"She's only 14 -- she'll be 15 next month; she's just starting to live. And the sad thing is who killed her -- a cop. Cops are supposed to always protect you, I thought, and it's one who took my daughter and how many other people's lives." It was the high school's homecoming weekend. Friends of the victims said Peterson also worked part time as a Crandon police officer. Residents near the scene of the shooting told the Associated Press it was hard to accept that a police officer was the shooter. "The first statement we said to each other was, 'How did he get through the system?' " David Franz told the AP. "How do they know somebody's background, especially that young? It is disturbing, to say the least." The town's schools were closed Monday, with grief counselors available to students, said Superintendent Richard Peters. "This was the kind of scenario where every small town in the USA says, 'This could never happen here,' " Peters said. Crandon, a town of about 2,000 people, is 220 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Crandon Mayor Gary Bradley said the town will work together to get over the tragedy. "There's a lot of people weeping and gnashing their teeth and the emotions are very raw right now," Bradley said. "But we'll rebuild brick by brick." If they paid police officers alot more money (like they should) they would have a better crop of people to pick from when choosing who is going to be upholding the law. Deputy Fires Gun in Courthouse Restroom

FARGO, N.D. — A Cass County Sheriff's deputy who accidentally fired his handgun in a courthouse restroom has been suspended for eight days without pay. Authorities said Dean Wawers, 57, also will receive a written reprimand in personnel file.

No one was hurt when the gun belonging Wawers discharged during lunch hour on January 10.

Fargo police said an investigation determined that his weapon was discharged accidentally.

Authorities said he had hung the gun by its trigger guard, and the gun caught on the hook and discharged into the ceiling when he went to retrieve it.

So far this year I'm batting 1000% on getting stopped when I drive into Virginia. So last Sunday, while driving to Martinsville once again I'm all alone on the highway, and boom cop is hiding between hills. 68 in a 55 is what he tells me, I inform him I thought it was a 65 zone.(double lane highway, huge median, no houses) Cop gives me a warning, I guess there's atleast 1 VA state police officer that isn't a Emporia Speed police asshat.

I've tried to figure out what I did to get off, I've never gotten off. Does parking you car well off the road help? rolling back and front window down, ignition off. I'm confused Maybe it was the fact that when I passed him I never slowed down, so yea I really didn't know I was speeding.

There are stupid cops just like there are stupid people in any job. Difference is that their screw ups are likely to be on tape somewhere and get a lot more publicity. I don't condone the actions of most of the cops in this thread, however acting like all cops are jerks because of the actions of a few is really juvenile.
