Dixon Figuring Out New Path Premium Story

North Carolina signee Justin Dixon was informed this week that he will not be able to attend Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy. Now, he is looking into other options.

“Obviously, it’s not what I wanted, but I’m waking up every morning,” Dixon said. “Everything is still great.

“Wherever I go, I’m going to ball. I love competition – I love to compete.”

Dixon, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker from Smithfield (N.C.) Smithfield-Selma, signed with UNC in February. After failing to qualify, he looked to prep at Hargrave. That, however, is no longer an option.

Anthony Barbour, Dixon’s high school coach, is leading the search for alternate destinations, including junior colleges and enrolling in a Division I college as a partial qualifier.

“To be honestly with you, I don’t really know right now,” Dixon said of where he’ll end up. “I have no idea. My coach is looking into some schools – we have some schools in mind right now that I might head out to. I have a few schools I’m looking at right now, but I’m going to let my coach handle everything.”

The only school Dixon has personally spoken to is East Carolina, which has offered Dixon the opportunity to enroll as a partial qualifier.

If faced with the choice between the JuCo route and enrolling at East Carolina as a partial qualifier, Dixon says he’d definitely head to ECU.

“First of all, I could start my college career – I’d just have to sit out a year,” Dixon said. “I would go ahead and be on campus [and] get my credits in. I’d come out my sophomore year (freshman on the field, but sophomore in the classroom). And I’d still have four years to play ball.”

Additionally, Dixon is turned off by the proximity of most junior colleges to his home.

“If you really ask me, [most junior colleges] are too far for me,” Dixon said. “But I’m going to let my coach handle that situation – whatever he thinks is best for me, that’s what we’re going to jump up on.”

If Dixon takes the JuCo route, he’ll be able to enroll at a Division I college after graduating with an associate’s degree.

Dixon said he hopes to have a better idea of his fall destination by the end of next week.

I think it's just worded badly. I think Dixon's GPA/SAT ended up bad enough that he could not reasonably expect to pull them up by going to a prep school.

Obviously they will be more experienced on defense, but I just don't see how everyone assumes they will "build on last year" after losing their most effective QB (it was not Yates) and top 3 and NFL-bound Wide Receivers.

I don't even think Chuck was that bad about not replenishing his offensive line, and we saw the results his shoddy patchwork of a line got us.

No wonder BD and Blake recruit so many D-linemen. They're going to need 'em all considering they'll be on the field the whole game.

Wonder if BD will take a page out of O'Brien's book and move some of the slower defensive tackles, and maybe even some of the bigger, slower d' ends, over to the O-Line. I can't see him having much of a choice at this point. Otherwise they'll have to have open tryouts and invite the fattest frat boys around.

Everyone gives BD credit for turning Miami around because they were on probation but all he did really was just recruit skill players on Track scholarships. So he was still recruiting the 'Miami' name but ive yet to see him actually coach players like he's going to have to do at UNCCH if they want to have any success and a few games last year (that Maryland game in particular) point to the kind of gameday coach he actually is
