obviously everyone is pretty set in their opinions and aren't going to budge. the question to the OP - which was by the way just asking if there are any smoke free pool halls, not demanding that there be one - was answered halfway down page 1. so...

Kind of hard when there's smoke at every bar you go to.

^didn't you say Sullivan's has a ban? And quagmire has spoken about how more and more cities or states are enacting bans...so how is there smoke at every bar you go to?

^^

I figure most of the people in this thread are in NC. So I'm kind of arguing for ya'lls area.

It's great down here in Charleston. Mt. Pleasant, Sullivans Island, Downtown, and Folly Beach have all passed non-smoking bans and after an initial public outcry...everyone is loving it.

I'm trying to figure out why people are trying to ban smoking at parks anyways? They should go after bars and restaurants first.

HOWEVER...I guess people think of nature and clean water and air when they're at parks. It would kind of suck to go to parks and be subjected to people smoking. Not to mention the littering of cigarette butts. That's the only justification of a smoking ban at parks that I could think of.

And again...it's not about people who are allergic to cigarettes...its the harmful side effects to regular people that is the main concern.

i hear you on the litter aspect...but if you're worried about cigarette smoke in an open-air / outdoor setting....well theres a lot worse shit in the air obviously

I'm just speaking hypothetically...I don't frequent parks, so I'm trying hard to think of situations.

But as a hypothetical...think about going to Central Park and you're walking through those new "gates" and you happen to be walking directly behind someone smoking. You'd have to deliberately go out of your way so you're not trailing smoke for the whole walk. Ideally, you shouldn't have to "avoid" smokers at a park.

But honestly...who goes to a park and smokes anyways?? I would think even most smokers don't smoke a lot at parks. That's why I think its a pointless issue and people should focus on restaurants and bars more anyways.

i'm not sure about the new gates you're talking about...but in general its one thing to ban smoking in a confined space like a building where the smoke might visibly dissipate but is still there somewhat...its another to talk about any type of stagnant smoke outdoors in a park...that smoke is gone within a few seconds of exhaling

Yeah...never been to the "gates"...but they made a fucking movie about them thats on HBO all the time now. Some weird architectural project that they put on one of the big trails in central park.

aside from the health risks, cigarettes wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't smell so strong. today i was driving with my windows down and i could smell the guy smoking in the car in front of me - while we were moving. it wasn't that strong, but it is amazing that i can smell that and not, say, the exhaust from the car.

it would be nice if there was a filter on the other end of the cigarette but that just wouldn't work well now would it?

I don't see how a smoking ban in parks would be effective...how would you really enforce that?

I'd like to see them pass a smoking ban in bars/restaurants first. I guess we'll have to wait a few more years for that.

smoking in crowded public places should be just as illegal as companies dumping hazardous waste improperly....

it won't really kill you now but it can in the future

I'm just saying... it should be the establishment's right to do what they want on their property.
THEY DO OWN IT.... NOT YOU... YOU HAVE THE CHOICE NOT TO GO!

When people start telling me what leisure activities i can partake in on my property i'm going to be PISSED! keep in mind i HATE SMOKING/ 2nd hand smoke.

And waitresses ... find a better job you get paid to put up with smoking/assholes/etc. just like marines get paid to get shot at... its part of the job DEAL WITH IT.

I don't know of any non smoking pool halls but it would be a good idea, i would love to go to one.
I know 2 smoke free bars in Charlotte and i love them.

they already tell you, you know...you can't do most drugs, you can't host bestiality parties, and you can't have dog fights...in all of these cases, no other human being is being harmed in any way (i realize animals can be hurt, but this thread is arguing human health)...the government is telling you what to do already, why would smoking be any different? at least if you shot yourself up with heroin you'd not affect anyone else (immediately) with your choice, while smoking harms anyone in the vicinity
