I feel like this has held up. At least I still really like it.

Virtually all of the James Cameron oeuvre. The man would be the best cinematographer in history but he instead chose to be a hamfisted storyteller with no sense of nuance

I started watching it about a year or two ago and thought it was pretty lame. That was very disappointing."

Watched this last month, still thought it stands up fine. Nothing super super cheesy effects-wise.

Slightly related, but I was watching Oblivion last night and there's a scene where they show part of the Manhattan skyline. One of the buildings shown is still under construction - won't be finished for another year or so. Yet, there it was in a movie that came out 3+ years ago. Forward thinking a bit, if you ask me.

The Neverending Story.

I LOVED the shit out of this movie as a kid. It was on HBO recently, and i watched it and wondered what in the fuck I ever saw in it. nonsensical plot, terrible dialogue, terrible acting.

Atreyu's horse died because it was too sad and the swamp then swallowed him up. I didn't remember this from when I was a kid, but watching it now made me want to stab the script writer multiple times. Because naturally Atreyu was sad enough about the whole thing that it should have killed him too.

NeverEnding Story is my reply as well. I still have this fantastical idea about it in my head from when I was a child because it scared the FUCKING SHIT out of me. Fuck The Nothing. But I bought it on DVD a few years ago and watched it again. It sucks balls. That song still fucking rocks though.

My theory is that a special effects movie which used primarily practical effects (puppets, explosions, etc) will age better than one that depended on CGI and camera tricks. So, Jurassic Park is going to do mostly fine, because although it was CGI dinosaurs, about half the dino-shots were puppets.

The Game

Loved it when I was younger. Must have missed the fact that the movie gives itself away within the first hour.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was not held in high regard to begin with, but it looks even more terrible in modern eyes. Back then they thought the digital effects would make it a masterpiece.

Blair Witch Project is a good answer. I can see kids watching it today thinking "this is something I could find in hundreds of YouTube videos".

Blair Witch Project was also always terrible. But people thought Paranormal Activity was good as well, and it's equally awful.

It's held up much better than any of the NextGen films.

The success of the Blair Witch Project was in its marketing. A movie with a sub-million dollar budget made $250 million on the back of a then-novel website that purported the footage was real.

Watched Jumanji over Christmas. Graphics/CGI/whatever was pretty abysmal. Acting wasn't too hot either.

^^^^ Generations and First Contact are better. The latter two Next Generation films aren't good. But In The Motion Picture there are long stretches where literally nothing happens.
