Yeah, that truck is not going to be used for the kind of shit that his Diesel is used for. He might tow with it, but he's not going to fill it up with a bunch of lumber and shit, so that carpet seems fine to me. I like it honestly, it seems better for putting fragile objects in the back.
Also note that he bought it recently and it already had everything you see on it. He hasn't touched it at all yet, but it will probably end up with forced induction at some point (Most likely a supercharger). ]7/30/2009 9:47:38 AM |

He got that SRT-10 for a good price. They're so much cheaper than Vipers it's ridiculous (At least his was).
Lots of people bring this up to him. He always says the same thing, which is that he simply doesn't enjoy cars as much as trucks for some reason. The truck is extremely impressive in terms of braking, acceleration, cornering and how composed the chassis remains when going through turns at speed on bumpy roads and shit. It was like being in a massive sports car and it was very cool. Like I said, it's one of the only trucks I've ever really been jealous of.
He also already has a truck that he uses for 100% truck purposes, so the SRT-10 is basically his toy truck. Plus, he buys ridiculously expensive things on a regular basis and if he wanted a fast car he'd have one, it's as simple as that. ] 7/30/2009 12:02:05 PM |

Yeah, like I said, he didn't actually put that carpet in there. Hell, the only reason it really even can have carpet back there is because it has that rear lid, which I like quite a bit and I guess it might help some aerodynamically.
When you have a truck that you use for truck purposes, your other sporty truck can afford to have some bling son! Plus, I actually do see the carpet being useful in some circumstances, you've got to think of the bed of his SRT-10 as a larger version of a car trunk basically. Since the lid is on there, objects that are larger than the volume of the bed simply wont fit without leaving the lid or the back open. Plus, if he needed to move an object like that he'd use his other truck. I really only foresee things like luggage, firearms and smaller more fragile items being carried in that truck's "trunk" son. ] 7/30/2009 12:12:46 PM |

actually it was a joint venture for the medium duty trucks, designed by gm, and when gm sold their 50% share in 2006, they kept the duramax manufacturing
so, tell me again, what part of cummins does dodge own? much less have any part in design 8/9/2009 5:37:52 PM |

^^errr... not quite. a few relevant facts:
-actually, gm gave up it's majority stake in dmax (the name of the joint venture) in 2003. it was just the remaining stake that was sold in 2006.
-the engine that prompted the formation of dmax, the 6h, was most certainly NOT a gm design. isuzu brought everything to the table with their existing experience/designs. gm's share and success in the diesel truck market was jack shit until they decided to pillage yet another piece of isuzu.
-at best, gm's primary involvement was to provide funding and a production facility. all of the critical design and engineering is credited to isuzu, even the lmm. gm simply gained the rights to the designs after the split. just because they own them doesn't mean they contributed anything noteworthy to their existence.
-the differences in where and how each of the big 3 have sourced their light duty diesels are in areas of business and finance only. each formed a relationship on some level with an outside company to provide them with a product. none of them have had any real hand in design and engineering. that appears to be changing now with news of gm's lmk and ford's scorpion, but i guess we'll see.
-navistar and international are one and the same. they were never even separate companies. navistar is just a name ih adopted sometime in the mid 80's iirc.
-lets also not forget how gm went to navistar shortly after the isuzu split in an attempt to involve them in their diesel engine program, as well as offload gmc to them in a desperate effort to cut costs and create revenue. in fact, a deal was struck in 2007, but it fell through. i think the official reason was cited as changes in the market, but no doubt navistar's legal troubles played a big role as well. 8/9/2009 8:49:25 PM |

medium/heavy duty navistar =/= light duty, apples to oranges, if you are comparing a topkick to a f350, then well, no
also, navistar went after gm's medium duty trucks, because ford was not working out, you got that backwards

still produced at gm's factory in moraine
Quote : | "lets not forget the LMK, the groundbreaking torque monster aimed at the 1/2 ton and suv market, pwns jeep's half ass attempt at an anemic diesel" |
and lets not forget IH went belly up in 86, sold off most of its holdings, and kept the IH name under the new company navistar for truck engine and chassis, and formed a venture with ford in 2001, to rebage a shittier design under navistar, built in fuckin mexico, so they could ditch it if it went bad, which it did

i never said the 6h was related to any of the subsequent duramax's. i said it wasn't gm's design. you indicated that when dmax (as in the company) was formed, the first engine produced was a gm design. it wasn't, and neither were any of the others. if anything, the 6h was MORE isuzu than the v8 duramax engines since their success in the diesel market is based on the traditional inline configuration.
Quote : | "medium/heavy duty navistar =/= light duty, apples to oranges, if you are comparing a topkick to a f350, then well, no" |
again, not even what i said. gm went to navistar to discuss them taking over LIGHT DUTY diesel production. since nothing formal ever materialized, it's not really known whether that meant turning over the duramax to them, or if navistar would be supplying something of its own.
Quote : | "also, navistar went after gm's medium duty trucks, because ford was not working out, you got that backwards" |
no, it's definitely not backwards. as we all know, gm has been in financial crisis for years. this was one of several unsuccessful attempts to sell off the gmc brand. an agreement was even reached with navistar, it was just never finalized.
as far as ford is concerned, navistar handling the production of their medium duty line has actually worked out quite well. the problems have primarily been over the problems with the 6.0 and 6.4 powerstrokes, and ford having to absorb the financial burden. in addition to the large amount of warranty claims, ford ended up buying back something like 500-600 trucks.
Quote : | " relationship =/= owning" |
which is exactly what i alluded to, as well as owning =/= to designing or engineering. i'm trying to understand what's impressive about gm owning the privileges to something they got in a business deal? if dodge bought the rights to their cummins engines or ford bought the rights to the powerstroke, would you credit dodge and ford with their design? i wouldn't. the only light duty truck diesels gm can be credited with designing/engineering were those produced under detroit diesel, since that was a company they started from scratch way back in the 30's or 40's or some shit. lord knows we don't want to talk much about those engines, though... talk about fail.
Quote : | "still produced at gm's factory in moraine" |
again, so what? just because people adopt a kid doesn't mean it wasn't someone else that did the fucking.
Quote : | "formed a venture with ford in 2001, to rebage a shittier design under navistar, built in fuckin mexico, so they could ditch it if it went bad, which it did" |
huh? if you're referring to blue diamond (yes, based in mexico, as are plenty of gm's operations), nothing has been ditched. that relationship/joint venture is still alive and well. they're also only badged and internationals and fords. navistar engines (i.e. the powerstroke) have always been produced in the u.s. in indiana, kentucky, or alabama.
don't get it twisted, the duramax is a damn fine engine, and gm makes a very nice truck to put it in. i don't disagree that navistar has made some serious junk. in short, all i'm trying to say here is lets keep it real as far as who gets credit for what.
^^definitely, i'm just a fan of all things automotive. sure, i've got my personal preferences on what i like/dislike, but i try to make it a point to not let it affect my objectivity or my desire to learn about different things. i do get a kick out of giving you guys a hard time over your precious duramaxes though.
