Ole Time's good, but it's not even close to Cooper's.

Solid place for breakfast, though.

We used to go there a lot when we lived in Raleigh. We liked it there, and the people were always nice. It was always kind of fun to egg the owner, Jerry, on too.

Ole Time is great!

I remember the first day I moved down to Raleigh I drove around looking to experience some southern cuisine for the first time and I stopped there, and I wasn't disappointed. The family that runs the place is nice.

Okay--you talked me into it! Just got back and finished takeout.

I've lived in Raleigh for about ten years now, but for whatever reason I just never tried Ole time. Here's my review:

Pulled pork: Very good, but just a little dry for my taste. BTW, had it with hot sauce, which was very good.

Mashed potatoes and gravy: Good.

Cabbage: Very good.

Collards: Okay, but had some kind of a funky taste.

Hush puppies: Very good.

Sweet tea: Okay, but not sweet enough--and taste like instant or something.

All in all, I give Ole Time BBQ a very good rating. I'd say it's a tossup between them and Pam's Farm House (yes, I know Pam's is not a BBQ joint).

Between The Pit, Cooper's, and Ole Time, I am a pretty happy mother fucker when it comes to BBQ.

I think I hate on the Pitt because Nana's is gone It's not the Pitt's fault, but they get my anger anyways.

Backyard BBQ in Durham is waaaaaay better.

And this is coming from a huge Ole Time BBQ fan before I had Backyard.

I would agree with this entirely if I had ever had Moores (where is it?)

^^^
The Pit sucks overall IMO. The BBQ wasn't actually bad, but it was lacking in other places. The atmosphere was definitely all wrong for a BBQ place. And, when I went my friend got the greenbean casserole and the fucking green beans were CRUNCHY. Yeah, crunchy, like the fucking yankees cook them. That just ain't right.

I've noticed that too. I almost wonder if they put so much emphasis on being able to cook good BBQ that they didn't even notice that the chefs can't cook anything else very well. I've had my share of bad appetizers and bad sides there. If you go closer to closing time you're also likely to get dry BBQ thats been sitting out all night.

That being said, they have a few kick ass desserts there.

The one time I've been to the Pit the sides were excellent. Damn fine mac n' cheese and the other side I can't quite remember what I got, but I remember being very satisfied. The BBQ itself was certainly good, but was it better than OTB? Nope.

I wasn't trying to slam the place. I've had good meals there.

It's just been rather hit or miss.
