Seriously, I love the fact that they lost because it yet again reinforces the old thing about Royboy that he can't win with his own players.

This bs about them being overmatched is clearly wrong. Look at the number of McD All-Americans they have. Look at how many they have coming in next year.

The reason they lost is because their defense is a joke. Offensively they are a great team. However, Kansas just made them look stupid for long stretches last night. Until they prove to play defense at a high level consistently they are never going to be such a foregone conclusion to win it all.

it's amazing how easy it is for good teams to drive and score on them.. their interior defense is terrible.. when your NPOY big man only has 13 blocks in a season, you might have some problems. losing brandan wright really hurt them in this area

they lost b/c roy williams is an absolutely great recruiter, and a very mediocre coach.

a team like kansas that has the talent to match unc's, and superior coaching, will win more times than not. KU knew exactly what they were going to do to everyone on carolina's roster. UNC apparently made no preparations to stop kansas.

^ Agreed. Carolina looked completely unprepared for the first 15 minutes and, of course, Roy is too stubborn to call a timeout to halt momentum. I was very surprised that this team lost its composure as overcoming adversity has been one of their strong points all season long. There's really no excuse to come out and lay an egg like they did last night. Digging yourselves out of a 28 point hole against a Final Four caliber team is all but impossible.

Now I'm really torn about who to root for on Monday night. I really don't want either to win the title.

To be fair to you guys (wow, I'm scaring myself here), they almost still did it. After Kansas got up 28, they just started playing horrendously stupid. Guys were taking 18-foot fadeaway shots triple-teamed after running down the court from the inbounds and had no one under the basket for the rebound. When they calmed down and passed to the open man for an easy bucket they were finally able to pull away. Both teams last night left a lot to be desired. It wasn't that the two teams were forcing the other team to make mistakes, it was just each team was doing a ton of careless unforced stupidity when they had the ball.

I don't especially buy this shit about Roy Williams being a "mediocre" coach.

Mediococre coaches don't regularly win 30+ games a year I don't care what conference you're in.

I remember somebody (maybe StingrayRush) saying something to affirm one of you guys' comments about him being a shitty coach and you've all just rolled with it.

And mediocre coaches don't win titles either; I don't care whose players they have...

as an overall "coach", roy williams is pretty good.

as a recruiter and manager of talent, he is second to none.
as a pure basketball coach, he's not that great.

I wouldn't say it was particularly disapointing season for roy, winning the regular season and conf tournament, finishing as one of the top four teams which is around where unc was predicted ain't bad, so it's hard to say roy is a shitty coach just for one game

that one post from carolina that was mentioned had some decent points, I'm not sure if you can get by with one shooter on the court these days, if your point guard can't really do much from the perimeter and then you go with a purely defensive/slasher type than it might have made more sense to go with another perimeter shooter instead of two post players, esp since deon is useless defensively anyways, which is why I was screaming at roy not to put thompson back in

wait what did i say now? roy isn't the best "x's and o's" guy out there, but he isn't horrible. his big thing, and he learned this from dean, is that he expects his players to be mentally tough enough to overcome adversity. thats great if its early in the season and you're trying to build for the stretch run, but when you're in the fucking final four, you better pull out all the stops and call a fucking timeout to make an adjustment.

roy's methods work obviously 80% of the time, but he sure picked a shitty time to not make an adjustment for the other 20

ya they have 3. Duke has 8 so its obviously not a measure of talent. Its a measure of hype.

Kansas is better than UNC at 4 positions. Kansas has four guards better than Lawson. They were overmatched everywhere except for Tyler.

Roy is a great coach. One of the best and even without a championship still should be a holl of famer. His system works regardless of talent. If you watched other UNC games they get wide open layups all game pretty much and are always in position to get the offensive rebound. Its more coaching than talent. He makes guys like Danny Green and Deion Thompson look like All Americans.

also consider that duke is losing one AA and gaining one AA, unc is gaining three AAs next season.

that puts their total up to 8, which is tied with duke obviously.
