You, sir, are an excellent troll. I salute you. You have managed to meld infuriating nonsense with astounding ignorance of the world at large in a manner that seems pathetic enough to be believable. However, you have overplayed your hand. No one is actually stupid enough to believe that one of the major travel destinations in the world could possibly have less entertainment options than Myrtle Beach. Maybe if you had stuck with comparing Myrtle to cities on the east coast, you would have gotten away with your troll a bit longer.6/7/2007 2:34:42 AM |

Those places are exotic. People go to Hawaii for its geography, not its entertainment. Just like people go to vegas for its entertainment, not its geography.
Anybody who lives in a tourist area is naturally going to want to get away from the tourists. Do you think New Yorkers hang out in times square every weekend?
Quote : | "want to get drunk and forget what happens" |
Actually Myrtle is one of the worst places to be drunk with all the laws and strict biker pd. And why would you drive extra far to go somewhere with the intention of forgetting the entire thing. You know that doesn't add up.

Not only was that the high school thing to do but at least during high school spring break it is April. Myrtle Beach in early march would be a coin flip. I went to Charleston one year and there was a few days of mid 70's but there was also one day when it was struggling in the high 50's and almost freezing at night.

That shit says "world's best beaches" not "World's longest concrete block"
Myrtle Beach has the most boring coastline of any beach I've been to. There's absolutely nothing redeeming about a long stretch of sand and Ocean flanked by the worst 70's miami art deco architecture known to mankind. Furthermore, anyone thats traveled to ANY, and I mean ANY global seven star, or hell, five star, resort will not find anything impressive or attractive in anything offered at myrtle. In fact, that place is downright trailer trash and most of us here realize it.

Your idea of entertainment is barely entertainment by definition but i'll let you have it and just say it is a very primitive form of entertainment. Someone who quotes Emerson is going to have a very wierd view on places to go because you hate anything thats civilized. Emerson and thoreau were a transcendentalists and his type are rare. Most people do not wish to trade everything and go live primitive out in the middle of nature. Obviously, this type of person is going to have different opinions of fun/

I don't work for anybody i'm just not going to sit here and watch you guys bash myrtle beach and a yahoo top ten list just because you don't like civilization and would prefer the entire world be woodland. Most of the worlds population lives in an urban area now.
The resorts in desolate areas have to be better for the resort to survive because they have to provide entertainment for the people staying there since they aren't going to find much in the area in the way of dining or entertainment. All inclusive resorts are all inclusive for a reason.
And Capital blvd isn't the best area to live in. ~Glenwood probably is or somewhere in cary. Bethel Hill sure isn't

Poetrickster (got people mixed up), We're all not arguing logically.
First of all it's defin an ad, there's no doubt about that.
Second of all, you're trying to argue what Myrtle beach does have, and what it is. There's no doubt myrtle beach makes money and attracts people, none of us are arguing that point.
The point we ARE arguing is the type of people. The ONLY type of people who would actually want to go to Myrtle beach are the type of people who've ONLY been to nc/sc beaches, and people who just don't f***ing get out.
I agree Myrtle beach makes money and is a good example of economics, and supply and demand. Using your same logic you could say Americans are the fattest people in the world, and that's because we go to McDonalds. Just because McDonalds makes money doesn't mean it's right, or attractive, or culture, or anything other than "fast food garbage (which can be good sometimes, i prefer cookout or wendys)".
So all the owners of all the shit holes at Myrtle beach are making a killing because they can make money off the lower income, stupid, and untraveled people in NC/SC (and the golfers from up north).
Oh and regard to Transcendentalism, it was the backing of the Unitarian Universalist religion, and the reason Harvard started. (Harvard was orginally started as a divinity school for Unitarian Transcendentalists.) Plus if you read Walden it gets into Vedic stuff, which is cool.

Oh and "best" doesn't always mean most profitable or most popular. Then you could say what is always the most popular is always the best, and that logic doesn't hold.

Thats funny because if you look at the plates on all the minivans filled with families they read things like NEW YORK PENNSYLVANIA OHIO MICHIGAN and places up north that generally are higher income, better educated and they are GETTING OUT by driving a hell of a long way just to get there so throw the convienence nc/sc stupid people thing out the window. The people from nc/sc and johsnon county are the ones going to holden beach.
I've noticed that a good number of users on this site have something against American culture. Any popular music, movie, form of entertainment or destination.
And because sc has one golf ad on yahoo you think yahoo has gone out of its way and risked its credibility to make a top 10 ranking just for sc and oh by the way only put ONE sc beach (which allegedly isn't even a top 20 beach in sc ) in the entire ranking?? gtfo with THAT bullshit.
And even though it may not be true its not like its far fetched. It is well known that the carolinas have some of the best coastline in the world. Myrtle has some of the most beach development in the world and easily the most in this stretch of beautiful carolina coastline so it already has a major legup on most beaches. Tropical places are just as or more beautiful but they gain legs up because they don't have seasons and people can escape during any time of the year and not because there is stuff to there. Keep in mind Orlando is BY FAR the #1 tourist destination in the world because of development alone.

Well you're right people from New England DO come down to myrtle beach, but they're the "trash" of the north (There's trashy low income stupid people everywhere)(not making a correlation between trashy stupid and low income, just saying these people are all three). Out of the hundreds of people i know in New England, not one of them would even come to Myrtle beach. And statistically i think it's still under 20 percent who actually come from the north (and that doesn't include current residents).
And yes the outter banks of North Carolina and South Carolina ARE some of the best coastlines in the US, but once you hit anywhere near myrtle beach, it very quickly goes to the WORST beaches in the world. Myrtle beach doesn't preserve anything, it's trash and the only thing natural they haven't destroyed is the water. Once they figure out how to do that, they'll market the water to, and charge you to swim.
Wait i found something interesting, Myrtle beach has the record for the world's tallest sand castle! Finally we know why it's number 1!
And i feel bad for Poetrickster now. No one is on his side, and if he truely likes Myrtle beach then we can't change his opinion on that.

I've been to LA, San Fran, and San Diego quite a few times, and the average income is still less than 100 grand. Google "average LA income, and it'll show you that".

HAHAHA, that site says the average sallery is 53 grand a year. I guess you forgot to take off a 0.
Correction, most people who go to Myrtle beach are from NC/SC, i think it's less than half that come from out of state. I'm trying to find the link i had last time i was picking at Myrtle beach. And yes, people in California DO have a higher average income partly because the cost of living is insane over there. And yes statistically California has a higher level of education than NC.
