The combination of Seidenberg being out and Kaberle potentially going to the KHL just means we can afford to reward Cole with a 4 or 5 year deal at 6 mil a season. 6/22/2009 2:03:32 PM |

I'd rather them use the money that they would be using on Seidenberg to sign a new player rather than giving Cole any sort of raise. He was pretty much useless in the playoffs. I'll be sad to see Seidenberg go. 6/22/2009 3:33:36 PM |

Quote : | "Rutherford said a healthy Frantisek Kaberle could be a replacement for Seidenberg. Kaberle, who has a $2.2 million salary, missed 25 games because of injuries and was a healthy scratch in 15 of the last 17 games of the regular season.
"He's a useful player, a no-maintenance player," Rutherford said. "If he has a good training camp, he should fit himself into the lineup."
There has been speculation Kaberle might play next season in Russia, but Rutherford said Kaberle, in his exit interview after the season, said he wants to stay with the Hurricanes. " |

A part of me hopes JR isn't being truthful.
A part of me hopes Frank does come to camp and return to form because I still like him a lot. We need size, though, not a small offensive minded defenseman. 6/23/2009 9:56:08 PM |

I still find it very hard to believe that Chad LaRose won't be back. I think JR is using the press as a negotiating tactic here as he has done in the past.
Cole, on the other hand... I have no problem if he walks. 6/25/2009 2:33:30 PM |

we got Brandon Sutter and Zach Boychuk coming up next year, no worry. Personally, I feel that both Cole and Larose shouldn't get anything more than 2 Mil/year. We still have to save money to sign Ward next year. 6/25/2009 3:55:26 PM |

I just learned that Stu Grimson completed his law degree at my old school (U of Memphis) not long ago and he's now a lawyer in Nashville.

Put it in Greensboro or Winston-Salem and I'll get season tickets.

he's a frenchy who can blast the puck (95.7 mph), has some skill and supposedly will finish hits and park in front of the net. I hope to all hell that he turns out better than Ashton. 6/27/2009 10:55:30 AM |

For what it's worth I did not want us to draft Ashton, so I guess that's a positive. The 2nd round this morning was painful though watching so many players I wanted that we could have had go off the board, some to division rivals.
Brian Dumoulin seems like a pretty good pick in the 2nd. 6/27/2009 10:59:13 AM |

Well obviously I can only go by what I read on the interwebs, but a lot of scouts say he doesn't use his size and doesn't work hard sometimes.
Poor puck control, zero vision, and no playmaking ability. He seems like a guy with way too much bust potential. 6/27/2009 11:10:15 AM |

Mattias Lindstrom in the third. Sweet pick. A huge Swedish winger. Yes, we actually overcame our fear of Europeans for that one. 6/27/2009 11:14:52 AM |

Matt Kennedy taken in the 5th. I know nothing about him but he is another big dude. Right winger. Had a big year for the Guelph Storm and then played 4 games on a tryout in the AHL with Syracuse.
Good stuff with Dumoulin:
Quote : | "I’m just happy,” Dumoulin said, wearing his bright red Hurricanes jersey. “I watched the series between them and the Bruins and it was an awesome series to watch, and Carolina won it, so now I’m one of the biggest Carolina fans there is. I’m happy to be part of the Hurricanes organization." |
