i think you ought to give it a new, complete listen.

I'd say it's 20x more dynamic than Alaska. the compositions on this one blow me away, seriously.

BTW...i REALLY want to go to Greensboro (Green St. is fucking awesome), but I live oohhh, 4.5 hours away.

yea the 2nd and 3rd song and first half of the 4th sound a decent bit like alaska then it changes completely at that point and alaska is clearly an afterthought musically at that point

^^I just got a new car, and within 2 months of that, lost my full-time job. I am now just bartending 3-4 nights a week. So, I'm not exactly in the market for a full-blown car stereo system (I don't half-ass car audio).

^omg, really? the cover album was kinda boring to me, save for 3-4 tracks. "Colors" has me driving past my house just to further indulge in the sonic euphoria.

yea ive said it in the other threads too but tracks 4-8 really blow 1-3 out of the water. the harmonies on those last tracks are ridiculously well crafted from a guitar standpoint. my favorite block of music on the cd would have to be the last half(~5mins) of sun of nothing through ants of the sky into the beginning of prequel to the sequel (~2mins or so). its so hard to pick tracks the way the album is recorded but that stretch of music (about 21mins) is flawless

^eek that sucks

hahahahha same here. same exact block of music for me, too. Every time I listen, I wonder how the hell they produce, reproduce such obtuse changes in music. I'm actually angry that I won't be able to see them on this tour.

yea the first thing im asking blake is:

1) did you write the entire CD back to back trackwise
or
2) write the CD, then go back and alter song keys and transitions to make the album essentially a continuous piece of music.

i can just imagine recording this thing from a drum standpoint, where its extremely hard to punch in if you mess up as opposed to other instruments being able to pick up where they left off more often.

"you know whats interesting about the artwork. when alaska came out i remember tommy answering a question about whether he liked Alaska or not and he basically said of course he liked it but "we havent written our 'dark side of the moon yet' " pretty much word for word on that last part.

i wonder if the cover/name is referring to that. maybe im reading too much into it but after remembering tommy saying exactly that and [fast forward] also knowing how extremely excited he was about this album..."

like i said i could be reading too much into it. but he stated that exactly, i hear some pink floyd influence, and the cover is one of those 'similar but not' situations...

well, you have colors and a prism...couple that with his quote, and you're on to something valid, I think.

DSoTM is only 8 tracks, too, right? Or, maybe 9. Can't remember.

back in high school a friend and I were going to attempt it but somehow we got sidetracked and never did it. I would like to at some point though. There used to a be a torrent available where they were combined so I don't know why I never downloaded it.

Do I hear trumpets at the end of Ants of the Sky?!? Haha, and the pink floyd / wiz of oz shit actually does sync up and is pretty creepy, although I don't know if it was done intentionally.

Haha, the first time I tried to do the Oz thing back in high school, me and some guys actually listened to the wrong Pink Floyd album (The Wall). So we're listening, listening, going "man this sucks," and eventually quit watching. We figured it out and got it right the next week. Moral of the story: high school kids are smart.

very interested to see how they pull this album off live..or how they even play it live considering 1 or 2 songs JUST from this album could take up 30 mins. but mainly they are usually one of THE tightest bands i've ever seen live, replicating everything nearly identically to their album, and this album is going to present a lot of challenges in that regard i think

^^I've been wondering the same exact thing every day. Seems like they'd play the opening 2 tracks first, and they could in no way neglect 4-6 in its entirety. Shit, that's like 40 mins right there. And, of course, they'd have to at least play Mordecai, probably a couple off Alaska, and at least one off S/T. Oh hell, why don't they just play a 2 hr set? lol.

also for anyone who will have a chance to go to a show anytime near when colors is coming out, buy the CD/merch AT the show if possible. Unfortunately, even for an established band like BTBAM they rarely see a penny of any merchandise bought through Victory or other online sites(mainly due to Victory sucking as a label in that area). IE during the RECORDING of 'colors' they saw their FIRST royalty check from alaska which was $7

But everything at the show theyre taking in the money from. Just a friendly reminder/heads up

Orange for the first color:

http://www.victoryrecords.com/albumtrailers/colors/orange/

There is a video interpretation, still art interpretation, and then the band's personal/real meaning(which follows):

Quote :
"Foam Born: the idea of being born again in many different forms (gas, liquids, and solids).

This song is about growing old and realizing the most important things in your life. Even though the world gives you many ups and downs, you have to keep waiting to find what truly makes you happy. I use some imagery such as waves pushing me to an isolated island where it’s just me and my thoughts (the environment I tried to mentally be in when writing this record).

This song also speaks of the horrible writers block I get every time we write a new record… the older I get, the happier and more peaceful I seem to be (the idea I spoke about before) … and the more peaceful I become the harder it is for me to write about negative aspects of life (something I’ve always written about in the past).

The end of this song is basically saying thanks to all of those who enjoy the music and lyrics we create with each record. A lot of bands take their lives for granted and forget that they are here because of their fans. Thank you."

PS this just in case people were too lazy to check the link out
