why didn't she say that barack was ready to lead?

i think people get it. if you are (were) a true hillary supporter, you're not going to vote for mccain. its like she said...you aren't going to vote for someone with the complete opposite message. she could have been more forceful. the mccain campaign just did a good job finding a hole in the speech (the fact that she didn't focus more on obama's character and ability to lead). but that would happen regardless...if not on that point, something else.
and i didn't really expect her to spell it out. she lost, she endorsed obama. can't really expect much more. 8/26/2008 11:36:44 PM |

"she was trying to convince herself"
"Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our president." "Nothing less than fate of our nation and future of our children hang in the balance." I think she wasn't talking to herself there and I don't think it was a casual endorsement, it was a very strong one.
The "No way, No how, No McCain" line, combined with the specific policy differences, was a pretty strong anti-McCain line. I think talking in terms of is he ready to lead or not would have been letting McCain's camp set the terms of speech, instead she talked about how a vote for McCain is a vote against her and her campaigns ideals, and that's what Hillary supporters needed to hear more than anything else that McCain is not the way they should turn.
Biden will say Obama is ready to lead, and to some degree Bill may too. Hillary needed to address her supporters and say McCain is not the way to go, and she did that.

well i think the final part of her speech kind of tied everything together. she didn't use obama's name that much, but its like...people should get the point. and if they don't, we have bigger problems. i mean if there are hillary supporters that would really actually vote for mccain...then they aren't really in it for the country and the causes (like she said). 8/26/2008 11:41:04 PM |

I thought it was a fantastic speach although it pains me to say so because I don't care for her at all. And it's not because of her strong endorsement of Obama (and I do think that was a compelling message she laid out for him and her hangover supporters flipping to mccain)....it was because the content was great and delivery top notch. 8/26/2008 11:41:15 PM |

mhum, i bet the RNC will be all about country unity. of course, taking hints from http://gop.com/ , I'd say the Republicans are a lot more interested in Obama and the Democrats than they are about McCain - at first glance, at least 5 mentions of Obama/Biden, and 1 of McCain....8/27/2008 11:27:16 AM |

its that time in the political process where you attack the other candidate...both sides are doing it...the Reps seem to be better at it (and it apparently worked in 04)...but its just another unsavory aspect of politics and another reason I could give a fuck about voting for any of these jackass powerhungry pathological selfish greedy liars] 8/27/2008 11:31:20 AM |

so don't vote and keep whining
that is what most americans do. its always best to go with the majority you know. baa baa baaa.
and as i'm sure you will tell me you already know, parties attacking each other is no new concept in politics. in fact, this "unsavory" concept is what has (for better or for worse) shaped our country (which i'll also point out is still relatively young in the grand scheme of things. THUS people battling over power and ideologies is not uniquely american, either). i'll get you started with some examples...jefferson and hamilton and the marshall court? hamilton and jefferson...not exactly bff. but their arguments are sort of fundamental to america....even today. imagine how different things would have been if in our country's history if everyone agreed on everything.
i just don't understand when people say they don't care for politics. that is like saying you don't care for our country (regardless of your opinions. and they obviously don't have to fit into the democrat/republican mold...which is a whole different debate). and when people say politics has gotten "too messy"....what exactly are they basing that on? its always been messy throughout our country's history and WORLD history.
and finally, if you don't care for politics...which is what shapes government and ultimately our country (to greatly generalize my point)...what do you care for? anarchy? i mean has that worked for a civilization recently? no you don't have to be a democrat, you don't have to be a republican, you don't have to be anything. but if you complain and then don't participate on any level or bring any kind of engaging suggestions to the table, you're just wasting everyone's time. and i guess you can keep free-riding on the benefits that you receive that are derived from the unsavory political process.

You must have me confused with someone else. I never whine about the people in power or their policies. The only thing I whine about is when tax money is used for rich politician's personal gains. The people who whine all the time are the people who have been bashing Bush for the last 7 1/2 years, who probably voted for Gore/Kerry and are sore losers that their candidate didn't win. Don't confuse me for somebody who doesn't vote, but then complains about who is in power. I don't know what even gave you that idea.
And second, when does not voting for either of 2 candidates who you dislike mean you "don't care for politics?" That doesn't even make sense. If I didn't care about politics, why would I talk about politics? If I didn't care about politics, I wouldn't have my reasons for not voting for either candidate.
If that wasn't directed at me, ok fine. But if it was, you're completely mis-characterizing me and you obviously haven't been paying attention.]8/27/2008 2:48:34 PM |

^^^^ it wasn't all directed at you...your comments about the the unsavory aspect of politics just sent me on a tangent because i've been hearing people complain complain complain about how politics has gotten "dirty." but i was trying to point out that parties criticizing each other isn't a novel concept. i might have read too much into your use of "unsavory" but i just assumed since you said you weren't voting for either candidate, but then complaining about candidates that you were someone who just complains and doesn't do shit about it. which is like...everyone considering the dismal turnouts at polls. you ask your friends if they voted, they say yes...well at least 1/2 of them are lying. it just makes me mad. i never said not voting for either candidate makes you not care for politics. i just assumed (i guess mistakenly) that you didn't care because of the negative tone in your post. and because you seem to just be complaining about not liking either candidate...which is what most people do. instead of working towards an election that isn't dominated by two parties. it isn't impossible. and i just find it hard to believe that you can't find SOMETHING...some issue that you care about that one of the candidates stands for over the other. it is just hard for me to reconcile NOT voting for the leader of our country. and it just seems like most people (and maybe you don't) sit around and complain about the binary nature of american politics, but don't do anything about it. i'd love to see a viable third party. and maybe i have mis-characterized you, but i HAVE been paying attention. i guess i just don't understand anything you post. i guess this statement just seemed more apathetic to me than someone who cares about doing anything productive.
second, i don't see anything wrong with complaining about who is in power. hell yea i've complained about bush. maybe criticize is a better word. but it isn't because i'm a sore loser. its because he sucks (again, to generalize), our country is in sad shape, and bush WILL go down as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. it isn't like criticism of this administration is completely unfounded. it doesn't make people "sore losers."
so i guess i don't really understand this statement:
Quote : | "I never whine about the people in power or their policies" |
again, this seems apathetic. so you just wait and see who's elected (which i'm guessing is usually someone you don't give a fuck about voting for) and go along with their policies? no opinions thoughts concerns? no worry? i just don't get it.
