Del Rio is still with Jags, and looking like he is bringing in Carolina Defense (Possibly going to a 3-4). ESPN and other sites have whispered rumors that he bringing Trgovac to be D-Coordinator and probably try for JP since he wants to be in 3-4.
I am looking at this as a positive, we are going to have a chance to re-tool and re-program our D for real

Why not go to a 3-4 ourselves? With the depth/talent we have at LB, it seems like a good fit. That and our d-line sucks balls.

Panthers hire Colts' Meeks as defensive coordinator
The Carolina Panthers have hired Ron Meeks, formerly with the Indianapolis Colts, as their defensive coordinator.
Meeks replaces Mike Trgovac, who told the team last week he would not return next season. Trgovac had spent seven years as defensive coordinator under John Fox.
"This is a great opportunity," Meeks said in a news release from the Panthers. "I have followed the Panthers from my involvement in football and they have done a great job over the years. I expect to continue that success and will try to improve on what has been done."
Meeks spent seven seasons as defensive coordinator with Indianapolis, five times finishing in the top seven in the league in points allowed.
Meeks spent seven seasons as defensive coordinator with Indianapolis, five times finishing in the top seven in the league in points allowed. The Colts' 4-3 defense was seventh in points allowed in 2008 (18.6) and 11th in yards allowed (310.9).
"We are very pleased to add Ron to our coaching staff as defensive coordinator," Fox said in a release "He is an outstanding teacher, who has enjoyed great success as a coordinator in the league and brings a strong background of coaching championship defenses."
Meeks, 54, was a defensive assistant in Dallas in 1991, then secondary coach in Cincinnati fromm 1992-96 and in Atlanta from 1997-99. He also spent a year each in Washington (2000) and St. Louis (2001) before going to Indianapolis.
Meeks is a native of Jacksonville, Fla., and had college stints at Arkansas State (1984), Miami (1986-87), New Mexico State (1988), and Fresno State (1989-1990) before joining the Cowboys.

^^eh, I think you're going to hell if you insult Jerry Richardson right now in the state he's in.
plus, it's in the PSL contract that you are obligated to buy playoff tickets. Obligated. I know it's kind of a dick move, but still. the panthers are within their rights to do it.

Honestly the psl's dont bother me. i'm more concerned with the team. i think we need to be more focused on rebuilding our defense because it has fallen of in recent years. Meeks has always been a guy that had defenses which don't give up a lot of points (a lot like the style of Fox). If the d can keep the points down, our offense can still score plenty of points by running the ball and playaction (which is something jake is a lot better at). 2/1/2009 12:23:06 PM |

I can only imagine what Peppers agent was thinking during that Q&A. He's a great athlete, but I'm convinced Peppers has the IQ of a turd.
He played well though. Beason was solid ... in fact, Collinsworth hyped Beason for a long time during the 2nd half. Smitty made some big plays. Gross blocked. Pretty good showing for the Panthers 2/8/2009 8:41:58 PM |

It's kind of a shame that Peppers can have an interception and a sack against the best players in the NFL. If only he played this hard all the time I would really be upset that he is leaving. Now I'm looking towards another good 1st round pick by the Panthers. 2/8/2009 10:45:48 PM |

We'll have to wait until the 2nd round this year. The Panthers traded their 2009 1st round pick to Philly for Jeff Otah. 2/9/2009 1:07:20 PM |

We will get a first round pick for Pep even though it will probaly be middle to late in the 1st round. I'm really thinking that we will get a 1st and a 4th, slightly less than the Chiefs got for Allen last year. 2/9/2009 5:26:09 PM |

So, franchise tagging Peppers is almost a definite now, what about Gross? Wouldn't you rather franchise the guy who wants to be here?
This is of course assuming that neither player has a long term deal settled upon by the start of FA. 2/10/2009 8:11:46 AM |

Just so you know, franchise tag is better used on someone who doesn't want to be there, but still has trade value.
If the guy wants to be here, and we want him here, why franchise him when we can sign him to a multi-year contract? 2/11/2009 1:10:53 AM |
