I don't think Sharpton is ignoring the problems with hip-hop culture. In fact, most black leaders and blacks in general speak negatively of those types of things, but it's the media and media companies that promote it (because it makes money). Not disproportionately so, but you have to keep in mind that a majority of the record sales of that type of music is still to white patrons.

In any case, black music isn't keeping blacks down, it's a product of their situation. It's the effect, not the cause.

The first thing you have to realize is that hip-hop wasn't always as commercial and negative as it is nowadays, there's a long, specific history that evolved it to this point, that mostly has to do with $$$. Secondly, the dynamics of how music relates to society are very complex, and it's not as simple as "black music is bad."

From what i've read elsewhere, Imus HAS been saying borderline racist stuff for a while, he's suppose to be a shock jock.

I'm not really trying to defend Sharpton, but I don't think he deserves to be especially hated, like some people in this thread are doing. You can point to many other celebrities, the U2 guy, John Travolta, the Dixie Chicks, and George Clooney, who have jumped on retard band wagons before, sharpton is not too much different. His main problem is that he is often over zealous, but compared to the overly stiff stature of most of our politicians, this is sometimes refreshing.
