I finally got my copy paid off. I participated in the Madden tourney at the Gamestop in Roanoke Rapids, and I lost in the first round by three points. I was up 14-10 late in the fourth, and the other guy drove on me and scored a TD with about four seconds left. He ended up winning the tournament by a lot. I think he was a PS2 player, but I played him on the 360. Maybe that's why the first game was so close.

Anyway, I'm suprised that there isn't as much buzz on this thread similar to the NCAA Football thread. I would think there would be a lot of Madden players out there, and there probably are a lot of people. Who's getting their copy of Madden this week?

i'm still debatin whether i want it. i had 07 for the ps2, then traded it in when i got the wii...i got 07 for the wii and then traded it in a month ago before its value depreciated to about 50 cents. i usually get a new copy of madden every other year, if not every 3 years, just cause from year to year, the improvements are negligible, but seeing as i dont actually have a copy of madden from any previous years anymore, i might end up breakin down and gettin it.

all the reviews for this game so far have been stellar

i'ma try to hold out on madden though so i can get my $60 out of ncaa, still need to get some trophies, achievements and draft classes

yeah I think I'll take the risk and get it this year. Last year it was a piece of shit and I sold it. Hopefully it will play a lot better and it will actually be fun this year.

Like I said earlier the weapons thing makes me feel a little uncomfortable. Pretty shitty that only the spectacular catching weapons can make diving catches. I've seen plenty of scrubs make these in the preseason...

Anybody have thoughts on this?

thats not how the weapons work, they just work better for those weapon players, ie chad johnson is more likely to lay out and tiptoe the line and made a catch or outjump a db and make a one handed catch before a non weapon

or if you have alge crumpler (possession weapon) and hold catch button, he could take a big hit and hold on to the ball, all the weapons have a counter weapon, its like rock paper scissors

big hitter will lay the fuck out of a spectacular catcher
speed wr could outrun a route jammer, but not a lockdown db
brickwall lb could lay out a speedy rb but a stiff arm rb could get by

I'm trying to practice 07 with an obscure offense/playbook.. the run-heavy has the jumbo T, which is a little more than a novelty but still pretty killer when you want some blocks with a strong run

Also, talking about the weapons, it really does all sound silly. You said that its easier for the gerat catching weapons to do it, but you press the button to do it. Looks like you can only press the button for those that have the weapons. I just think that's lame.

Basically, anyone that plays with the Chargers will be almost unstoppable, but I guess that's just like the last couple of Maddens...

And I'm not buying this rock paper scissors bullshit. What if I'm playing as the Giants? That means that anyone with a great catching WR will run wild all over me. Horse shit.

this review seems pretty nice. Looks like the game is going to be pretty fun, but the Turnovers, etc is going to be ridiculous like every year. Hopefully they will have the sliders in there so we can tweak it the way we want.

i mean its ridiculous to believe that only a spec. catch receiver could make a jumping/diving catch, they'll be more likely to complete them and more than likely to trigger the spec. catch animation, but they'll still do em

if you have ncaa 08, take a players spec catch rating down and run practice with em. the animation triggers alot less, and when it does trigger they'll more often than not bobble it, but they'll still able to complete the catches, just not as much

hence, making those that can stand out as spectacular catchers

IGN gave Madden 08 an 8.7. They pretty much said that it's just as good as 2005 was. The main cons were special teams, the radio announcer, and some of the presentation aspects. Too many in-game ads.

I honestly LIKE the slower framerate better. People move too fast at 60 fps...it looks like they are on ice skates.

just played it for ps3. pretty damn good. looks fine at 30 fps. i havnt had any problems

was the fins, playing the skins....was tied at 0-0 at halftime when i had to turn it off and go to work

so after playing 1 game, down 24-17 with 1:48 to go, polamalu picks off quinn to take it back for a 78yd. TD. All tied up 24-24, 3 and out for browns and roethlisberger leads the team down the field for a jeff reed game winning 43yd. field goal...27-24

hmm, reading the manual. So you can't do regular jukes anymore? Says the left shoulder buttons are for pitches and fake pitches. Interesting. SO the only jukes are the "big jukes" with the right stick. How is this working for you guys?

just played my debut game on all pro. dolphins vs. redskins. Randel El is hard to stop...but I won 13-7.

I only saw one turnover....a fumble i ran back for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter after sacking the QB.

I picked it up for the Wii played a small amount of franchise and superstar modes. I think it looks better then last years, they changed up alot of controls so I am still trying to get used to them. Everyone is busy today so i haven't had a chance to try out the local multiplayer stuff. Got online and tried to play one game but connection was dropped, which i think is a problem on my end with our router.

if you just have a ps3 thats cool, you're used to it, but once you touch 60 frames a second, you really can't play it any other way, its not just a gimmick or some cool tagline to put on the box, it makes a huge difference in gameplay.

i like it better for ps3. and i was wrong...they do have field degredation. I guess they just dont have puddles at Jets stadium for some reason.

it looks fine for the PS3. I played a couple games last night and enjoyed it. There are still some issues, but I'm sure its the same with both consoles. Either way, the game is 10x better than last year. I'm pumped to play it some more and try to figure out the weapons thing and all that.

Graphics are very good (for a Madden game) and the player models look a lot more realistic, which is nice. The turnovers didn't really seem too ridiculous, but I think more than usual. 3 fumbles in 2 games. Interceptions weren't too bad, seemed on par with the other Maddens. The DB AI seems smarter.

for me the turnovers have been a little too ridiculous...I had like 5 interceptions (just me not computer) and about 3 or 4 fumbles...it wasn't raining or snowing...but minter is amazing for the panthers!

wow...this game is getting less than stellar reviews on all 3 consoles, but especially the Playstation versions.

IGN gave the PS2 version a 7.9 and said that in no way is it better than 2007, in fact, it is much worse.
