i took it once...in fall '96

i got 1200 (650 verbal/550 math) and I was golden....

i actually sent in my application late and got accepted before most of the people I knew that applied early and took the SAT 9823823 times....and i could have gotten a full ride to the University of Kentucky....

I think you misunderstand the value of the score on this test... the SAT is hardly a score of genius. It's more accurately a test of "whether or not a person tests well".

^^^^they were very self-righteous when I went to just about anything there (campus tour, morehead interviews).

Whenever I would ask questions like how many law school students do you actually accept from your own student body, I would receive a blah blah response with a why would you question our academics undertone.

I actually got deferred, then accepted, to both UNC and State. I was surprised, but I wrote a good essay for UNC I think.


I chose State because I thought I was doing engineering. If I had known I would switch to Poli Sci I probably would have picked UNC. Plus a really good freind from HS was doing Poli Sci at UNC.

But it all worked out in the end.

the verbal part tests "has this person read anything besides magazines over the past 10 years?"
while the math part tests "was this person paying attention 1 or 2 years ago in sophmore math?"

I got in everywhere i applied, here, UNC, and VTech. had more friends coming here and was interested in possibly going to vet school in the future and hoped to make some contacts as an undergrad.

friend of mine acctually did get a 1599 on the SAT .... she got grounded for not getting a 1600. cross my heart.


I got a 1380 something as a freshman, knew that was good enough to get me into state and never took it again

got a 1050 in 7th grade to get into that DUKE tip program. so many amazingly fine girls for middle schoolers did TIP

NCSU has some pretty damned respectable colleges for really bright people. School of Design is pretty highly rated. Engineering isn't top tier like Stanford or MIT, but it's certainly in the next tier. There's a difference between coming to NCSU with your credentials that could've gotten you in someone else and becoming an architect or nuclear engineer and coming to NCSU despite your Ivy league highschool stats just for a degree in, ohh, let's say...Parks and Rec...or even English. Of course, even if you had a big GPA and high SATs in highschool and came to NCSU only to go into CHASS, if what you ultimately want to do with your degree wasn't going to reward you for a better school anyway, and you wanted to stay close to home and save some money, well, I guess that's fine, too.
