No, intelligence doesn't undermine government. Wealth undermines government, because the individuals in government are self-interested. Nor does intelligence necessarily beget wealth, circumstance begets wealth as much as intelligence.

Actually, I said fuck government and let's see something a bit closer to the meritocratic ideal our nation claims to embrace. Anarcho-capitalism ftw.

Wealth doesn't undermine government, nor does intelligence.

Lack of economic incentive undermines government.

In a modern country where revolution is all-but-impossible, government has virtually no incentive to act efficiently or honestly, and no incentive to decrease its own power and influence. This will be true of virtually any conceivable type of government, except those in countries so small or wealthy (in terms of the average citizen's wealth) that one could easily move away if one does not like that country's policies. A government will continue to receive taxes and votes from its citizens (unless a minimum percentage of required votes is established for election to public office, which is not only impractical for various reasons, but is yet another policy that government has no incentive to enact), regardless of how efficiently they act or how well they act in the best interests of their citizens.

The conclusion is that corruption is essentially a constant within government. Thus, governments should ideally be kept so small that their inherent corruption can affect as few things as possible and waste as little of taxpayers' money as possible.

"Undermine" was a phrase I used to parallel beergotlife's earlier statement and aid in making my point. I like how you quoted and responded to it out of context

Wealth most definitely does influence government towards its own interests, I would hope you can concede that much at least.

If you are using "wealth" to mean "money" in general, then I can agree, but mostly just because money is an acting factor in the lack of economic incentive that I outlined.

I typically take "wealth" to mean "money accumulated to such a large degree that one can live comfortably and without working off of said money and the additional money made through investment", which is only marginally relevant to the discussion at hand.

I consider myself a libertarian, but that doesn't mean I'm going to vote that way. Unless something about the system changes, I don't see how a third party could make it.

im sorry but chemical and radiological castration has already been tried and i dont want to go down that road again

sure that is a heinous crime, but i dont see how chemical castration is going to rehabilitate someone

on the top level, i would expect the urges to molest young children to be psychological, not physical

Oh, I have an idea! Once this passes, let's start cutting the feet off of drunk drivers, so they can't offend again! Or if someone beats their wife, saw off their arms into stumps! Then once everyone in prison is a quadriplegic, the mass extermination can begin!

prison isn't bad enough for some people

why do you think that eugenics is such a horrible notion? is it because china has been doing it for years? why not limit kids to parents that can afford them?

Yes, I am pro choice - so get rid of it if you can't give it a decent upbringing

^ fucking a right

chop off the arms of repeat thieves - i assure you it would reduce the crime
it might suck with the whiny fags for awhile, but they will get over it when they realize that their shit is safe.

^Yes, because writing subjective opinion into law is ALWAYS a great plan!

Seriously, if you don't see how flawed an idea of a government forcing physical alteration upon someone is, even a criminal, you're dangerously insane.

possibly, however, i think that prison should first be a place for confined rehabilitation through psychotherapy et al and if that doesnt work, total confinement from society

i dont think that society should just give up on convicted criminals, especially the first time through the system, maybe a better system can avoid repeat offenders

Pedophilia is generally defined to be a mental disorder. You don't abuse the sick because you're not aware of a cure. Yes, it's an anti-social disorder that necessitates the individual be limited in interaction with healthy society. I encourage they be given the option of VOLUNTARILY undergoing castration in lieu of lengthy behavioral rehabilitation efforts. In fact, considering the epic fail that our prison system is when rehabilitation (its primary objective, let's not forget) is concerned, I wouldn't be surprised if many did opt for this. However, it should never be forced upon them. Also, massive prison reform is necessary.

I think it's funny that some of you think this is the last thing the gop needs. Right now he is the popular choice for 2012 whether its for VP or Presidency. The grassroots campaign is fully underway just the same way as the obama one was in 2004 after that election. Would be a great debate to watch obama vrs Jindal. I really think it will happen whether its 12 or 16'.

Okay, it might not be the worst thing for the GOP.

It'll be the worst thing for the GOP's chances at getting the support of libertarians and many independents.

Then again, the best thing for the GOP would be to actually be conservative again.

all party's politics have loopholes.

it's mostly a matter of what you find most important and you stick to that.

Reagan had it right, no pun intended. The GOP needs to go back to being socially-conservative AND fiscally-conservative to regain support. One without the other has proven to be an epic fail of political will and widespread support.

Everyone should understand that humans are naturally imperfect beings. Therefore, all human ventures will inherently have elements of imperfection as well. This should go without saying. Consequently, the decisions that people make on election-day should take into account this universal truth, and your choices should be based upon intelligent evaluation of the issues, the policies and the vision of the party that you selected.

All people will continue to disagree with each other on the context of each political party’s platforms until the end of time, but I think that we can all agree on one point. A uniformed vote is only slightly better than no vote at all. When you cast your vote, remember the Americans that laid down their lives so that you could live in a free country and voice your opinion. Try to consider the time that you spend researching your candidate as a way of paying tribute to their sacrifice, and never forget that your vote does matter and your diligence in making your decision is reflective of being a patriotic American.
