"I gotta tell you, over the summer I was out of work for a medical reason and then laid off. I only worked 4 days total between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Thats a long time, but I could have cared less about returning to work. I wasn't in the least bit bored. I know people say you get restless and want to get back to work. Fuck no, not me If it wasn't for the debt piling up and all the things I couldn't do b/c of lack of money I'd have no problem not working "

well maybe i should try it then... just for a little while... haha.

The best thing that ever happened to me was my first real job i had after graduating ended. Now I am going on 4 years at the job after that and it looks like a lifer.

that's awesome. i feel fortunate to have worked with who i did, just as a contract employee it wasn't going anywhere really. i'm almost glad i got laid off in a way. i was underpaid and under-appreciated, but not motivated enough to do anything about it.

(right after i just said i have all the motivation to get a new job )
i just got complacent.

You made the bulldozers go

Last week, I got laid off on monday. Then re-hired on wednesday. Tuesday, however, I was kinda looking forward to a longer job search. I figured with savings plus unemployment, I had 7-10 months before I had to get something. Oh well. Good luck.

yeah but with a mortgage, etc, I figured it would account for maybe half of monthly bills.

Also, I got a first time home buyers loan. If you lose your job and qualify for unemployment and have made a few payments already in the first two years, you get like 4 months of the mortgage payments delayed and added to the back end of the loan.

no, they just have a ton of work to do, laid off a lot of people, and then another guy quit. I think mostly it was because I was almost as badass as that other guy.

that's crazy. i have a feeling they are going to regret getting rid of all the people they are cutting. we were swamped with work and had limited people as it was. they'll probably be calling me in a month or two, but i'm sure as hell not waiting on them!

I think he was saying he had enough money saved up, plus unemployment, to last awhile...that was the same case with me....and I just really went through the motions of applying (as required).

yeah, but sometimes it is a good thing....you said you wanted to get another job (not contracting) but were too lazy...now...you dont have much of a choice...

I had a 4 month break between jobs... My parents were the ones that keep bothering me about it...lol

so the company you worked for, they just laid off all the contractors? Those are the first to go.

yep. production line contractors were first to go.
they cut all overtime for contracting office personnel.
then a wave of layoffs.

so i saw it coming.

contract employees get paid more than regular employees I have heard (at least the ones that I work with do). However, the bad thing is that they are, of course, contract employees.

^^,^^^ yeah, i didn't have any benefits. no vacation (all no-pay, no-penalty) and no sick days. so it was supposed to pay for that.

unfortunately i got shafted coming out of school since i didn't really know what i was doing. you live, you learn.

contracting can be great as long as you know what you're getting into as far as length of employment and risk are concerned.

he just bought a house last year, he wants to stay in the Raleigh area. I doubt he will have much problem finding a job.

also, when the FBI does the background check, he will not make it.....

if you've never, ever, under any circumstances had any fun that might register on a lie detector test, hit up the FBI. that should be a cool profession
