Apple Butter crock pot recipe:

Ingredients:

- Apples cut, peeled and chopped up - fill crock pot leaving some space near the top of the pot

4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups sugar
4 tablespoons water

Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH until hot, then turn to LOW and cook all day (7 to 10 hours). When it is done and apples are fully cooked down put small amounts into food processor and pulse until smooth.

Here's skuz's beef burgandy.

Skuz doesn't really measure stuff, but trust me it will work out.

Buy some beef (Duh) Stew meat is fine.
fresh mushrooms. maybe two containers. Skuz likes the "baby bella" type.
1 16 oz can of beef broth.
three or four large yellow onions.
1 can cream of onion soup.
1 package lipton french onion soup mix. (It's that stuff you use to make onion dip)
4 slices of bacon, or bacon fat if you collect and save it.
some flour.
Bottle of red wine.

OK,
Roll your pieces of meat in some flour to coat it.
brown it in some olive oil over med high heat to sear it. just get some burnt color on the meat. Don't try to cook it!

place meat in crock pot. add the mushroom soup and onion soup powder, beef broth and then enough wine to just cover the meat.

Cook that shit for for six hours.

Now dump in your baby bella's and stir it up.

start cooking your bacon, or place your bacon fat in a pan.
How much you use depends on how paranoid you are about cholesterol. You can skip it and just use olive oil, a a blend of the two.

remove bacon and save for later.

Cut up or slice 'yer onions and saute them in the oil/fat over med high heat.
You want to saute the shit out of 'em so the sugars break down and the onions are dark in color.
If you sliced them they will look like a bowl of earth worms.

Dump the onions in and let simmer a little more and you are ready.

If the stew needs to be thicker, make a rue with flower and butter. (google it)

Serve over egg noodles with asparagus and salad and the rest of the wine, if you haven't drank it all yet.

Guys this will really impress a date. You will trick your female friend into believing you enjoy the finer things in life. Fine art. Fine foods. Fine conversation!
She will want to spend the night with you and the next morning wou will further dazzle her
by making her breakfast using the bacon that you saved from last night's dinner.

Jesus, djeternal has some delicious-sounding (and looking) recipes on here. Makes me sort of wish I had a crockpot.

I have a really cool stove-to-oven saucier that I'd love to do some low-roast/crockpot-esque recipes with. Anyone know how to convert a crockpot recipe to a stove/oven recipe?

Yeah, that'll be the first thing I buy, once I get 'settled' somewhere, after graduating (and getting a job). Because I freakin love some good stews and chilis, and crockpots are so much more versatile than most people think, IMO.

Beer Weenies - great to take to holiday parties

Cocktail Smokies (however many you want)
equal parts of yellow mustard and grape jelly.

Mix mustard and jelly in a crock pot.
Heat on medium heat stirring occasionally. Mustard and jelly will mix as it heats up.
Add Coctail smokies
Let cook on medium for an hour or so. (you basically just have to heat them up good)
profit.

Crock of Shit?

18 ounces chipped (dried) beef
2 sticks butter
1 cup flour
1/2 gallon milk
1 tsp salt
1 T pepper

In a crock pot on high, melt the butter with the dried beef and flour until it starts to brown. (1 hour?) Add the milk, salt & pepper. Bring to a boil. (2 hours?) Serve over toast or waffles.

I'm making the sweet/spicy meatballs tomorrow for our office pot luck

2 lbs frozen meatballs
12 oz. jar of Bennett's or Heinz Chili Sauce
18 oz. jar of grape jelly

Heat chili and grape jelly in a pot, stirring frequently, until jelly is melted and well mixed with the chili sauce.

Put meatballs in crockpot and pour mixture over top.

Cook on low for 4 hours or until meatballs are hot. Stir it up occasionally.

Super easy, but a HUGE hit.


Also, the sauce that is left after all the meatballs are gone makes and AWESOME dip in my opinion.

Made this today.


5 boneless chicken breasts
1 yellow onion
1 pepper (your choice of spiciness)
2-4 strips of bacon
2 cans corn niblets
2 cans red kidney beans
3 cans tomatoes (whole, stewed, or diced)
shreaded cheese
chili powder

Thaw the chicken breats and begin cooking in a stove top pan on med heat. While the chicken is cooking chop the onion and pepper and set aside for later. Once the chicken is starting to look cooked on the outside, cut the strips of bacon into bite sized pieces and add them to the pan for cooking. Now that the chicken and bacon are done on the stove let them cool until you can cut the chicken breats until small strips or bite-sized pieces.

Drain and rinse the kidney beans and then add them to the slow cooker. Next, drain the corn and add on top of the beans. Add about 2 tsp of chili powder over the beans and corn.

Now add the meats; put down a layer of chicken and then the bacon on top of it. Next, add the 3 cans of tomatoes (undrained). I chose to use 2 cans of whole peeled tomatoes and 1 can of stewed tomatoes.

Finally, add the onion and pepper to the top of it all. Add another 2 tsp of chili powder on top, along with any other spices you desire. I used a little red pepper powder, salt, and black pepper.

Now let it all cook for about 5 hours on high. Throw a batch of Jiffy muffins in the oven, add the shreaded cheese to the crock pot, and lower the heat to warm for 20-30 minutes while the muffins are baking. Stir well, and serve.

I have this cooking at home right now...grandma's chili recipe.

2 lbs. ground beef (I used 93/7)
4 cloves of garlic (chopped and crushed)
1 medium onion (chopped)
1 28.5 oz can of diced tomatoes
1 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes
2 14.5 oz cans of chili beans
1 T cumin
1 T chili powder
1 t Tabasco sauce
1 T worsch sauce

I added one cup of water and am letting it cook all day. Hopefully it turns out edible.

I bought a pretty nice crock pot today that has a timer (and temp probe, although I don't know if I'll ever use that). Since I'll be working 9-6, and a solid 30-40 min commute both ways, I'm hoping I can come up with some delicious, easy to throw together meals.

Anyone have any really good ideas? I enjoy cooking, so I'm looking for some interesting flavors to try out.

Creamy Chicken Italiano

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (you can cut them up if you like, they'll shred anyway by the end, though they will shred easier if they're at least halved)
1/4 c water (or chicken broth, your choice)
1 envelope dry Italian salad dressing mix
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 can (10+ oz one) cream of chicken soup
1 can (4 oz) mushroom stem pieces - OPTIONAL

Pour water or broth into cooker. Mix in the italian seasoning. Place the chicken in there. Stir it around to get some of that dressing on the chicken. Cover. Cook on low for three hours. Combine the cream of chicken, cream cheese and the optional mushroom pieces. Pour over chicken. Cook one more hour, I put it in high during this time usually, because I like some shredded chicken.

Looks terrible, but tastes GREAT served over wide egg noodles. Yum yum.

So I made the Martha Stewart recipes posted somewhere in this thread - it was pretty good but I think the beans got a tad scorched.

I'm not such a fan of just cream-based soups and chicken. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm debating between a slow-cooker curry or some sort of beef roast with wine and onions. I'm grocery shopping tomorrow and gonna fix something Monday (yay for a day off), so if anyone has any awesome suggestions, send them this way.

^ I have really enjoyed a lot of recipes out of the Better Homes and Garden 5-ingredient slow cooker recipes. If you want, I can list some of the recipes that are beef based for you. If you would've sprayed your crock pot with Pam or something, it might've saved your beans.

Here's another one I enjoyed, and yes, it does have cream of chicken in it, but its not creamy at ALL.

Chicken Chili Soup
9 oz package Southwestern seasoned cooked chicken breast strips (I simply marinated chicken strips in Southwestern grill marinade overnight, and they need to be cooked before)
15-19 oz can white kidney (cannellini) beans, rinsed and drained
16 oz jar salsa (I used medium picante sauce)
10.75 oz cream of chicken soup
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
3 c water

Spray the slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Combine chicken, beans, salsa, soup and cumin. Stir in water. (you can leave out the water if you want more of a chili consistency instead of a soup).

Cover and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours or high for 3.5 to four hours.

It has a nice kick and a slow burn to it. I've found my favorite beans too

Barbecue Crock Pot Recipe:

1 4 to 5 pound pork Boston Butt.
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp dark molasses
1 tbsp liquid smoke or smoked salt

Use a dry rub of your choice. Place the pork in the crock pot. I set it on an upside down saucer to keep it out of the liquids and grease. Add the wet ingredients and set the crock pot on low. Cook for 10 to 12 hours. Cool, pull meat from skin, bones and fat. Pull meat with two forks to shred. Serve with a barbeque sauce of your choice.

BBQ chicken

Chicken breast
1 bottle of bbq sauce

But a layer of bbq sauce at the bottom of crock pot
Put in chicken
Cover chicken with the rest of the bbq sauce
Cook on low all day

Serve with a green veggie or corn and rice.

My sister in law gave me a large slow cooker for Christmas. It's just the right size to put a whole chicken in there. I like it way better than a standard crockpot for that very reason. I've used it to cook a whole chicken just for dinner and also to cook my chicken to make chicken and pastry. Is awesome. If you're thinking about getting a crockpot and haven't gotten one yet, I recommend getting a larger sized one that is wider than it is deep.

no. a pressure cooker is exactly the opposite of a crockpot. a pressure cooker is used to cook things quickly, a crockpot is used to cook things slowly
