I'm very uptight. And I scour the board for grammar mistakes to make myself feel better. I've made mistakes myself, and I've edited posts. I've also made mistakes I didn't notice.
I don't bump this thread every time somebody makes a simple error, but when someone makes the same mistake twice in one post (on such a simple set of words) I do bump it. I'd say that's consistent misuse. U MAD?
Do you think teachers are uptight assholes too? If I can help someone learn something they should have learned in grade school, maybe I'm helping them out.

do you think a teacher is going to be checking my tww posts?
i love how you think you are "helping" though, nice touch
you might want to consider the error rate per # of lines of text produced... and the source you are looking at for errors. (the internet) ] 11/1/2009 6:38:55 PM |

snirk, i don't think he actually is one, just sounds like one when he's 'helping' others with their grammar mistakes 11/1/2009 7:04:26 PM |

I did put a lesson in here (see first post) instead of just calling people out. 11/1/2009 7:10:58 PM |

I don't know, if you're going to put your neck out on the line and call people out over basic grammar, why not just cover the whole spectrum? The correct use of "it", "its" and "it's" is perhaps the most ignored facet of the English language on this board that you did not choose to include, and most adults still don't know how to correctly use the words. Hell, content would be far more pleasant if people just capitalized and punctuated sentences.
However, to what extent you police is really up to you. I'm an English student, and I too have a passion for language, but the medium through which we are communicating has standards set by the majority, and I wouldn't press to place expectations on something you shouldn't expect to comply. Ideally everyone would use English appropriately, and I have no doubt they can, but they choose not to due to the perceived causality of technological mediums, a popular consensus in today's society. Yes, I agree with you that as a forum for a university we should uphold at least a certain degree of content, but in comparison to a lot of other websites and forums, the general population here isn't doing too bad.
I like to show by example, not meticulously nag people about their errors. Simply dogging everyone over semantics draws attention away from the bigger issues about content and attitude, rather than to help reinforce a person's desire to appear coherent. 11/1/2009 8:15:00 PM |

They played Blink 182 on the Sirius station I was listening to today and it said the name of the song was 'Damnit'
Never mind the fact that that's not proper English, that's simply not the name of the song.
