Actually, Obama writes a good portion of his own speeches. They said before his inauguration address that he pretty much completely rewrote the speech that his speechwriter had prepared for him.

that you can either knowingly blindly support them, or you can get mad and think they give a shit about your differing opinions, even though they dont care

its like when a contingent of people were all like "omg impeach bush" and getting all fired up about it...they chose to not blindly support bush...but it didnt do any good whatsoever

so how will you support the president?

what about the people who said "omg impeach clinton" or "omg impeach nixon"

these things mattered. what the public though mattered.

or "omg get out of vietnam" or "omg let black people vote"

just because you find it easier to be jaded about democracy, as part of a collective, the will of the people matters.

the will of the people by and large only does something at election time...this time around, it elected obama

if bush was as bad a president as many of you would say, and he still served out 2 full terms, how are you going to convince someone that writing a letter is going to make any kind of difference about anything?

tell me something the will of the people made happen lately (aside from actual elections)

i have a feeling that, for instance, net neutrality wouldn't be on the radar of any politicians without letters and emails from constituents.

more on the topic of inauguration, it's been suggested that the choosing of the gay ?bishop? for the events on sunday is only in reaction to the huge outcry from the gay and lesbian community about rick warren.

eh, you might be right

i still think by and large the politicians dont give a damn what you think unless you've got money or other benefits for them

It would be best for the country (program) if they succeeded at their job. But you know it's not going to happen, so you would like for them step down or get fired so they don't continue to flush the country (program) down the shitter."

people wanted to fire Coach K from Duke after a few years...many times, before he won a Super Bowl, Steelers fans wanted to run Cowher out...turns out the fans were shortsighted morons

so i'll be a fan of our program regardless, and always SUPPORT the coach...and i can tell you the program isnt going to come to me with suggestion for a new coach because i'm not donating millions of dollars

I think it was pretty scary that Joe Biden was technically president for about 15 minutes

when was that?

because technically at noon obama was president regardless of if he had taken the oath yet.

before then biden was only sworn in as vice president, and Bush was still president.

I SAID TECHNICALLY.

Bush's presidency ended at noon
Biden had already been sworn in, making him effective president until Obama took the oath.

The will of the people doesn't even always decide elections. Otherwise, Bush would have never been in office.

"While Article 2 of the the United States Constitution states that the president must take the oath before he enter office it is likely that this would be superseded by the 20th Amendment[8] which states that the terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January and the terms of their successors shall then begin. This would therefore allow the president to assume the duties of the office without requiring the oath to be administered, however this has never been tested as all presidents have taken an oath."

k, thanks

no, because its law.

at noon on january 20th, the president elect becomes president regardless of having taken the oath.

same for the VP.

He does but should something happen needing his attention between noon and whenever he takes the oath he would act in as president......

He could just break some rules and get away with it. ha

And I am not arguing, because I don't understand the law. I am really just questioning for my own knowledge.

Katie Couric made the comment that Joe Biden was president so they needed to get the show on the road. I was curious if that was true

But the Constitution says they are president at noon no matter who took the oath first (if at all).
