I think they should do the Hillsborough revamp before trying to make a river. 6/27/2008 12:12:58 PM |

I didn't mean tongue and cheek about the river; I meant with the comparisons to Chicago and other big cities. 6/27/2008 12:33:28 PM |

^^Go to Melvins next to Two Guys Pizza. They have a drawing of what the future plans are. They have been talking for a while now that there will be some turn arounds. Maybe the choo choo train can take riders from Hillborough street to our riverwalk.

even if they plan all this shit, they'll never do it for several years. the city always does shit like that. they sit around and debate things to death and never get shit done for several years. my dad was telling me one time about how they were first talking about 540 in the late 70s, and it finally got built about 10 years ago 7/10/2008 2:29:21 PM |

i know that in sim city, if you put in a light rail system in your city and it never gets used it just eats away at all your money till youre in the red. 7/10/2008 2:35:49 PM |

Roughly North of Downtown along Capital Blvd, in that crappy area near Peace St. There are a bunch of trash trucks parked there now.

Some of these are kind of funny. Some are realistic. For some it's kind of sad because they really shouldn't be considered "big ideas" for any respectable city. 9/18/2008 11:28:32 AM |

I like the idea of making the squirrel the city mascot. A wolf might be better though ... 9/18/2008 12:12:55 PM |

I saw this on the news. PLEASE NO GIANT SQUIRREL STATUES!!!!!!!!! As for the stadium down town, I don't think that is a good idea. Wake Med soccer park was rated as one of the 10 best soccer stadiums in the USA. We already have Carter Finley Stadium and the RBC Center. There is a rule in the MLB that you can't have 2 minor league teams with in 30 miles of each other. That is why the Mudcats are so far away. We will never have an MLB team either. Parking would also be a major problem in that situation too. If we would ever get an MLS soccer team sometime before the end of the world then the best bet would be to remodel Wake Med Soccer Park. 9/18/2008 12:20:17 PM |

A downtown stadium is most likely to be for Shaw University football. They wanted to build a stadium of their own, but couldn't get political support from the city. 9/18/2008 1:20:08 PM |

who the hell would want a MLS team here? Nobody would go to that shite. 9/18/2008 3:38:15 PM |

I don't really care about MLS, but it's worth pointing out that the Railhawks, a shitty team in an irrelevant minor league, averaged about 5,000 people at their games last year. MLS attendances range from 8,000-21,000 on average.
That said, I doubt we will see a downtown sports venue of any sort anytime soon. 9/18/2008 4:07:45 PM |

^^I'm a fan, but we are still a USL town. My point was we already have new stadiums in the area for college football, college basketball, pro hockey, minor league baseball, and pro soccer. There really is no need for a downtown stadium unless like someone said, Shaw builds a football stadium there. 9/18/2008 10:38:55 PM |
