man, i want another bike in a bad way.

it'll be game on for sure when i get back from iraq. i have a hard time justifying getting one before then (kinda cold and rainy here in WA, and the traffic enforcement is absolutely INSANE...and I don't know if I'll have room in the truck for it on the move to NC...and then I don't want to pay summertime prices on one just to keep it for 2-3 months before I leave, and I don't want it to sit for 6 months while I'm gone).

I figured I'd share what my new ride looks like.

And I'd rather stick to parking lots and side streets than do something silly like get out into major traffic unprepared.

I'd be down for riding in a week or so once I get everything straight with my bike.

That picture made me think of it, but anyone seen the GS with the straight pipe that just comes out at an angle on the side of the bike? I see it around campus quite a bit... Looks cool IMO, and sounds like a very pissed off lawnmower.

If I can get a hold of a welder this summer the Ninja might get similar treatment...

Yep, seen it up close. Definitely a GS500. It'd be pretty hard to mistake a GS for gixxer too. And I'm pretty sure the exhaust is straight piped and home made, really don't think it's anything store bought.

^If thats the stock exhaust on the GS, they may have just cut the midpipe just past the foot peg... Its flat black like that... Wish mine would be that easy to do.

Hadn't really thought about the back pressure thing... How do the cruisers get away with straight pipes? Or do they just not give a shit that they lose that hp?

gah, that thing was OBNOXIOUS. i thought my nighthawk was loud after the mufflers fell off on the beltline.

i remember sitting on the porch at east village a number of times when he'd ride by, and i swear you could hear it from the gorman intersection all the way back through dan allen or down by the library. cagers definitely took notice though, with him and Igor up front when we'd ride people really kept their distance. loud pipes save lives!

not only that but his pipe is the perfect diameter to fix some 40's into. Funny how far you can launch glass bottles from a motorcycle exhaust.

I'm thinking about getting another bike. Gas prices are nuts. And there's a nice KTM 2-stroker, street tagged, for sale right up the road. I'll have to put weights on the forks to keep the wheel down.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcy/709804064.html

dirt cheap price on this local FZR if all it really needs is a new windscreen. if that's the case and it's still for sale by this weekend, it'll be coming home with me.

i don't wanna buy an expensive bike only to leave for iraq for 6 months this fall, but for this price, i'm in. it'll give me a chance to sharpen my riding skills back up before getting back on a more powerful bike.

2003 ZX6R. he says it was raced for one season by the previous owner, plus 3 races and 3 track days by him in the 2-3 years he's owned it.

odo reads 6k...he says prob between 6-10k miles.

lowsided twice.

has front and rear stands to go with it

clean title

also has:

Quote :
"CASE COVERS
FULL TITANIUM HINDLE PIPE
FRONT BRAIDED LINES
SCOTTS STEERING DAMPENER
VORTEX GASCAP
POWER COMMANDER lll
GP SUSPENSION "

on one hand, i'm leery of buying bikes that've been down, and also bikes that've been raced. on the other hand, I plan on tracking it myself, and it's a lot of bike for the money.

He's asking $3800...already volunteered to come down to $3500. I can't imagine he'll let it go for much less than that, but I can tell he's getting frustrated by the signal to noise ratio on craigslist.

what's everyone's opinion on those bikes, especially the 636 Kaw?

I haven't kept my finger on the pulse of motorcycle prices so much lately, and like i said, i am a little leery of buying a bike that's been raced and laid down twice, even though it's probably just fine.

they are good solid ballsy bikes.. i like the 03-04 but if you do lots of hard wheelies and lots of endo's plan on upgrading to newer front forks or they might snap.

that seems like a good deal on that bike.. and i would get it if i had the $

god insurance companies are dumb... cc is all that matters... from 47-> 120ish horsepower but CC is all that matters

anyone ridden an '03-04 Triumph Daytona 600?

i just offered a dude $3700 for one (super lowball price, but he's already asking a really low price and says he needs the money).

got a response...says he has someone looking at it tomorrow afternoon. he didn't balk at the $3700, though, so my guess is it's mine this weekend if it doesn't sell tomorrow.

yep, as long as i can break even or hopefully make a few hundred bucks on it, i'm happy. even if i keep it for a full year, i don't think i'd lose money at that buying price.

and yeah, it's MORE than enough bike to keep me busy until I get my skills back up.

[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 1:40 AM. Reason : might suck to find parts for if i wreck it, though]

I would have been but it still isn't ready because the dealer's service center is swamped right now and for whatever reason they messed with my brake system and it's not bled yet or something. I will be riding next weekend though come hell or high water. I would certainly hope my bike will be ready by Tuesday afternoon. I asked them to make sure it would be.

Yeah I didn't believe it. Honestly I think it has to do with paperwork. (Like, as in they didn't do it or didn't feel like doing it today). I don't like liars btw. It presents a major dilemma because I already bought the bike. It should be ready and it isn't.

There's always some bullshit you know. It fucking pisses me off dude.

So you bought the bike new at the dealer and it isn't ready for you to take home? WTF? I hope thats not the case. If it is, tell me who the dealer is so I can never go there...

Well it looks like I will be getting it tomorrow. It's a long story, it's not entirely their fault but I still don't like it. Poor communication on my part was part of the issue but it appears that they will be straightening it out tomorrow AM and I should be ready to go then. I'll keep you posted.
