Does anybody know if the Blu-ray will have 3-D as an option? I know I will need the glass, but I assume that all you would need is the movie encoded in 3-D and the glasses themselves to see this at home. I will at least be getting this on DVD, but I'll go hardcore Blu & 3-D if they offer it. 6/4/2009 9:41:50 AM |

Got back from it. Loved it. Didn't come close to crying, but I was definitely moved by the beginning part.
A couple of things were completely predictable (eg the kid getting the soda cap for his merit badge), but overall I had no clue where this movie was taking me next. 10/10 6/4/2009 2:36:36 PM |

Watched it in 3D with my wife. We held hands through most of it.
Gotta pay the extra money for the 3D though, it's just sooo much better. My favorite part was the tent scene. I was cracking up. It happened to me once too, so I felt his pain (literally). 6/6/2009 11:31:25 PM |

It was good... but I was kind of disappointed. Maybe 7/10... the scene where he saw that his wife had put the new adventures with their life in the book was totally expected. It was gorgeous though.

Saw it, love it.
I've really been enjoying what they've done with 3-D lately. 3-D movies annoyed the crap out of me as a kid, the whole "OMG THEY'RE REACHING OUT AT YOU" thing was kinda lost on me.
I like that they're just making 3-D movies like any other movie and are mostly ignoring that problem.
As for UP, it made my wife cry 3 times (that I saw). But she was still smiling during the movie, so I call that a success for Pixar. 6/7/2009 4:15:41 PM |

the short wasn't that great, but I'd be disappointed if they didn't include it (now that I know they're expected )
I felt like there was potential for lots more scenic jungle stuff (like Incredibles etc) and the story is far-fetched, even for a cartoon (the idea of a hobby adventurist flying the house, the villain's quest, making voice collars for 100s of dogs, etc).
it was touching but I'll I give it a 8/10 (no tears here). I couldn't help but think the entire time "now really... how is he going to eat and keep up his hygiene living on that hunk of rock?" 6/7/2009 8:12:34 PM |

The first 20 or so minutes of up was by far the best thing Pixar has done ever imo.

This was my favorite Pixar thus far. I said this last year for WALL-E too. Why am I so sure of it now? Well, WALL-E had me feeling a little scared afterward. I mean, it was a fun movie, but it also had me thinking too much about comfortable lifestyles and a movie you over analyze is a good movie, but it's not as good as the platinum level for movies: the movie you want to watch every day forever. Up just had me smiling all the time.

i know people are hating on how it isn't realistic (OMG HOW CAN A HOUSE BE LIFTED UP WITH BALLOONS!??!) but i think that misses the entire point of the movie.
i just think the relationships are so great. like that kid. that kid is every kid. maybe a little extreme, but he is. same with the old man. and the dogs were just hilarious. 6/8/2009 12:55:52 AM |

agreed and i will be pissed if it gets nominated for an oscar just because it can. folks- you're not missing anything if you didn't see it
i thought the movie itself was kind of boring and it felt like it was an hour too long, even though it only ran for like 90 something minutes. oh i know what it was- it blew its wad in the first 20 minutes and the rest was just filler. don't bother trying to see it in 3-D; it just makes the screen darker and a little blurry

Saw it last night; loved it. Very touching (I teared up, I'll admit) and very funny. Loved the bird especially. And, true, a dirigible makes any movie better. Doesn't quite overtake my favorite Pixar film (Monsters, Inc.) but it makes top 3. I didn't see the short because we got there late but I don't think we missed but the first minute or two of the film.
The 3D worked really well, but it also made everything kind of dark, which wasn't helped by the fact that the Southpoint theatre is usually too dark anyway. Might check out the 2D version at some point to see the difference in brightness/colors. 6/8/2009 10:35:53 AM |

i guess it wasn't really an argument. just a statement. and yes, i've heard other people (NOT ON TWW OMG) say similar things. so i was just saying. and people got bogged down by the reality (or lack there of i guess) of wall-e, too.

I saw this I guess the first weekend it opened up, in 2D. The short was awesome, IMO, and the first 20 minutes of the movie were so tender and sweet. I definitely got teary, especially at the beginning and end. I loved the combination of the sweet, sensitive beginning and the goofiness of the movie, with the kid and Kevin and Dug.
Quite enjoyed it, even with the "lack of realism". And damn, I loved "Partly Cloudy". 6/9/2009 4:58:53 PM |
