Wylock, good choice with the is300. That's a fun little sedan. Inline6 ftw. [armchairracer]Turbo that biotch when you can afford it. It can take it. [/armchairracer] My fave thing about the is300 is that it IS a lexus. Like owning a better looking 3 series but without also looking like a badge-victim. Not that dissimilar to my Lincoln ls, in that respect. It's a sports sedan from a brand that doesn't sell sports sedans. 9/11/2009 4:14:21 PM |

Yeah, I did get a CPO black-on-black 2005 IS300 fully loaded (including in-dash GPS). And I agree - it's no race car, but it's got plenty of get-up-and-go, it is indeed something different (I actually preferred it to the 3-series I tried), and it's freakin' reliable.
But it did take me some time to figure out how to get the oil filter out during the first change I did.

I would love to see the IS300 some time, if you get the chance Wyloch. Seriously. I've never been in one and I'd love to compare it to the current IS models...

Remember this:
Well, here is a teaser of the production car, the CT 200h. I bet it will be pretty tame in comparison to the great concept:
BTW:
Quote : | "The Lexus CT 200h is a compact hybrid which will share the same powertrain as the Toyota Prius - a gasoline/electric hybrid that combines a 1.8 liter engine with an electric motor for a total of 134 hp. The CT 200h is set to compete in the European premium compact hatch segment against the likes of the BMW 1-Series and the Audi A3." |
Blah... they also need to make a 180-200 hp version of that.2/12/2010 3:47:24 PM |

Had a chance to drive both the second gen IS250 and IS350.
Nicer interior, and a little more powerful, but just no soul, like my first generation has. Bloated and disconnected, IMHO.

all these complex ass hybrids are starting to piss me off. give me some diesel and lose some weight and we'd have 40-50 mpg all day long. 2/12/2010 8:39:40 PM |
shmorri2 All American 10003 Posts user info edit post |
Put a fucking diesel in a 2300lb and you will likely get >60mpg.
Seriously.
You know what. even if it only had 115hp, I'd buy a diesel civic hatch that weights <2300lb. Bitch would probably be pushing 200lbs-ft which would be uber rediculous for a small car like that!

The only Lexuses that I would actually want to drive would be an IS-F, *maybe* an IS300 (though I'd probably pick a 328 or an A4 if I was going for "5-10 year old sports sedan", or going older yet, an SC400 or a 1st gen GS300. And the GS300 would be because it was a damn beautiful design, not that it was all that interesting dynamically other than being RWD. 2/13/2010 4:10:34 PM |

Lexus LX 570 Wins San Felipe 250 Race

So.. this is ironic...
The IS250, even in sport mode while using the paddle shifter, would shift into the next gear if you hit redline... Today, while driving around, I was expecting the car to shift for me and then bam, I was bouncing off the rev limiter...
haha... I haven't done anything to the car, but holy shit, I enjoy the car a bit more now...
Anyways, I just wanted to post a voluntary recall:
http://www.lexus.com/recall/?s_ocid=pdsrch#hsRecallSection
Quote : | " 5. Is Lexus implementing the brake override system because there is an electronic control unit (ECU) defect?
Lexus is confident that no defect exists in the ECU that will lead to (or cause) unintended acceleration. Independent of the vehicle-based remedy, Lexus will install a brake override system in the involved Lexus ES and IS models to provide an extra measure of consumer confidence." |

Lexus Hybrid Bicycle Concept
Quote : | "Lexus has pioneered high performance, low emissions and optimum fuel efficiency with its full hybrid Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain technology. The Hybrid Bicycle adopts similar principles, with the pedal power of the rider boosted by assistance to the front wheel from a 240W electric motor, via a 25.9V Lithium-ion battery, with a choice of Eco or Power modes. And, as with Lexus Hybrid Drive, there is an energy regeneration function that helps recharge the battery by capturing kinetic energy generated under braking.
The Lexus Hybrid Bicycle has all-wheel drive, by means of a belt system. It is equipped with an electric eight-speed Shimano internal gear system, which references the sophisticated eight-speed shift-by-wire automatic transmission of Lexus's LS 600h limousine. The carbon fibre construction shares the same light-but-strong composite materials technology that was used on Valentino Rossi's MotoGP-winning motorcycle.
There are no current plans for the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle to become a production model." |

From an enthusiast POV, only 2 worthwhile Lexi:
IS-F LFA
And GS-F, if they ever make it.
They need to make a 200-225 hp version of that CT 200 to make it interesting. They should also make a proper competitor to the Nissan GT-R, you know, with performance similar to the LFA's, but price similar to the GT-R's. Or Toyota should do that (hello new Supra, where are you?!). And they should revive the SC as a proper successor to the first gen SC, not the useless 2nd gen that just went out of production.
"only 2": not bad for a sub-company that started just 20 years ago. 11/22/2011 6:07:35 PM |

^^You really can't call the LF-A a "production" car that enthusiasts can buy.
B/c 1) 99.5% of them/us cannot
2) production numbers are so tiny it's just about impossible to get one, regardless of how much money you make.
in the general discussion it's irrelevant. 11/23/2011 8:18:02 AM |
