In regards to American freedoms taken for granted, I was reading just this week about the multitudes of Westerners(and other foreigners) in Dubai who can't pay their mortgages leaving their cars at the airport and fleeing the emirates to avoid debtors prison. Not exactly the fully westernized beacon of light in the Middle East that it portrays itself as. Of course, don't say that there: insulting Dubai is a crime punishable by $270,000 fine.

Of course, we have debtors prison here in the US, but only if you don't pay the government.

glad to hear you're still employed, especially with a child on the way. I know it's never a good feeling to be called in/lectured by the higher-ups of an organization, and that (if it's anything like it is over here) university politics are a strange beast.

WTF man... you don't know anything about us except for what I say here. She is British and she is at her parents'. I have my ticket ready and am ready to fly at a minute's notice. EDD is March 20, a day after my birthday! I wish I could be there, or that she didn't have to go, but I have to work, you know Oh, and she had to go because of stupid draconian laws here. I will go for the delivery... I just hope I don't miss it. And then when she has a passport and visa for the baby, she will be back, hopefully within 20-30 days of delivery. I will be a sad puppy here missing my baby and my babe

hey, trapezius, im really glad you didnt get in trouble or lose your job. i know how stressful that is especially when you have a family to consider. I hope your wife and child are safe and comfortable, and you can join them soon.

as to what happened to hooksaw, i've concluded that a lot of his problems were self-inflicted. the threats htat made, were not entirely credible, and would never have been an issue in the first place if he didnt broadcast the fact that he was an NCSU teaching assistant, and try to lord it over many people, in the first place.

but there is a lesson to be learned. if you're going to be conflictual online, as many of us are, giving your employer's information and other personal contact info is probably not wise.

like it or not, that's the reality.
