I just bought a humidor and some tinderbox tobacco as well. Gonna fire up the pipe tonight.
I'm a total n00b to both cigars and pipes, but I enjoy a nice cigar every now and then. 12/16/2009 5:25:37 PM |

I had one until I sat on it while camping. Great relaxing pipe and has a real cool smoke, which is good when you're just getting started.
I'm also becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Perdomo cigars. I haven't had a bad one yet and they're exceptionally reasonably priced for the quality.

The one thing that beats all (well almost all) is enjoying a nice cigar while standing Officer of the Deck on a surfaced submarine at night in calm seas.
I've got a "travel" humidor, and I'm looking for a table-top at home humidor and was wondering what you guys recommended in terms of brand and websites.
Thanks. 12/28/2009 6:22:02 PM |

I sail a lot, and love nothing more than smoking the pipe while doing so.
That said, ^ your situation takes top shelf.

just had my first don pepin el rey de los habanos, and it really rivaled the cubans i had a while back. incredibly smooth, without the wretched aftertaste. pricey at $8 a stick, but highly recommended 1/1/2010 10:54:12 PM |

came to my folks' house in FL because my grandma died this week, so I thought I would hit up some cigar stores...found a decent one and got a 20-ct humidor with 5 cigars and punch/butane torch lighter, 10 cigars, and one cigar box for $50... 1/8/2010 10:06:40 PM |

I'm calling today, that is ridiculous but I fully expect it to pass. Congress needs the money and pipe smokers simply aren't a big enough constituency. 2/1/2010 1:31:40 PM |

Anybody have any experience seasoning humidors? I'm guessing so since most of you seem to have your own. Any tips?
And how do you know if your hygrometer is calibrated correctly?

Yeah, it takes a while to seep in there. If you're putting dry-ish cigars in there, you might have to treat it again briefly since they'll suck that moisture into them.
13 years ago yesterday I bought my first pipe from Pipes By George. As is my custom, I smoked it again yesterday albeit with Blue Note instead of the MV-1000 which first graced its bowl. 7/24/2010 1:01:50 PM |

so i just got my humidor box out of the closet of my parent's house the other night. It hasn't been conditioned or seasoned in a very long time and the last time it wasn't very good. It's just a basic Thompson Co. box but it's nice. So what's the best way to season this thing. I read the humidor thread that's 5 years old which leaned towards heavily moistured wipings over 72 hours. I distinctly remember the first time I seasoned I used the shot glass method and it never really seemed to soak in. Thoughts?
Also, I need a good box of cigars to put in there when it's ready. Something not too expensive as i'll hand them out and smoke somewhat regularly. Thoughts? I've enjoyed R&Js, Fuente, C. Rey, Onyx, but i'm not too up on what's great these days. 6/8/2011 4:40:17 PM |

What humidifier product should I get this time around? The previous time I used the standard round one with the green florist block inside and it never worked well. I hear the gels are good. Do you recommend the Boveda packets or the gels you refill with humidifier solution? 6/10/2011 8:24:30 AM |

^ nice. this is the first non-basket pipe that i've owned so i can't say if it's better than other nice pipes, but i love mine. i justified the price by telling myself that i'll smoke that pipe for decades, so hopefully it lasts a while on me. 6/10/2011 12:27:44 PM |

I've got a 1996 Peterson that I bought in 1997 that I still smoke to this day. If you get a quality pipe, take care of it (and don't sit on it) you should be fine. 6/10/2011 2:58:07 PM |
