I think if Seth Curry will come to State, we should give him a scholarship.
A few reasons
First, Rivals listed him as a 3*
http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=60019&Sport=2
that's pretty good, and we all know how kids who don't play AAU can greatly be hurt in the assessment of their ranking. It was clear that it affected Stephen, and it affected Seth.
Next, for all the people who said he played against shitty competition. Sure, he did. But it's not like John Wall or C.J. Leslie exactly played ACC teams every night either (it's scary how many games they lost with Bishop Daniels on their team too). We at least saw Seth against ACC competition and he dominated. I think Seth would be a great player to have on the wolfpack and can make a great contribution. Also a commitment like this would def helps get Leslie back.
I would give the scholarship to Curry before I gave it to Wall (oh boy I'm waiting for the trolling here).
Anyways just my two cents. 3/25/2009 9:18:50 PM |

Yes, that'll probably be quoted for the duration of this thread, but hypothetically (of course), there's a scholarship for both of them, correct?3/25/2009 9:24:07 PM |

yeah but if you gave it to Curry, you'd have one left and do you give it tot he big or to Wall. I'd give it to the first who claimed it.

I just think a skillful player who can contribute for more than one year will be a great asset. I"m still afraid wall will be good for a year and then our PG situation will be shaky again.

You can win without bigs, you can't win without guards. Period.
I'd be skeptical about him coming here, but he would have to sit for a year, we'd get 3 seasons with him almost for sure, and he wouldn't have to be the main guy with Brown and Harrow. As a matter of fact, I think I'll shit my pants if I see those 3 on the floor together with Tracy and Howell locking down the 4/5 positions. w00t. 3/25/2009 9:27:39 PM |

That's why I'd make sure there was a scholarship for him. Because in two years we can have a nasty line up.
Anyways, my post was more just defending him against all the people who think he's shitty. Not about whether we want him or Wall.

Who's "the big" you refer to?
Again, hypothetically (of course, because this will never happen), but if we could pick up both JW and SC, that would benefit the team much more than picking up any "big-man" we might still catch in '09.
And even if we got only one of them, we'd have an extra scholly for next year.
(We'll have javi, harrow, brown, and mays to run the point in '10.)
V for this thread's sake, I'd take JW & SC, or just one and him, or any one of them really. We've already got a good '09 class.

Curry looks smooth as hell, but not very quick. I'm not sure he'd be able to penetrate much in the ACC. He's got a great, great shot though. Kind of reminds me of Fells ... minus the brainfarts. 3/25/2009 10:31:50 PM |

Trust me I know my sports more than 99% of the population.
Sorry for being negative, it comes from 23 years of NCSU dedication.
But anyhow, I am hearing from some people that Duke is the early rumor for Curry.

We need a pure point guard. One who can run the offense and set up other people. We don't need another scorer. However, I'll take whatever good players we can get. 3/26/2009 1:59:05 AM |

In 2010 we will have Harrow running the point, Curry at the 2, Brown/Wood at the 3, Leslie at 4 and Howell at 5 (not to mention upperclassmen like Javi, CJ Williams, Julius Mays, Tracy Smith, and Johnny Thomas)... don't forget potentially Wall at point too. 3/26/2009 3:15:27 AM |

yes. he lead all freshmen in scoring last year and helped Liberty beat teams they had no business beating like UVA and George Mason, not too mention very close losses to Clemson, DePaul, and Saint Louis.
at 6-3 180 he'd play SG for us. bottom line is that we will probably have to start running a look similar to what Villanova and Marquette have run in recent years by forgetting positions and putting your best players on the floor, even if that means you run 3 guards in the lineup. it would make us more athletic and able to run easier, but potentially hurt us against teams with big lineups. 3/26/2009 8:13:50 AM |

Au contraire, I beleive we could use another scorer, especially in the backcourt. (i mean, who do we have now that are "scorers"? Smith? Potentially Brown?)

This sounds gravy and all but Wall and Leslie are not coming so just be ready for it.
Harrow/Curry/Brown would be suffice for me with senior Tracy Smith and soph Richard Howell inside.3/26/2009 9:47:28 AM |

Quote : | "Any guesses on where he is headed? There are a couple interesting potential legacy destinations: Davidson (replace his brother) or Virginia Tech (his father’s alma mater–helping Seth Greenberg save some face and get in the NCAA tournament, but that bridge may have been burned). Or will Seth go to another big-name program? There are plenty of other programs that could use a guy who averaged over 20 PPG as a freshman and averaged 25 PPG on 55% FG in 2 games against ACC opponents (Clemson and Virginia) this year. I would think he would want to stay relatively close to home (Charlotte area) and be in a starring role at a place where he could take over in a year so I would think that would exclude a place like UNC or Duke, but I could see him at Wake Forest or NC State (potentially saving Sidney Lowe’s job) particularly since all of their current stars leaving by then. " |
Sid: Man, if you don't come here and make it look like I know what I am doing, Imma be out on the streets.
Seth/Wall: I don't want that kind of pressure, Imma go somewhere else.
Quote : | "NC State: This would be fairly close to home and at a big-name program albeit one that has fallen a few notches since they let Herb Sendek go. This would have to be a huge addition for a program that has fallen to the #4 program in the state (possibly lower) and could save Lowe’s job. " |

I would think that if he came here he wouldn't be the go to guy so that 3 point percentage would improve a little. He wouldn't have a green light from half court since by that point we would have scorers in Tracy, Brown, Harrow, etc...
I don't see how this could be a bad thing, but whoever wrote that article about it "saving sidney lowe's job" needs to suck a fat cock and get real. Seth ain't that good. Lorenzo Brown is already going to save Lowe's job, and if he doesn't Harrow will. 3/26/2009 11:12:51 AM |

Honestly, I think Curry would be a huge get for us and I think we have a great chance to land him. He instantly brings "name" recognition back to the program, he can flat out score and he's a good kid...
Bring him aboard... please. 3/26/2009 11:17:48 AM |
