BanjoMan is hot. There's plenty of girls (white and not) who would take a crack at that.

Yeah, I suppose, and I should know better than to go by anecdotal evidence like I did. Either way, one thing I do know is that when I was in love, I would've chosen the girl over the family (and everything else in life) and the decision wouldn't have even been close. I think she's just not feeling it and you might want to just cut your losses.

Yup, most of y'all were right: it's over.

Maybe she was speaking the truth, or maybe she found someone else. I guess I'll find out soon.

The odd thing is that I don't feel bad right now because it hit me so hard when she mentioned slowing down.

either way

easy to say but hard to do.

That was easily the happiest that I have ever been in my life. (or is that what they all say?)

I'm an indian married to a white chick.

I have one cousin who married a white guy, and another one who married a black guy.

They were older than me, and both of those cases created a lot of... problems...

but they set the precedent, so there was no drama with me.

A lot of Indian girls cannot think for themselves and feel that their culture is that of their parents.

"My plan is PhD --> post doc --> prof."

In other words, you will be very poor for at least a decade (best case) or your whole life (worst case). Academia in the natural sciences, is about the worst career path you could take. I know this is a little off topic but:

"Why does anyone think science is a good job?
The average trajectory for a successful scientist is the following:

1. age 18-22: paying high tuition fees at an undergraduate college
2. age 22-30: graduate school, possibly with a bit of work, living on a stipend of $1800 per month
3. age 30-35: working as a post-doc for $30,000 to $35,000 per year
4. age 36-43: professor at a good, but not great, university for $65,000 per year
5. age 44: with young children at home (if lucky), fired by the university ("denied tenure" is the more polite term for the folks that universities discard), begins searching for a job in a market where employers primarily wish to hire folks in their early 30s "

Being a prof is only bad if you think that work is just a place to try to make lots of money.

I want my life to have meaning, and I would not give two shits if I ended up making 65k a year if it meant that I could make some contribution to science. I would wake up every day and love going to my job.

In the long run, money does not make people happy.
