that you can either knowingly blindly support them, or you can get mad and think they give a shit about your differing opinions, even though they dont careits like when a contingent of people were all like "omg impeach bush" and getting all fired up about it...they chose to not blindly support bush...but it didnt do any good whatsoever[Edited on January 20, 2009 at 4:48 PM. so how will you support the president?what about the people who said "omg impeach clinton" or "omg impeach nixon"these things mattered. what the public though mattered.or "omg get out of vietnam" or "omg let black people vote"just because you find it easier to be jaded about democracy, as part of a collective, the will of the people matters.[Edited on January 20, 2009 at 4:49 PM. the will of the people by and large only does something at election time...this time around, it elected obamaif bush was as bad a president as many of you would say, and he still served out 2 full terms, how are you going to convince someone that writing a letter is going to make any kind of difference about anything?tell me something the will of the people made happen lately (aside from actual elections)[Edited on January 20, 2009 at 4:53 PM. i have a feeling that, for instance, net neutrality wouldn't be on the radar of any politicians without letters and emails from constituents.more on the topic of inauguration, it's been suggested that the choosing of the gay ?bishop? for the events on sunday is only in reaction to the huge outcry from the gay and lesbian community about rick warren.
1/20/2009 4:59:13 PM
eh, you might be righti still think by and large the politicians dont give a damn what you think unless you've got money or other benefits for them

1/20/2009 5:40:34 PM
wow the comments on that blog post are even better than the post itself. The fucking chief justice misplaced one word in the oath and these bitches are all yelling CONSPIRACY!fucking crazies.
1/20/2009 5:49:56 PM
I think it was pretty scary that Joe Biden was technically president for about 15 minutes
1/20/2009 5:52:20 PM
no he wasn'tbush was still president
1/20/2009 5:53:12 PM
no he wasn't, Bush's presidency ended at Noon. Obama wasn't sworn in until around 12:15
1/20/2009 5:54:05 PM
when was that? because technically at noon obama was president regardless of if he had taken the oath yet. before then biden was only sworn in as vice president, and Bush was still president.
1/20/2009 5:54:31 PM
I SAID TECHNICALLY.Bush's presidency ended at noonBiden had already been sworn in, making him effective president until Obama took the oath.
1/20/2009 5:55:25 PM
1/20/2009 5:55:49 PM
1/20/2009 5:55:55 PM
no it didn't, because technically, obama was president at noon.
1/20/2009 5:56:14 PM
Proof? From what I've heard and read Obama was president at noon regardless of when he actually takes the oath...
1/20/2009 5:56:28 PM
so you don't think that Obama needs to take the oath of office to be president?
1/20/2009 5:56:39 PM
manbefore i went and shoveled the driveway, this thread was good and stupidnow it's just bad and stupid
1/20/2009 5:57:03 PM
technically dick cheney has been president since 1961
1/20/2009 5:57:05 PM
^ lol, trew
1/20/2009 5:57:19 PM
1/20/2009 5:57:34 PM
no, because its law. at noon on january 20th, the president elect becomes president regardless of having taken the oath.same for the VP.
1/20/2009 5:57:40 PM
so why take the oath then?
1/20/2009 5:57:55 PM
He does but should something happen needing his attention between noon and whenever he takes the oath he would act in as president......He could just break some rules and get away with it. ha
1/20/2009 5:58:16 PM
why have the whole goddamn thing?tradition.
1/20/2009 5:58:28 PM
you got me, swearing on a bible seems like a waste of paper
1/20/2009 5:59:02 PM
And I am not arguing, because I don't understand the law. I am really just questioning for my own knowledge.Katie Couric made the comment that Joe Biden was president so they needed to get the show on the road. I was curious if that was true
1/20/2009 5:59:07 PM
But the Constitution says they are president at noon no matter who took the oath first (if at all).[Edited on January 20, 2009 at 5:59 PM. Reason : wow slow ass post from me]

I AM THROWING THE RED FLAGI WOULD LIKE THE INAUGURATION REVIEWED
1/20/2009 6:00:16 PM
it's like no one read my post that clearly ends this debate
1/20/2009 6:00:52 PM
All that matters is that I win this thread.
1/20/2009 6:01:22 PM
there's no debate, i clearly stated that I don't know what the fuck I am talking about
1/20/2009 6:01:25 PM
Just know you only get 2 red flags (3 if you win both).....choose wisely sir.
1/20/2009 6:01:26 PM
I will need confirmation that the book used was IN FACT a regulation bible
1/20/2009 6:09:10 PM
lols it looked old as hell, and the font must have been 38pt cause it was a thick bitch (no idea how true any of that is)
1/20/2009 6:10:49 PM
nah, that was the one Biden usedthe one Obama used wasn't nearly that big. It was Lincoln's bible
1/20/2009 6:11:45 PM
I wonder why they use different books?
1/20/2009 6:12:27 PM
