I agree with both of you guys in that a much higher percentage of domestic violence victims, especially those who are seriously injured, are female, and if we had to choose between providing support and care for the female or the male victims, clearly we should choose the former.
My point, though, is that it's not a zero sum game. It's not like battered womens' shelters preclude counseling services for male victims of domestic abuse. The same point is the one I am making for the other areas. I mean, there is a huge P.R. campaign out there about breat cancer in women, and everyone always talks about it, but how much do you hear about prostate cancer, essentially the male equivalent? The numbers are almost identical. This doesn't mean we should stop trying to prevent breast cancer and lower awareness, but that we should try to improve preventative measures for prostate cancer.
Advocacy doesn't have to come at the expense of someone else. 1/25/2007 12:31:19 AM |

As much as I hate to have Chuck's back about anything in light of this thread, I should say that there's no way he got that grade out of incompetence; anyone who can post on this website can get an A+ in that class. The work isn't difficult -- on the contrary, it's so easy that it would insult the intelligence of anyone who has ever successfully used the internet to find or do anything -- but they assign a hell of a lot of it, usually to the tune of:
1) Google X 2) Write six pages about what you found. 3) Do this once a week.
Even that's not bad in and of itself, but for one stinking credit I know a lot of us just couldn't bring ourselves to let our intelligence be insulted (and our time thoroughly wasted) by such nonsense, so we were all pretty apathetic about the whole thing. I think a lot of people get C+ and B- in that class, just because...who cares?
[/rant]
Alright, sorry, I've been wanting to rant about how stupid PS 101 is for about three years, and I think that got it out of my system. I will now return to the spirit of the thread:
If you get a 2.4 in PS, you are not just stupid -- you're a disgrace. You're exactly why no one takes the program here seriously, and frankly, I wish a lifetime of suffering befall you. I hope all of the bad things in the world happen to you, and only you, and I hope that someone finds and posts with a quickness the article that is bound to come out eventually about you being a homosexual/child molestor/horsefucker/assorted other sexual deviant.1/25/2007 12:53:53 PM |
joe_schmoe All American 18758 Posts user info edit post |
okay. good point. i know i blew off some stupid 1 CR classes. i probably woulda blown that off too. it sounds intolerably retarded.
but that doesnt explain the C- in "American Political Thought" ... or the 2.4 overall in PS.
but, you gotta give the guy benefit of the doubt here. if he says he got an A+ in Logic... we should believe him.
its not like hes a pathological liar. 1/25/2007 1:04:52 PM |
GrumpyGOP yovo yovo bonsoir 18191 Posts user info edit post |
Oh, absolutely. Political Thought isn't a breeze, but it's not something any sentient person should be making C- in, either. Especially if Solari is still teaching it -- not because he's easy, but god damned if he isn't determined to get the material into your head.
And, again, the 2.4 is inexcusable. It gives me hope that he managed to get into some postgraduate stuff with that embarassment, if he can even get a job after that then I should be able to walk into Duke and get them to give me a free ride. Won't happen, but in a fair and just world, it would. 1/25/2007 1:11:48 PM |

Actually, I do know what preclude means, and I used it in the appropriate context. I think you may have an improper understanding of the word. The meaning is that having a support group for women does not make it impossible for us to also have similar support groups for battered men.
On a side note, I think it's funny that we use the same word for hitting a woman and covering my onion rings in a delicious, tasty coating. And beer is essential in both!

As far as his grades go, it looks like he may have started in community college. So the grades he got in his first two years didn't count towards his GPA. I'm sure a lot of folks have 3.0+ overall, but a 2.5 for their last couple years. Meh.
And I kinda get the idea that a guy like Chuck is proud to not have done well in some of his classes. Acing some liberal's class doesn't mean much maybe. Why do you need school when you already know everything there is to know about yourself and the way the world should work? 1/25/2007 2:06:21 PM |
