"

It feels OK. I realize this is a purely football school. 71,706 screaming fans to every home football game...even the meaningless games. I knew it would be difficult to win here, but I had no idea it would be this tough to get people excited about the program. A reported 8,000 fans came out to see us play #5 UCLA last night. 8,000 fucking people?!?!?! This isn't intramurals! This is division-1 basketball in the PAC-10!!! More people came out to watch games at Miami. And we all know about the fan base in Raleigh. Hopefully my great incoming class along with the experience gained by this year's young team will get butts in the seats next year...along with the excitement of playing in the Maui Invitational and the PAC-10/Big-12 Challenge. We'll see

I agree, there isn't. It sucks to get eliminated early in the tourney. Not as much as not making the tourney though.

And yes, I agree this season is about baby steps and the win against UNC was a much needed boost to the program that Herb simply wasn't delivering against them. However, the past 5 seasons have been infinitely more enjoyable than this one to me even though our record against UNC was - plainly said - pitiful. I think I take issue with the large # of people who say that this season is better than the past few, which is ridiculous to me...

Yeah, I think this season's excitement about our program has more to do with the novelty of change and future prospects rather than the results on the court.

i can't speak for everyone, but here's my opinion on the matter.

while winning is always nice, wins via herbball were boring, and the worst part is that the players came out completely flat, all the time. more than a couple players have said that under herb they were like robots, and that's how it looked. they came out with no energy and just ran through the system, took a lot of 3s, and that was it. sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, but it was always boring to watch. it's like you don't even want to get excited b/c the players seemingly don't care if you are or not.

so having the guys actually get into it and feed off the crowd and stuff has been very nice this season. for right now, i can live w/ not making the tournament. obviously that won't hold up forever, but like you said, babysteps.

and like i said, there is nothing special about a one/two and out in the tournament, which herb seemed to love. we made the dance, but everyone knew it wasn't going anywhere unless jhodge decided to singlehandedly beat uconn, so it reall put a damper on being excited about making it when you know it's not going anywhere.

I disagree with a lot of what you said but I can respect that opinion without a doubt.

As a Knicks fan I was 10... no 100 times more supportive of the mid-90's style play (no offense, but great defense) than I am of the crap I have to watch now.. Not really a great comparison but not totally off either.

But like Bobby implied, this year as a stepping stone to the future has been great to watch..

list of differences:

3-8 != 0-8

beating #3 arch rival != 0-8

losing 4 starters && head coach != herbs asu

having 1 full month with no head coach and lots of doubt in bball situation != asu's planned steal

i could go on.. but I have hw

conclusion: herb really is sucking balls, and sidney lowe has been fairly impressive with his predicted last in the ACC squad of newbies"

So according to you ASU didn't lose their coach? They didn't lose 4 starters and their top two scorers? One transfered to UNLV to play for his dad and the other was kicked off the team. How do you think there was an opening for Herb at ASU if they didn't fire their coach buddy?

Shivan Bird and Novicane with more Fuck Herbs.

The people that are defending Herb actually throw things out there not just say Fuck Herb. And none of the people in here defending Herb are saying shit about Lowe, so why is that even being brought up? Im amazed that some of you have a college education.

Im an idiot. Good comeback.

You are one of the worst posters on TWW...present some fucking evidence asshole.

Kevin Kruger and Bryson Krueger both left ASU, that's their top 2 scorers. Watch some basketball or even better watch ASU play and tell me their talent is better than East Carolina, because it just isn't there. We think our PG position is weak, they have Antwi Antahehehene or whatever running point.

Rob Evans the coach was fired. Watch some damn basketball. Brian Nieman would be their 2nd best player after Pendergraph. The smart posters who actually contribute other than Fuck Herb like NyM410 know the deal.

See where Im going? What do you know? Ohh 0-14. Big fucking stat.....really hard to look hard for that. Come back with some knowledge and Ill actually respond to what you say.

Big deal they lost there two top scores?? We lost 4 of our 5 starters and a head coach. Some how we have managed to win atleast 3 ACC games one being UNC. I mean seriously if you can't win one game in your conference thats bad. Now its not all herbs fault he can only coach a certina type of athlete. With his offense not everyone can play it. I still say good bye herb hello Lowe!!!

Nieman, Horner, and Ferguson would start for them.

And Im in no way knocking Lowe, Im defending Herb.

he'll just go from one rebuilding job to another. and he'll probably do a pretty good job of improving the teams while he's there. nothing spectacular will be accomplished, but he'll achieved what he was hired to do and then he'll leave after the fans realize it.

a healthy Engin would be their leading scorer, leading assist man, leading FT shooter, leading 3-pt shooter....

you're right, boozie. Engin is twice the player of anybody on ASU's roster.

his senior leadership and big game experience would win a lot of those 13 games decided by 5 points or less

he would cream to have a 4 year starter with mucho post-season experience leading these young, inexperienced guys.

you haven't watched any of their games, have you? watch the USC game tonight at 8pm ET and tell me that Engin wouldn't make a huge impact over Derek Glasser or Antwi Atuhene (the current ASU PGs)

Engin has already had a bigger role under lowe than under sendek. Engin is actually performing PG duties. Under herb, he would only bring the ball up, run sendek circles, and shoot threes.

Atsur may help them out alot... but without you getting all pissy and defensive of Herb.... he had us as a bubble team with talent like Melvin, Hodge, Grundy, etc.

He needs a lot more than Atsur to sniff a shot at the NCAA's. I mean, they're terrible

Atsur would run the 2-man game with Pendergraph and would actually be able to make a solid bounce pass to hit a slashing Polk or Shipp. he would know the system and would help implement it to the younger guys

Glasser simply can't do that yet. and don't get me started on Antwi "I'm a PG who shoots 50% from the line" Atuhene

ok first off, you're right, i haven't watched any asu games.

second off, i agree, a senior pg (atsur) would probably make any team a lot better.

HOWEVER, an okay senior pg will probably not take a team with ZERO conference wins to the tourney. atsur is a swell player, but he just isn't good enough to take a team like that on his back, very few players are.

Lets be realistic.

If ASU had Atsur they'd probably be 2-12 or 3-13 in the conference right now.

As much as people love to jack off to Atsur, he's an average college starter at best.

He doesn't score, he's not a GREAT shooter, he's not good at the FT line, he's a very limited ball handler.

He's cagy and he's an above average defender (which for a Euro player is a rare trait).

That's it.

ASU sucks. Herb will always waffle between slightly overachieving and slightly underachieving. Thats how his "safe" style works. He will never be great and will never be terrible (once he gets ~5 years under his belt at ASU)
