The problem with that is that when Microsoft released the 360 they said that no game would require you to have a hard drive. They sold probably...hundreds of the core units on that promise.

I agree it was stupid, and I agree that you're probably retarded for having a 360 with no HDD. But at this point it's about Microsoft keeping their promise to the people that bought a core unit. Nevermind the fact that keep that promise comes at the price of a potentially lesser gaming experience for the rest of us.

i don't see any difference in MS making a game that required a HD at this point versus them re-releasing the 360 with the hardware and options it should have had to begin with (Elite). Seems like the same thing to me.

Maybe because the customers still have a choice on which system they want to purchase. And one of those choices is the core pack.

Well I mean, they're still going ahead with GT5. GT HD was just GT4 with better textures. But yeah, last I heard GT HD was canceled in favor of them putting all their attention to GT5.

GT HD was concept work using the new abilities of the PS3. They released it as free DLC on PSN shortly after the PS3 was released. They had been working on that was well as GT5, but decided that GT5 was going to be their PS3 title so they shelved HD and just released what was done.

I bought a 360 last weekend so that when IV comes out ill be ready, and I have to say this is the coolest thing since the Playstation came out. Basically it makes PS2 look like SNES.

Quote :
"Chapter IV: Facts, Rumors, and Speculation

Facts:

The time-frame of the game will be set in 2007, and you won’t be able to play co-op with a friend in the Single-Player.

Niko Bellic’s (known as a tough character) home is in Eastern Europe, he would’ve never traveled to Liberty City, if it wasn’t for his cousin Roman. When his life is not working in the home land, Roman (a friendly buffoon) sends him an e-mail from Liberty City saying, “I live this amazing life, it's the American Dream come true. I have two women. I have four hot tubs. I have fifteen sports cars," Houser elaborates." And Bellic believes it. He fled his country to come to Liberty City for a better life and finds out that Roman was lying about his amazing life to hide his own failures.Roman isn’t rich, popular, and he’s actually in a load of trouble; he is $1000.00 in dept.

After an initial load sequence, the game will never load again. Not even during exterior-interior transitions (and vice versa).

This is information released in a May issue of Game Informer, Game Informer played a DEMO version of the game and gave us these insights.

The game has been in development since early 2004
Variations in the terrain cause the walking animation to change. The physics have also improved and character movements are more realistic.
The Xbox 360 version was the version shown to the magazine editors.
Dan Houser of Rockstar Games said that New York City "is an environment we felt had never been done to the level we were envisioning it in a video game. From looking at all of the locations, this was the one that really stood out to us, and really had that impact. It has all of these iconic things that you couldn't put into a game before."
It's a smaller geographical mass than San Andreas, but not an inch of this world is wasted or dedicated to vast stretches of country or desert. It's a tightly packed metropolis that captures the eye with its decades of world-class architecture, sun-blocking towers, and extraordinary walks of life.
The city is brought to life with an amazing level of realism. Sunlight glistens beautifully off of glasswork, illuminates the intricate detailing of century old brick, and even reveals just how realistic an ordinary bag of trash can look. As the sun begins to set, the city takes on a whole different appearance. Buildings that were once eye-popping attractions slowly become ominous obelisks. As any New Yorker will tell you, there's a big difference between New York during the day and New York at night. Liberty City will perfectly capture that quality.
Roman, Niko's cousin, is the only person that he knows in America. He serves as one of his main friends, motivations, and connections at the start of the game. Unlike San Andreas, players won't get a chance to see Bellic in his homeland. You will see his life unfold from the moment he steps into Liberty City. Roman is heavily in debt and a lot of people are after him - he needs Niko's support. They are constantly bickering.
DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is called BOABO (Beneath the Off ramp of the Algonquin Bridge Overpass).
As Bellic walks, you can feel the weight behind each step he makes. Variations in the terrain cause realistic changes in the walking animation. The physics have also improved and character movements are more realistic.
There will be no rollerblades, no unicycles, and probably no jetpacks. Rockstar are giving choice and variety which feels right for the character. However there will be motorbikes
Rockstar consulted crime experts and ex-policemen when making the game, and they learned that being a criminal is a lot harder these days than it was during the 80s and 90s (for example) and they have tried to reflect this in the game. This means you can expect to see a lot of people getting arrested - the police are a heavy presence in Liberty City.
There will be four different angles when you’re driving a car, one will be a first-person view inside the car. There will be three different scenarios for breaking into a car; f you want to hijack a car now, you have to break the window and when it’s parked, you have to put your hotwire skills to the test. When a car is driving near you, you will hear the music and bass coming from the car.

Your phone will now inform you on missions and you can text message, and take pictures with your phone. You will be using an ATM machine to get money, Nikos wardrobe will now be much like Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.

You can now strafe left and right when you pull out a weapon to avoid being shot from other people. Crosshairs will now be implanted in guns. The hand on hand combat has made much improvement, you will be able to climb poles, ladders, etc. You can also enter buildings and throw helpless people off them. The boats have been also improved on controls. R* will also take out the arrows pointing to your objectives to add realism, you may be using your phone as navigation system; it may also be your map.

WARNING: There will be as much sexual-content in the game as San Andreas.

There will be a radio station that will play Eastern Dance Music; Philip Glass will also be adding his music in game soundtrack. There are no plans for other GTA games for the PSP and GTAIV will open the door for new sequels. Central park will also have its own separate part in the GTA.

"*Spoiler Warning*

The DEMO played by Game Informer Magazine Press started out as Niko Bellic standing outside of the taxi depot, which Roman operated in the borough of Broker in converted industrial garage. Roman works at a cluttered desk in a shabby environment. Bellic walks to a brownstone house in Broker, where he pushes the open door and pulls out his pistol – the living room however is not occupied. He then moves onto the kitchen, which he also finds to be empty. He pushes his way through the back door and smashes the window of a red four-door car using his elbow. The broken glass falls onto the street and onto the seat of the car, as Bellic unlocks it from the inside. He hotwires the car and sets off to his next destination. The camera angle behind the car is closer to the vehicle than in previous GTA games, which enables more detail on the car to be seen. After selecting a radio station, Bellic navigates to a section of the BOABO arriving at a dockside. Pigeons can be hears in the sky, and waves can be heard rustling in the water. Bellic then pulls out his cell phone which has the option for Phonebook, Messages, Organizer and Camera on its LCD screen. He selects Phonebook, and he is then presented with another set of options: City Contact, Dock Friends, and Cab Contact. After a brief conversation he informs the receiver to meet him at the docks. Source: Wikipedia.org

*Spoiler Ends Here*

The story will unfold in a number of different ways; Rockstar is giving people more freedom, more choice, and more sense of control over their destiny. In previous GTA games you were like a slave because you had to constantly take orders from people when doing missions. There is still an element of that in Grand Theft Auto 4, but you can also choose how you want to spend your time, for example "I want to hang out with him and her. I want to hang out with this guy because he always has fun things to do." Call him up and maybe you can hang with him. Maybe he'll answer. You have a lot of choice over what you want to do.

Rockstar North is approaching the recruitment of voice actors in a different way. This means that we will probably hear less familiar voices in GTA 4, as R* are looking for voices which suit the attitude of the characters, and are not just looking for big names. A similar approach is being done with the soundtrack - Rockstar are looking for great music which works with the 2007 Liberty City.

Rumors and Speculation:

Many people believed that since Niko Bellic said, "Life is complicated; I killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different." That maybe he may be a terrorist, and you have to go undercover and many people think it will be a good plot line, because of what’s going on right now in the real world.

In Shot #7, you will notice that you don’t see the front of the Statue of Liberty, many people believe the writing on the book may be different than in real life. It is also believed the Statue of Liberty may also be wearing a baseball cap and she may be holding a cup instead of the torch.

jesus christ. Microsoft paid Take2 $50 million to secure exclusive rights to the episodic content for GTA IV.

So the PS3 users don't get it (or is it just delayed rights?) and 360 users get to pay $texas for the episodes (i mean, is 3 GHII songs cost 6 bucks, this will have to be somewhere around $25 each). and all the while, the 360 will continue to hemorrage cash

so Take2 has said that GTA IV will have episodic content released (a la Half-Life 2) after the game has been released. Apparently, Microsoft has paid $50M to Take2 to make the episodes exclusive to the xbox 360 (and off the PS3).

We all know by now, MS likes to rape and pillage wallets for episodic content (like paying $100 bucks to get all the GH 1 songs via micro-payments), and now thay have to recover $50M in investment to break-even.

They're obviously banking on the fact they think people will buy the 360 for GTA IV instead of the PS3. Basically it's a $50M play to capture more of a user base away from sony.

Too bad they can't put the $50M into making a console that doesn't break all the time.

Yea it sucks, but it isn't all Microsoft's fault about the GH1 songs.

The contracts were only for one game, so it makes sense that there is going to be more money involved bringing those games to GH2.

Imagine how much more they would have been if it was original artist recordings.

yea, but San Andreas was just an expansion pack.

With all this talk of "revolutionized" animation, detail, gameplay, etc... it's kinda worrisome that they don't have anything to show other than cut scenes. And the game ships in 100 days...

one of the reviews i posted part of says Game Informer magazine played a demo and wrote about it in their May issue...I wouldn't be too worried about them getting this done on time

I think they just want to keep the suspense/mystery built up so you'll really really really want to see/play/buy it

i hope that they did this just to give Sony a big FU since they had exclusive rights to the game for so long and as mentioned steal some fan base from sony. I can almost hear the execs now. "If we charge $50 for the extra content....it will be like everyone is buying the game twice MUHAHAHAHA!!!"

^ yeah. Too bad its on the 360 though because now they have to slim down the game to fit on a DVD instead of it being on a Blu-ray disc. I can see this becoming an issue in the future.

yeah i just don't see how microsoft dropped the ball on this one......the technology was rather new but still there to use. I can't see how they didn't know PS3 was going blu-ray and not tried to compete in that aspect. Or they were just trying to keep the price down

Did you see this comment by a Rockstar spokesmen?

When asked (probably for the thousandth time about what console release they should get)

"They're identical games. We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want. But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."

Here's a little off topic info related to Rockstar.

Quote :
"PlayStation 3 to get a secret Rockstar game
Sony says it has signed a deal with Rockstar -- the creator of, most famously, the "Grand Theft Auto" series -- to get an upcoming game exclusively on the PlayStation 3. But it won't say which game.

We already know it won't be "Grand Theft Auto IV"; both the PS3 and Microsoft's XBox 360 will get that game, though Microsoft purchased exclusive rights for add-on content. On the PlayStation blog, Sony exec Michael Shorrock says the new exclusive also isn't "L.A. Noire," the beautiful black-and-white gumshoe game that will come out for PS3 next year. Instead, the new title is "something all new," Shorrock says, brought about by Rockstar's desire to "make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc." (Cell is the chip that the PS3 runs on.)

So look there. First there's news of Blu-ray porn, and now Sony has two Rockstar exclusives. Is the PS3 getting its game on?
