My gf and I are talking about Thailand for our honeymoon. We both rock climb and she's Lao-American and never been to S. East Asia so to me Thailand is probably the best choice.

Thailand was awesome when I went. But don't waste time in the urban areas like Bangkok or Phuket. Actually don't waste time in Phuket at all. Bangkok is worth seeing for a few short days. The countryside of Thailand is where it's at.

I have a friend working in Kenya right now and she said it's still pretty bad there. They're on constant alert that they could be evac'ed at any moment depending on how the political climate shifts.

^ah...i see. My friends (kenyan) wife must disagree to some degree then. of course maybe it is a different perspective for her than someone just working there. thanks for the info!

now the problem is figuring out where else to hang, i mean, we can do:

super authentic place - junk - luxury place

or something or just: junk - luxury place

or even: junk - authentic - luxury?

http://www.kohsamui.com/booking/

big big list, and this is just one island.... (the junk is on this list though I'm sure there are others...)

looking to maximize bang for buck, even though there are going to be a substantial amount of bucks.....

airfare might already be taken care of....

We're not getting married for 2 years, but we have alredy made up our minds on where we want to go for a honeymoon. I want to take 2 weeks, and spend 1 week checking out the Oregon coast, Washington State, Yellowstone, Glacier and whatever else we may get to see. Then go to Alaska for a week and check out Katmai and Denali. We're wanting to do a fall wedding, but may have to do it earlier so we can make it to the parks while everything is still active and not frozen over.

i suppose it would depend on how early in the fall you pick.

Yeah, it would. I know someone who got married the first weekend in October, and it was still really hot. I just don't want sweaty groomsmen and bridesmaids worrying about sweat on their dresses.

You need way, way, way more than just a week for this.

Two weeks wouldn't be enough. You should allow a week each just for glacier and yellowstone.

Yeah, I think we'd have to leave Yellowstone and Glacier out, or just do the two and leave out Oregon. I just spent 4 days at Yellowstone and 3 days at Glacier last summer, so I could live with skipping those. 3 days at Glacier was plenty since the Going to the Sun Road was closed with 10 feet of snow still on the top in mid June.

But Alaska is a definite! We could do 2 weeks in Alaska, with 1 week at Katmai and 1 week at Denali... Decisions decisions!!

bttt I'm now looking at being part of a group tour through most of southeast asia, thailand and cambodia mostly, want to see Angkor Wat the most as well as Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Bagan Temples & Pagodas and Shwedagon Stupa would be nice but i'm hesitant to venture into Burma (what they call myamar) right now... we'd like a tour with a fair amount of free time each day or every few days....

not big on visiting much of vietnam or laos (siagon would be ok) would rather spend most of my time in the other 2 countries though...

i'd like it to be at least 2 weeks with a possible few days down at a resort in thailand after the adventure part....

anyone have any ideas or inside lines on these sort of things? i've been looking online for the last few days but i haven't been able to find anything substatially like what I'm looking for (found one but it's oddly all booked up)

Between july 19/20 and august 22, prefferably ending before august 18...

My Fiance and I are going to Secrets Maroma in Maroma Beach, Mexico...about 20 miles south of Cancun. Apparently it was rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world by Travel Channel. It is an all-inclusive resort that caters to couples/honeymooners. 18+ to go. I'm stoked to go in June

^^^^ Yeah the weather is pretty hot and miserable there in the summer. Winter is the best season to visit.

That said, I recommend checking out Intrepid. They have a lot of tours that are very similar to what you're talking about. I also really recommend in general using any sort of tour service in Cambodia that fits your personal style. There were a couple of experiences I had there that made me glad I had a local guide there to help out.

My wife and I went to Costa Rica

We stayed here...

http://www.vrbo.com/97733

it was amazing and only $300 for the week!!! definitely and adventure far from the crowds. the villa is in the Orosi Valley, kind of central Costa Rica. we drove to the pacific cost one day and stayed on the coast for a night. other then that our villa was our home base and we just went exploring and hiking every day.

this is the view you wake up to in the morning

^ I have friends who also did that and said it was amazing!!

We're not going to have much money for the honeymoon so I'm not sure what we'll do. We've tossed around NYC or taking a road trip, etc. My grandmother has a nice cabin in the mountains she said we could use if we want. We even talked about going to Iceland since it's cheap as hell to go there since their economy crashed

^^Wow, that looks amazing. I think my husband and I are definitely going to have to spend some time there after I take the Bar exam next year.
