Capital Blvd. is without a doubt, one of the worst areas of the city. It's definitely worse than any part of Western Blvd. In fact, other than say, New Bern Ave. it's probably the most dangerous part of the city.

I avoid the north part of Capital, but mainly because I hate the traffic on that road and there is very little of any interest to me. Unless I'm going to Tiger Direct, Sam Ash, or Guitar Center, there's no reason for me to subject myself to that damn street and its bad drivers and slow pace. The part nearer downtown seems considerably sketchier to me, with its low-rent motels, shady little car dealerships, etc., but that part is more like a highway until you start encountering stoplights near 440.

South Raleigh is the only part of Raleigh remotely close to being ghetto. Capital and Glenwood are pretty much the same thing outside the beltline. In fact, capital has much more retail and every major car dealership. Its not great its not "classy" you can hate it, but its far from ghetto. The word ghetto on this forum obviously means "lower than average % of white people" why not just say black. We know thats what you mean. Also, the other 193 were probably white anyway.

My friend is RPD and works capital, he says its one of the worse places for crime statistically.

well up until recently they were only allowed to live in certain areas of the city and couldn't get jobs etc. These areas were not taken care of at all and provided with bad schools, environmental discrimination and no adequate public services . Once the restrictions were removed its not like they all of a sudden are going to pop out and the appraisal practices were put in place to keep their value artificially low thus keeping them there. To this day there still aren't fair loan practices so it is extremely hard to get out, and without proper education, many don't even know how. Go to a public school for one of these slums and then go to a public school in cary. Same system, same budged, night and day. Raleigh is one of the best areas. It gets much worse in big cities.

I know Raleigh is one of the cleanest cities in the state, hell in America. I'm from High Point. that place is a huge slum.

But what I'm saying is that our government has given minorities every opportunity to advance themselves. Listen to Bill fuckin Cosby talk about it. From affirmative action to college funds, etc., they have been given the opportunity to better themselves, most just won't do it.

hell, even NCSU has an African American student center, and various Latino, Indian, and other minority centers. Even the LBGT or LGBT or whatever the hell it is now.

you don't see a straight white male center anywhere.

i realize some of these people simply cannot get out of debt or whatever, but it can't be blamed on the government anymore.

Affirmative action only goes so far. It helps black that would have been able to make it anyway and still doesn't compensate for the vast amount of racism that still goes on in this country. This is about poor blacks though. Not middle class blacks. College funds don't help single mothers. Student centers don't help inner city schools. Many of the counselors in these schools discourage the idea of going to college and don't even place kids in the right classes to as much as qualify for classes. The elementary schools are awful. Most of these poor kids never have a chance. Also when you are born into bad health, and have bad living conditions and a stressful life as a direct result of where you are born you are already set for failure. Only epics can make it out of this struggle. ^You don't know the half. You just read the internet and sit back and judge people.

also, i live in greensboro... and i drive down MLKjr (if i were black i would hate how thats always in mostly black communities) many many mornings at about 5-5:15 am, and when it's dark out there are ALWAYS hookers out, dudes on the corners on bikes just sitting there... people lined up at the side window of one house, etc etc etc. its not as bad after 5:30 or 6 when the sun is up, but there are still lookouts on the corners and shit

and, oh yeah, there's a BRAND NEW elementary school right there. the town has pumped millions of dollars into renovating that area of town south of downtown, rebuilt tons of single and mixed/multi family housing... businesses, the best schools in the city, etc.

and people dont respect it enough to stay off the fucking corner

thats not the kids faults, but you'd think their parents would be all over that shit
