First of all you're an ignorant s.o.b.
1. You assumed that the antagonist was black.
2. You suggested that she call "Judy" a nigger.

That's just shows what type of racists trolls still trot around TWW. For all of the white people out there... being called white is not racist!!!! (just like calling someone black is not racist) OMFG!!! And calling someone a "nigger" is not the equivalent of being called "white", you will get beat down. You can make it a point in saying that you would prefer not to be called "white girl" and refer to her as "black girl," that is equivalent.

To: katiencbabe
And from all of your posts you do sound like a "spoiled little girl." You're whining and complaining but obviously never took the time to stand up for yourself. Why didn't you just confront "Judy" about the issue? Regarding your "uncle" either he's an insensitive SOB or more than likely he could see that you were being a spoiled little whiny brat and decided not to come to your "rescue." I'm assuming the latter since you stated he's known you since you were six and been accepted as a part of your family. He wanted you to learn a lesson about the real world which you obviously have not learned.

^^ agree with everything you said except...

I'd equate calling someone a spoiled white girl with calling someone a lazy black man and I consider both of these to be moderately racist. You are correlating once race with an steriotypical undesirable trait.

Threatened? What was she going to do? Be so rude you catch on fire?

Quote :

You didn't. You so didn't. The appropriate actions were to 1) realize that 22-year-old sluts with 3 kids with different daddies in low-level jobs have a lot of problems and are going to be angry often and 2) roll your eyes and let some things slide.

How is saying "She left to pursue an internship" instead of "She ran out the door crying because she couldn't take the pressure" a smear?

lapyramid, even I've been on tww enough to know that most people on here are not racist, and by now you should be able to ignore the ones who are. That's what I did at work, I ignored the actions of coworkers who were racist towards me, just like I ignore sexist comments at other jobs. It's when I get a vibe that made me feel someone is about to physically hurt me that I spoke out. And I did speak to my boss several times. He's not the ultrapro businessman that you think he is. He makes very poor business decisions, has been laid off quite a few times, and has always been too scared to be in a leadership position. He lets others make choices for him, and he was swayed by Judy.

I'm a 5'1" white girl with no muscles, no liking of confrontation, and I feel no need to face up to people who threaten me in a work environment. It's unacceptable for someone to treat me the way Judy and my boss did, but it's even more unacceptable if I stooped to Judy's level. I never made this a race issue, but I sure as hell am going to make it a character issue. People who threaten coworkers should be fired or in the least spoken to, employers who constantly ignore the plea and complaints (form numerous employees) should have consequences as well.

Is it wrong of me to allow a situation to cool down before I discuss my problems with coworkers and employers? And why did I not confront her at the time of the second go round of threats? Because I am not unprofessional. I told my boss and again he did nothing. Judy and I had already had problems 3 months earlier (she thought I was looking through her financial stuff and calling her credit people??? so for two weeks she constantly ignored me, took 3 hour lunch breaks without telling me, and bitched at me) which, after I confronted her when she cooled off, got fixed somewhat.

My uncle is in no way a father figure, nor should your boss be a father/mother figure. The purpose of the job is to make sure a company is efficient in productivity and the use of its resources. 3 hour lunch breaks (paid) for two weeks straight is not productivity. Making the working environment hostile for every other employee is not beneficial to the company. Having clients (and coworkers) leave because of the disrespectful nature of Judy is not exactly good in company promotion. Obviously all of you who are claiming I am a 'princess' have not taken basic economics or business classes. If it helps you think any better, just ignore how they treated me before I quit. Obviously you'd have to agree that it's misrepresentation if they tell the clients that I simply am away for an internship. If you don't even agree with that, there's no need to post in this thread.

[Edited on March 20, 2007 at 10:58 PM. Reason : Shivan Bird, my boss should tell them I quit, because that's what I did]

I want to take back my response this thread.

I forgot I wasn't in the Soap Box and was way too meanish.

katiencbabe, you can sue anyone you want. It only costs a stamp to file a lawsuit.

However, it's not clear that you have a legitimate case.

Furthermore, even if you did have real grounds to sue here, I wouldn't do it because it's tacky.

Most of us will probably endure a few situations where the potential to sue is there, but usually only trashy people actually do it.

^Yes, most of us would consider you colored (not white). So, yeah, you're not in the club.

^No, "colored" in terms of race is a generally offensive term used to describe people who are not white.

Some folks use "people of color."

If putting black folks down and clinging to the idea that you're not black makes you feel better about yourself, it's whatever works for you, man. But don't think for a second that racist white folks would claim your ass. You're shit to them just like everybody else who isn't white, which is one of many compelling reasons why you should look into ditching the racist act. And I'm not just talking about this thread.

My completely unprofessional opinion (though logically sound) is that you really wouldnt have any kind of case against these people, AND that the statement

"I don't like Judy especially and I want to ruin her life."

would not only pretty much make your case invalid, would also even give your old coworker the chance to turn tables around on you and try to sue you for retribution of legal fees for a lawsuit driven by revenge. Just a thought.

Lol should have read the whole post, you already quit

Suing would just be a waste of time. If you didn't feel like standing up to her, you should have gone above you boss (assuming there is some kind of corporate office) and file a complaint that you are being harassed and your boss is not trying to stop it. If that doesn't work, tell them simply that either she goes or you do. You are either worth it to the company or not. Why stay at a job where the employer doesn't protect their employees.

I really don't understand this... if someone referred to me as "white-boy" I wouldn't care. It's clearly racist, but it would be the same as if someone called me "brown-haired boy".... it's clearly true, is it supposed to upset me? I'm not sure why someone who isn't white would throw that in there (is it supposed to make the insult worse or something?). But reverse that situation and omg all hell would break loose.

That is true with light, not pigment (for example, mix a bunch of paint together you don't get white).

Do you really want to sue a family member? I can't imagine that will make this problem go away... ever.

True, in a work sense, what happened was really wrong and action could be taken.

But think about it this way - how far would you get in life if you sued every bitch that can't hold her tounge. It sucks that this happened to you, but I am not sure if pursuing a lawsuit would make anything better for you. This will not be the last time you work with mean, spiteful people. Try to deal with it the best you can.

You can't sue for harrassment, well you can, but you won't win in this state. If you wanted to get back at her, the right way would have been to keep working and make her life miserable at work.

But you walked out, she won, and here we are. Work isn't some happy place you go everyday. A lot of times you have to work with people you don't like, or even hate with a passion, that's just life."

I love learning that I am "expert" in things I was never privy to... I can't believe I'm even giving the time of day to render this response. I am not offended by being referred to as black. I am black. I am proud of being black. I do not feel insulted when people point out behaviors that I am actually exhibiting. If I am being lazy (and of course I'm black) and I am referred to as such I will not make a huge exclamation about it and it will not become some racist rant. It's hilarious and ironic how the people who freely throw the word "nigger" around then try to illustrate black people as being overly sensitive to racism, lol. I will not respond to Golovko because all of his posts have done nothing but illustrate point 1 of my prior post. He is an ignorant s.o.b. And that's all I have to say about the racism/racist remarks/racial callouts or whatever...

In regards to katiencbabe, I do appreciate the mature response that you gave to my post. And I actually feel the need to apologize because I was in a bad mood and ranting at the time that I made the post. I do not know you and therefore made unfair assumptions about you. For what my knowledge is worth, you could be a very intelligent, down-to-earth, sweet young lady who was caught up in an unfortunately negative work atmosphere. What I should have said originally was that this is the unfortunate truth of the "work world." I have worked in corporate and office environments for six years. I have worked in environments where I thoroughly enjoyed the company of my coworkers and it made it incredibly easy to accomplish my job's tasks. On the other hand, while i was working in a bank, I had a run-in with someone who sounds very familiar to "Judy." (This is why on second thought i realize i should have been more understanding of your post) I remember fighting the internal struggle to maintain my professionalism and stay PC. (politically correct) But eventually she pushed me past the point of no return. And so my solution was to play her game. She wanted a confrontation. She would call me a "bitch" in front of clientele. She would rant and rave and my BCM (banking center manager) was quite aware of the situation and did nothing. And I caught her in the kitchen one afternoon with no one else around. I told her in no uncertain terms that she did not intimidate me... and the only reason that I had not kicked her ass was because I cared about my job and would not risk my professional image for her enjoyment. I, in colloquial terms, ripped her a new asshole. And this solution maintained my professional presence at work, because no one else witnessed this encounter. But it also made her think twice about "bullying" me at work. She realized that while i might smile and speak impeccably and carry myself in the most well-mannered way possible, that if she fucked with me I would not be an easy contender. And she laid off. There will be times, even in your strictest of work environments, where you will have to have these little "chats" from time to time. And it is quite alright. The best part about this is if she even tries to report what you did to her, it's like the boy who cried wolf. Everyone knows that she is a bitch, but they all think that you're extremely polite and well-mannered. They would never believe her account of events. (that's eventually how my antagonist was fired) Good luck in your next job... but just keep this in mind.
