those kubotas are cute little tractors, look like they'd be a lot of fun, oh and if you're serious give sink farm equipment a call in lexington, family owned and VERY good people, usually cheaper than most dealers because of lack of overhead. I've bought about 6 tractors from him over the years.

i've got a ford/new holland 1320 ill let go for $8500. it's got a front loader, box scraper, and bushhog. the engine is a 21hp 3 cyl diesel with only 522 hours on it. the thing is near perfect.

Nice, at least you got a hydrostatic. How much area are you cutting? I hate the plastic belt covers they put on them now.

idk how big it is in terms of acres

here's the front yard

this is the side yard. you can kinda tell where i quit cutting in the pic (i pretty much cut all the grass in this pic too). my neighbor cuts the rest of the grass to the left of where this pic stops.

and i cut what little bit of grass grows in the back.

that's probably ~30K sq.ft. (.75 acre) of grass. not sure how far back the property line is beyond the trees but i'm guessing 1.25-1.5 acre lot.

me neither. my landlord and his family own all of it and there are two single wides on the other side of the small patch of trees. i'm not sure where my lot ends and theirs begins.

That unit needs some Showroom Shine detailing lol. Nice job on the Deere. It is the wrong color however, should be IH red...

On the subject, I am thinking about picking this one up to mow my 30acres.

Simplicity is good too. I love my deere with the 54in cutting deck but its been giving me trouble the past year or so leaving streaks in the cut. I tried adjusting the deck, did not help. Been through 10 or so sets of blades, didnt help. Last set I knocked the paint off the bevel before installing them, no better. This year I have been letting it grow a little more than usual before cutting it my excuse when my neighbor taunts me is that I hope that some of it will root in better and not completely disappear over the winter, but really I am so annoyed by the streaking that it takes the sense of accomplishment out of mowing.

It leaves "streaks" of grass that is not cut at the same level as the rest, and yes, if I cut at a snails pace it helps, but the fact is it originally did NOT have this problem, and now it does. Not UNCUT grass, but grass that is not cut level. If it gets hot enough the next 4 days I should be able to document this in photos but we have had a tremendous amount of rain here over the last 24hours and I would need an outboard to mow the grass at the moment.

I am looking for a zero turn mower with around a 60" deck and around 29hp engine. I have narrowed it down between a toro, hustler, and scag. Leaning toward the hustler based on demoing them last weekend. I think the scag maybe over kill for my needs and it is also almost 4K more than they other 2. The toro has more plastic covers and stuff than they use to which really turns me off. I have used a toro 54" for the past 8 years and it has been great. The new ones seem to have gone down in quality since I purchased the last one. The hustler seems to be in the middle between the scag and toro on price and quality.

Anyone have any experience with these?

The guy that cuts our grass owns a Scag. He has had it for the better part of 15yrs now. Still runs, but nearly everything has been replaced on it and he is constantly having problems with it.

Toro may have plastic covers, but its what almost every high end lawn mantinence crew uses, and the stripes they produce in the grass are amazing. If I were going to buy a zero right now it would be a Toro.

Hustler, nothing bad to say about them. Heavy built, good dealer network in NC, decent price. All around good machine.

It all comes down to where the closest dealer is, cost, and what you are most comforatable on. Plus, whichever one has the cupholder to keep a Bud Light in check while mowing.

So I have had my Deere three seasons now, and still on the original belt and idler pullies, and still working great- except for the streaking issue, which I still can not explain. But over the winter I think I will go ahead and drop the deck and overhaul it anyhow, better safe than sorry.

All have top notch build quality. However, as far as cut quality Scag has the best deck design and cuts the best. Hustler's deck is designed well too and will provide decent results and years of service. Toro's new deck sucks ass. Lots of complaints of it leaving "stringers" or small strips of uncut grass especially cutting Bahia grass. Best value per dollar out of the 3 I'd buy the Hustler.
However, I wouldn't make a decision just yet. You need to go check out a Snapper Pro. Snapper has been bought out by Simplicity who also owns Ferris which is what I have (IS1500Z. that's right, full fucking suspension). The new Snapper Pro is top notch build quality and for 2010 they released a new deck design that is a direct copy of the Scag all for a couple thousand LESS than the 3 you are looking at. These mowers are essentially my mower without the suspension and a new deck.

Picked up this beaut a few days ago...

Bolens
344cc Briggs & Stratton single 13.5hp/13.5tq
Curb Weight: 425lb
38" Deck
6 speed Shift-on-the-Go® transmission

[story_time]
So my 10 year old snapper finally died (it was given to me 6 months ago). After all it's done, it said, "The hell with this life. I'm worn out and tired. Time to retire." First of all, I tried to get the thing to start after sitting about 3 weeks from my last mowing job. The battery had leaked and corroded some wiring. After doing some rewiring (no biggie), frame/rust repair in the battery tray area, and a new battery, I get it running again.

I tried to change the oil but couldn't because the drain plug was stuck on there, and pretty damn good. I get it about halfway out (3 extractor bits later) and find out it's got locktight on the threading! I guess the previous owner had a leak from the plug area and fixed it real good for me So I said screw it, I'll mow my yard and deal with it later.

I get about 75% of my back yard finished and the shift-on-the-go trans blows. No forward gears, just reverse. I'm glad I only had about .05 acres left to mow. The clutch box is a sealed aluminum unit (not worth repairing). I ended up getting $70 for the B&S 13hp motor and $30 for a $25 battery.

So I called and asked a buddy of mine what brand lawn mower I should get for my .5 acre lot and he recommended Bolens or a Yard Machines. He said it might not look like much, but it'll do the job and with good care, it should last just as long if not longer than the Snapper. I definitely didn't want a John Deer 1 series which seemed to be all that was left, but I was able to find a couple Troy Bilts and 2 Bolens at a Lowes. I "upgraded" myself to a Troy Bilt Bronco (42" cut, 20hp Kholer, Hydrostatic trans) since a few people had said that they had been bought out by MTD. It was discounted heavily because of a faulty safety switch which was factory warrantied and replaced. Previous owner couldn't get the mower to go more than 10 yards before it shut off and wouldn't start up again. I took it home and it ran for 5 minutes before the mower shut down. I got a 6' strip cut in my front lawn The thing wouldn't start again. It was a brand new mower, and bypassing the switch that was replaced didn't work. I did some research online and found quite a few people disgruntled with their Bronco having trans and electrical issues so I returned it and got the Bolens. I had to order a bagging kit from the manf. directly, but that's no biggie. I can't wait to start cuttin'.
[/story_time]

RIP Ol' Snapper. you will never be forgotten

(Snapper series 18, which they still sell today )

4 years and 257 hours and it finally broke

Bearing went out on the tensioner pulley the other day, so I am going to just rebuild the entire mower deck. New idler pullies, spindles, blades, belt, tensioner arm, etc comes to about $150. Not bad really.

I lost a spindle about a month ago, not for bearing failure but the threads came off with the nut during a blade change. One of the remaining original spindles has a growl to it so I am going to replace them both and keep the good one as a spare. They are less than $30ea at agri supply.

I figured this would be a good thread as any to resurrect. My family has around 4 acres of land and I want to get a small landscape tractor. Does anyone have experience with these? Budget <$15,000

My top options are
1. LS MT125 with loader and mid-mower - 25hp

2. Kioti CK2510 HST - 25hp

3. Ford 8N - Great looking and cheap, gas engine. I don't know about reliability or parts
