yeah, the 599 is quite a bit more $$$ than a comparable zuki. but like i told everyone who came in the store, you pay for the quality. not saying suzukis are bad or anything, or any other bike for that matter, but Honda quality is just unmatched by most other manufacturers. oh and does anyone know any decent rides around raleigh? i went up to falls lake and did old weaver trail. it was a 30 minute drive for a mile of going 100+. kinda lame...
8/5/2008 12:28:46 AM
the best roads are where it's tough to break into triple digits, at least for long.well, i guess there aren't any close to raleigh, but there are some decent roads in johnston county. less heavily patrolled, too.[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 12:30 AM. Reason : asdfads]

nuh uh, '01 $3.4k and blue http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/753188422.html]
8/5/2008 12:29:48 AM
yeah, i've seen that one. i want to see the ones advertised for $2500.you can find non-fucked up, non-worn out SVs for <$3000, but not '01-02 models, usually. $2500 would be an exceptionally low asking price for a decent SV, although you can probably pick one up for that if you're patient and negotiate.[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 12:32 AM. yeah, i was disappointed. i'm from high point, so back home its like a 30min ride and i'm in some decent mountain roads. riding around raleigh basically sucks. plus i about wreck everyday on campus staring at all teh womenz...
8/5/2008 12:32:32 AM
http://orlando.craigslist.org/mcy/739498486.htmlthat's all Crazedlist had under "south" except a track bike in Atlanta for $2400
8/5/2008 12:34:34 AM
that one would be mine for prob $1700 or so if i lived closer to orlando.

8/5/2008 1:13:25 AM
yeah, i almost did beaver dam when i rode old weaver. old weaver is pretty decent. probably about two miles of fairly straight road. no cops. pretty much in the middle of nowhere. you can really wind it out, depending on how brave you are...i'm always looking to ride. riding alone kinda sucks. if you wipe out, no one is there to laugh at you...
8/5/2008 1:35:41 AM
i should get rid of my motorcycle... But it's like the longest thing I've owned that has a name...
8/5/2008 1:39:32 AM
wait, you're looking for straight roads? on purpose? on a motorcycle? holyshit.
8/5/2008 1:40:13 AM
^for the sole purpose of actually going 100+ where i knew there weren't any cops, or any other cars. i prefer mountain roads. but that's kinda far from raleigh. this was just something i did one afternoon when i was bored and read about it on the intranetwebz.
8/5/2008 1:42:51 AM
Straights never inspire me. Maybe for wheelies, but even wheelies don't spark my interests no more. Wished I had time to track the RR, but time is always against me.^honestly, you don't need long straightaways to achieve 100+mph. If you want some fun, try a drag stripe. Grab a few friends and head out there. Can't beat what 10-20 a night for unlimited runs (or that's when I went last). I suck at launching though.[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 1:45 AM. Reason : ]

Here's the "Boat Ramp" btw: http://tinyurl.com/boatramp1I screwed up my HWY 42 link in the post above. This is the correct link:http://tinyurl.com/5jbojc^ Drag racing stripes ftw. LOL[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 1:53 AM. Reason : ]

yeah, seriously. you can go way over 100 mph from a standing start in just a 1/4 mile. you could do it on a 10+ year old 600cc bike, too, or an SV650, or probably even a Ninja 500 (maybe not way over, in that case).Shit, I've busted 100 mph in a couple spots at Deal's Gap. I've busted 100 mph around turns posted at 35 mph advisory speed more times than I can count. You don't need any space at all to reach that speed on a sportbike.[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 1:51 AM. 8/5/2008 1:48:38 AM
^^i'll hafta check that out
8/5/2008 1:50:06 AM
i know i can go well over 100 on basically any road around here. but here's the thing: i knew there were no cops on old weaver. i have had 2 tickets this year. and i've only been riding the street bike for a month.don't get me wrong, i started riding dirt bikes when i was 3, and raced motocross for 11 years. but its a whole different game on the pavement. i figured the first time i tried to see what she could do, i had better damn well have some room...
8/5/2008 1:51:46 AM
Boat ramp is gay. I stopped going there after I almost hit that dog that ran right out in front of me. I stopped like 2 inches in front of it. I was like "NOT AGAIN!!!" Oh, btw, cops patrol there regularly now. Check out http://www.ncsportbikes.com. A number of guys on there got tagged recently.I've only gotten up to 90mph on the short straights on deals gap. Only shifted to 2nd gear like 3 times the whole time. It took about 4.5 miles to get my old cbr600 F2 to reach 153mph, or max speed. Top end just creeps slowly. 0-120 is fast as shit, 120-150 is like 3-4x the time.[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 1:53 AM. Reason : ]

is that the same avent ferry as right by campus? didn't realize it was that long.
8/5/2008 1:53:52 AM
^^Yeah, the people I talked to said the cops go down there because they've had problems with people shooting back there. The only thing that I've heard is that they've told people to slow down. I was riding with someone from NCS and saw two other folks from that forum on that very road Sunday.^ Actually I don't think it's the same road. It's definitely not a straight shot from up near campus. Look at 42 as well, I fixed that link. I may try it out although it doesn't seem as curvy as the shorter roads.[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 2:00 AM. Reason : ]
8/5/2008 1:54:40 AM
yeah, i rode the whole thing in 2nd gear...easier throttle control.i think i broke 100 twice...think one of them was 110. it was on a GSX-R 750, and I was hauling ass pretty good (ended up wrecking, but that was actually after i dialed it back and started taking it easier, not trying to drag knees and footpegs through every other corner).
8/5/2008 1:55:43 AM
anyone done piper's gap rd. out of mt. airy? its badass. me and my cousin did that. he was on a road king tho...
8/5/2008 2:02:41 AM
I kept over heating my motor. I tried to keep up with the tdub evo crew, but I just went at my own pace and still got owned.

^^^^same here. lots o benefits w/the 919. what sucks is that if it were labeled as an 899, insurance would be only slightly higher than the 599. lame. and i have state farm as well. ~$400/year for full coverage. the 919 woulda been ~$900, and the next-lowest company woulda been ~$3300/year for the 599 i should mention that a)I have a few points, and b)my family has 10 policies through state farm. this is my own policy, but they counted the ones my parents had since we're related and whatnot...[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 1:24 PM. yeah mine is just liability because for certain reasons i'd be purchasing the bike on a yearly basis in insurance.
8/5/2008 1:32:16 PM
what are some recommendations for an old, ugly, slow, fuel-efficient, stable, and reliable bike for less than $1k?

8/5/2008 3:43:46 PM
^ that's the US cover...the british cover had no painted-on panties
8/5/2008 3:44:23 PM
That really is a US cover.

I got the 550 I mentioned on the last page. The battery and speedometer are boned and the electrical system in general seems a bit wonky. Hopefully I can get some things taken care of tomorrow and get her road ready ASAP.
8/5/2008 8:48:18 PM
Got a new battery today, that cleared up the electronics issues. I think I have a small oil leak, though. And I can't find a damn oil filter anywhere. This thread is now my CB550 blog.
8/6/2008 9:56:10 PM
hahah awesome.... love the cafe' racer style
8/6/2008 10:45:54 PM
any other good beginner v twin sport bikes??
8/7/2008 7:37:44 PM
Honda Hawk...I think it's designated as NT650 sometimes...they have sort of a cult following, though, and you can get an SV for about the same price, which I'd much rather have.
8/7/2008 7:43:49 PM
dad told me yesterday I can take the bike while he is out of town as long as I have another rider with me.... i thought he was kidding
8/7/2008 8:29:44 PM
8/7/2008 9:30:35 PM
^^ what does he ride?
8/7/2008 10:39:45 PM
he has a custom softail and electraglide ultra but he got me a honda rebel as somethin to learn on
8/7/2008 11:41:38 PM
oh, you mean he agreed to let you take out the Rebel he bought for you to ride as long as you're with anothe rider...i thought you meant he said you could take out his bike.
8/7/2008 11:43:45 PM
lol, FUCK NO. Pretty much the whole reason he got the honda in the first place is because he didn't want his girlfriend or I fucking up his bikes while we are still learning.

8/8/2008 12:32:13 AM
Yeah the monster is always an option. It's got about 80hp and it seems like a sweet bike. I almost went for one when it seemed like I wasn't going to find an SV, but I finally found an SV! Everything is more expensive with Ducs though.
8/8/2008 12:57:20 PM
yeah... i don't want to maintain a duc.
8/8/2008 1:02:46 PM
Yeah, and for a noob parts are much cheaper for a SV than a duc too.Damn, I need to order pinstripe and make my bike pretty. Should post potential designs here and get TWW to vote. Yeah I am crazy and like putting on pinstripe.
