Downs is a chromosomal abnormalty; by the numbers the overwhelming majority of Downs babies are born to mothers 25 and under. although age of the mother over 40 does increase the % chance of having a Downs baby.

actually, it's quite meaningful: if 90% of all Downs babies are to mothers of normal childbearing age, then the social problem is not due to older mothers.

women over 35 should just be aware of the increased risk and get an amniotic screen. then they can abort the clump of tissue before it grows into a retard.
