1. Turn cold water on. 2. Put strainer under faucet. 3. Slice and peel under water, letting the arils fall into the strainer. 4. Pour contents of strainer into bowl and eat.
Not that hard and can be done really quickly once you get a method to it. 11/19/2007 7:53:43 PM |

^^ a pomagranate pie seems nearly impossable because of the seeds. All they are are liquid and seed really. And a a liquid pie doesn't sound very appealing

^^^ I got some Sarnac Pomegranate Wheat beer a few weeks ago. I was pretty good, but didn't have a very strong pom flavor at all. I also got some pomegranate schnapps, which I haven't tasted by itself, but it also seems to be sweeter than I'd like it to be. 11/20/2007 10:34:43 AM |

we have a few pomegranate trees in our backyard and made some juice the other day. it took around 45 minutes to make including getting all the little seeds out, squishing them in a bowl, adding some water and sugar, and then boiling it. after an hour or so in the fridge, it was pretty good. the seed juice is awesome by itself too. 11/21/2007 3:05:17 AM |

based on that, here is a correction for you:

AND WhyTF WOULD YOU BOIL IT????
And adding sugar?
That's just great... take a healthy product, and make it much much less healthier. You don't deserve those trees.11/21/2007 4:45:07 AM |

1 - JUICE is not supposed to contain added sugar or water. Once you add those, you have a DRINK.
2 - Yes, commercial juices are pasteurized, so they have been heated. But if you are making juice at home, why the hell would you boil it? Just frikkin juice the damn fruit and drink it.
3 - I drink perhaps a liter of juice of every 10-14 days. I try to eat as much fresh fruit as possible.11/21/2007 4:25:18 PM |

I bought one at Food Lion the other day for 99 cents
never had one before, wish I had read this thread before attempting to eat. My method was to cut it in half, then squish it until the seeds mostly popped out. I still have the other half left, so I will try to be more responsible this time 11/21/2007 4:28:51 PM |

we really didn't know what we were doing... didn't know if they were ripe, didn't know what, if anything we needed to do to make juice so we just made shit up as we went. we boiled it to make sure the sugar, water, and pomegranate juice all mixed well and then stuck it the fridge till it was cold. next time i plan on just squeezing it and drinking the juice straight up... just had to get some trial and error out of the way. what's a good way to tell if they're ripe? I keep picking ones that i think will be ripe only to find that they are terrible. 11/23/2007 7:05:09 PM |

Pomegranates at the Kroger on highway 70 in Garner (POM brand) -- 10 for $10, IF you have their Kroger savings card thingy. My girlfriend and I just picked up 30.
According to POM you can freeze the arils for up to a year in ziploc bags. Tonight is going to be a pomegranate peeling marathon... I'll probably go buy another 20-30 tomorrow. 12/2/2007 7:06:35 PM |

I couldn't eat all the seeds in one sitting, so I ate half and put the rest in a bowl for storing in the fridge. I really like the juice part and am really turned off by the seeds part. Soooo I guess I'm kinda stuck, unless I just chew on the seeds for a little while and get all the juice out and then spit the rest of it all out, lol. 12/3/2007 12:07:02 AM |

^ If you think that's bad, then never, ever try acai juice. It has a ton of antioxidants, so I bought some one time. The taste wasn't horrible, but it smelled like feet to the point that I couldn't even open the container. 12/3/2007 9:42:48 AM |

Trader Joes has a lot of fruit items that smell like feet - I got some dried Lychees and they were comically bad smelling. Dried apples were not as bad but still not pleasant. I guess all natural does have its downfall in some areas 12/3/2007 10:05:52 AM |
