It's no $0.94/gal, like it was when I got my license in '02. But I'll take it as it is for now...

As much as I am enjoying the cheap gas, I am inclined to agree with that article. If they taxed the shit out of it and kept it relatively expensive (not outrageous like it was a few months ago, but I'm thinking somewhere around 3 bucks a gallon), use would go down as people would be more likely to try and limit consumption.

Yes, let's tax gas while we are in the midst of a bad recession. Brilliant!

I dont understand crude oil prices vs gas prices...when crude oil was at $47ish a barrel, gas prices here were around $1.53. Crude oil continued to drop all the way down to around $37ish a barrel with no change in gas prices...however, crude oil went back up to around $47ish a barrel this week and gas went up 7 cents...I'm sure it's a lot of complicated shit I dont understand.

^^^Here's my take on it:

Selling at a loss or reduced margins is more of a motivation to change one's prices than selling at inflated margins.

The cost of the next refilling influences prices pretty much immediately when the motion is upward, whereas the inflated margins buffer somewhat against competition when the motion is downward.

Fuck. New car goes 500 miles on a tank but that's because it has a 21 gallon tank. I shouldn't complain about 25mpg mixed driving on midgrade, but I will. Can't wait until the SO swaps in the 5 speed and changes the differential.

Do you need a truck? See if you can trade it in and get a used car. Or get a motorcycle. I'll be driving mine more now that it's summer. 60mpg isn't bad from a bike I paid $500 for.

the mazda 6 is 100% econobox; ford fusion, camry, accord, etc. they aren't luxury, they aren't performance, they aren't utility, they're economy cars.

A full sized car with 184 hp 2.5 L i4 engine is a fucking econobox car. Your car is a geared toward fuel mileage with its weak ass engine. Your car is a fucking joke compared to a Toyota Camry. 7.6 s with the "top" engine for 0-60? Nigga, get the fuck out of here with that garbage. Your edgy exterior is all talk with no bite.

Way to make a strong statement..bringing up a Camry as a performance option. (No matter what engine it has)

By definition..the 6 isn't an econobox.

""The typical econobox is a subcompact car, usually with a three-door hatchback format with transverse engine mounting and front-wheel drive, to maximize interior space despite overall small dimensions. "
I never claimed the 6 was fast or sporty..but good on you for rolling straight up my asshole with that Camry bs. I'm seriously impressed with your knowledge on cars and especially your googling skills

Turn on speed channel and you can enjoy the beauty of the econobox 6 racing around a track for the next couple hours..

1. You are citing wikipedia as a source... Let me go edit that page and include mazda 6's for yah...

2. You do realize they show everything on speed channel... if it has wheels and an engine, somewhere in the world, there's a cup series of it. Just look at touring championships over in EU with normal cars, its been insanely popular for decades.

I'm going to agree with Smoothcrim, Kurtis636 and merbig. The mazda 6 may not be a subcompact car, but its an economical and affordable car to own and operate. Nothing more, nothing less.

3. If you want more GROUNDED feeling... take the wheels off...

I was citing the V6 engine, which is about the same price as the Mazda 6 with the 2.5L I4, both of which are the highest output engines available. The Camry does 0-60 sub 6 seconds and the Mazda 6 is over 7.5 seconds... At least you'll get a few extra MPG.

I make a strong statement, one that stings. The Mazda 6 is a sexy looking car. I will give you that. But it's all bark and no bite. When asked to deliver, my Kia Forte Koup outperforms it, which admittedly isn't the fastest car either with the 2.4L I4.

From a manufacturer touting a racing background, I expect a $30k car to do a little better...

Yeah, I watch Grand-Am too. And certainly you're not talking about the same Mazda 6 that participates in the GX class, that has struggled tremendously on reliability, and the only other car it competes against is the Porsche Cayman. Take Detroit, it was 1 Porsche Cayman against 2 Mazdas. They're in the slowest class too. Competing in the slowest class that consists of 3 cars total is nothing to brag about. It would be like me bragging about Toyota Camry's racing against Ford Fusions and Chevy SS's at 200 MPH on an oval on Fox, Speed, TNT and ESPN... It's no testament to the car itself and what you can get...
