This kind of shit has always pissed me off. I'm always amazed at how they'll take your money and then turn around and treat you like a common criminal.I grew up in a small hick town, so ALL we had was a Wal-Mart. After going through the "show me the receipt" bit a few too many times I got pissed and shouted "IF YOU WANT TO ACCUSE ME OF THEFT, GO AHEAD AND CALL THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND WE'LL DO A PROPER SEARCH!!!"Also, there is a big difference b/w a tv and bag of kitty litter. I would have no problem showing the receipt for a big ticket item, but who steals kitty litter? I'd prolly just keep walking and yell, "Can't stop now, the cat's gotta shit!"

^ During my time at Best Buy they tackled a guy they had caught stealing on tape. They weren't suppose to tackle him, but they had the tape of him stealing, and nothing else bad to the store ever came of it... the guy still got arrested.[Edited on September 30, 2008 at 9:55 AM. Reason : ]

if they did indeed tackle him and there was video evidence showing this, the case should have gotten thrown out of courtalso, the guy may not have known that they couldn't tackle him - that isn't exactly something officers are apt to mention when they're arresting you for larceny[Edited on September 30, 2008 at 9:57 AM. this is ridiculousyou want low prices and convenience? then you'll have to put up with them assuming you might steal something. that's how it is at walmart. quit whining

9/30/2008 10:08:52 AM
umm...no.if you want to shop at walmart, then that's what you have to put up with. you can't go into walmart and expect otherwise. you don't accidentally shop there. i know that unless target or another store has it on sale, i cannot get tidy cats scoop cat litter cheaper than at walmart.[Edited on September 30, 2008 at 10:13 AM. Wasn't there an entire thread and/or blog about this very thing, but included police etc?
9/30/2008 10:14:56 AM
I have said before that price isn't enough to get me to shop at walmart.
9/30/2008 10:17:09 AM
This is really fucking stupid. You were carrying an out of bag item... if you didn't want to show your receipt at the door you should have had them mark the outside of the kitty litter like they do with other large items that don't fit in a bag. I have plenty of qualms with Walmart, but this is just your own stupidity. Especially now that self check out lines are available, they have no way of knowing whether you did actually pay for all of your merchandise. If you have THAT MUCH of a problem with Walmart, don't shop there... EVER. Other places sell cat litter.Also- everyday necessity items (baby formula, diapers, ... even cat food/litter) are items that are stolen most frequently in walmart type stores. They are less noticeable and those without enough $$ to go around have to cut corners somewhere. They may be less in value, but a loss is still a loss and consecutive small losses add up quickly. Someone didn't read the whole thread But I'll go ahead and address two points you made:- self-checkout wasn't open- not shopping at walmart hardly ever (I think this trip makes two? in roughly five years), I didn't think about them being receipt nazis. Why the hell should I ask them to mark something as paid when I can just tell them no, walk out the door, and post online about how much walmart sucks [Edited on September 30, 2008 at 10:24 AM. they felt the point was proven and after that had to change their ways - they really didn't care that they studies show that it's beneficial to their bottom line and most people really don't care - they are going to start making rules to appease the whiny 1%this is a prime example of the straw that broke the camel's back[Edited on September 30, 2008 at 10:44 AM. SOME OF YOU ARE FUCKING RETARDED. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOW THEM THE RECEIPT, YOU CANNOT BE ACCUSED OF STEALING WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO STOP YOU NOR DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEMAND ANYTHING FROM YOU. THE WAY THEY CAN TELL IF YOU PAID FOR YOUR SHIT IS WHEN THE FUCKING ALARM GOES OFF AT THE DOOR. IF IT DOESN'T GO OFF AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY WITNESSES TO YOU STEALING AND THEY DON'T HAVE YOU ON CAMERA STEALING, THEN YOU CAN SIMPLY TELL THEM TO FUCK OFF. THEY CAN'T EVER STOP YOU TECHNICALLY. THEY CAN CALL THE POLICE IF THEY HAVE EVIDENCE, BUT THAT'S IT IN NC.IN TEXAS, HOWEVER, THE OWNER (OR THE EMPLOYEES) CAN SHOOT YOU (EVEN IN THE BACK AS YOU RUN OFF) IF YOU STEAL SOMETHING. THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THIS IS OF COURSE MISTAKEN IDENTITY OR THEM THINKING YOU STOLE SOMETHING WHEN YOU DIDN'T. THIS HAPPENED RECENTLY TO SOME KIDS WHO STOLE A CASE OF BEER. THEY WERE SHOT IN THE BACKS AS THEY RAN OFF. TECHNICALLY YOU CAN KILL SOMEONE OVER A STOLEN CANDY BAR THERE.[Edited on September 30, 2008 at 10:43 AM. Reason : ]

What's the big deal? I know in advance that if I have something not in a bag they'll ax me for my receipt so I keep it out. If I have too much to carry I use a buggy. I've never thought of this a single time b/c it's not a big deal (the OP even admits to that). They're not violating your constitutional rights. Why give the person making minimum wage to stand there all day a hard time.
9/30/2008 10:54:13 AM
Why comply with a policy one doesn't agree with? Especially when one doesn't have to?Anyone working at WM puts up with worse crap than a customer telling them no. I don't feel guilty in the least for having made this woman flustered.

9/30/2008 11:02:43 AM
I comply only b/c I feel bad for the greeters...on the other hand I bought those black cloth bags and for next two months had to stop at the greeter every time. That was pretty much a pain in the ass, it's like they offer them but didn't bother to tell anyone what they were.FWIW it is retarded to stop twice within 15 feet. what's really nuts is I've paid at the registers and then walked all the way through the store to the garden center with my stuff and the greeter never bothered.

Usually I will just put the receipt in my hand when at Wal-Mart/Sam's Club/etc. so I don't have to worry about incidents like this. Yea it sucks they wanna check, but I have just learned to deal with it.

Or, just don't bother dealing with it in the first place (except at sam's, costco, and BJs, where it is, indeed, a condition of shopping there. You agree to the receipt check when you become a member)
