i want to do that but i'm worried about running MyTether with it...[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 8:14 PM. Reason : the phone is nearly on fire after running it for awhile]

Supposedly, pricing on the Pre Plus is moving to 49.99 w/ mobile hotspot for free. That is very tempting.
4/1/2010 8:20:54 AM
I've been running the 800mhz patch since it came out with great results. Not a single freeze or reset and the "lag" is completely gone. Sucks I'll have to remove it today (or whenever 1.4.1 comes out), but hopefully they'll get a new kernel out quickly.

4/1/2010 7:36:09 PM
well apparently it is free for existing users. i just went to my "change features" and added it for 0.00/month. haven't tested it out yet though.
4/1/2010 8:35:58 PM
Mobile HotSpot is working (for free) on Sprint again with the 1.4.1 update today:http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/239368-mobile-hot-spot.htmlI can confirm that it works according to that post.
4/1/2010 8:41:05 PM
just tried it out and it works beautifully! if they keep the pre at 49.99 and have the hotspot feature free, sales HAVE to go up

^Sure it is ... if they get bought by a solid hardware company like HTC or Lenovo, who could use a solid mobile operating system like WebOS, then it's good. If, however, they get bought by a company that just wants their patent portfolio then Palm will become just another part of history. But I remain hopeful for WebOS.
4/12/2010 2:02:14 AM
WebOS is what? the 5th 6th most popular Mobile OS? I just really don't see why anyone would want to invest any money at all in what looks to be a sinking ship./not really a troll, but it probably looks like one.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 5:57 AM. Reason : crap, I forgot one.]
4/12/2010 5:31:22 AM
you have to consider that it's only available on 2 phones (4 if you really want to count the "Plus" versions as a diff. phone). The phones were introduced to the public through some of the worst advertising in the history of marketing, were only available on Sprint for the very large majority of their lifespan, and have been reviewed as being lacking in hardware. I think WebOS got enough good reviews for other companies to be interested in it.
4/12/2010 7:53:05 AM
Palm seems to consistently deliver an outstanding interface, then let themselves stagnate. For the sake of nostalgia, I do hope that somebody who's interested in seeing Palm produce more good products buys them. I wouldn't own a non-GSM phone, but otherwise the Pre would've been worth a look.
4/12/2010 9:34:13 AM
well i think the Palm CEO is right, the Pre/Pixi should have come to Verizon first before the Droid if they were going to stand a chance. but big red put so much behind the Droid (all the ads), there's no hope for the Palm devices if they don't advertise. i mean i see Droid ads on buses, i see about 2-3 Droid ads a day, ads on the internet, they're virtually everywhere. to this date i think i've only seen 2, maybe 3 Palm device advertisements.i'll be completely honest, i think the Palm Pre & the webOS are probably the best device and OS on the market (Droid & Android a close 2nd). but if it lacks backing, it's hard to buy into. that's what swayed my buying decision.i wanted app support for my device and i didn't want to switch to AT&T. most of the people that ALREADY have an iPhone app are now looking to develop an Android app.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 10:58 AM. WebOS is probably the cleanest and most enjoyable mobile OS experiences but Palm isn't going to get anywhere with crap hardware and little advertising. I'd love to see WebOS make it to other devices.

Rumors of Best Buy discontinuing the Pre Plus. Or at least that's what a guy claimed they told him.http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1636982It's funny watching Verizon throw in everything but the kitchen sink to help save the phone. $199 to $49 in 3 months, free wifi tethering. What more can they do?
4/15/2010 9:27:18 PM
^^^there's an android app called Shazam, maybe that will help your search for a port over

As soon as Palm finishes the API for the microphone we'll have it.Hey, it only took them 6 months to get out an awesome video recording application (including the new API to use it, of course). All the while they were pushing many enhancements and fixes for other areas of the phone. They are very active with development. The problem you're seeing is that WebOS is still in the baby stage of development, much like iPhone OS was in version 1. But hey, we've already got copy/paste, multitasking, native applications, video recording, etc.[Edited on April 15, 2010 at 10:31 PM. Reason : .]

i don't understand why anyone wouldn't like this phone...
4/19/2010 2:16:27 PM
lack of apps, that's about it. i don't think it's that people don't like the phone, i think they just find out real fast that all the websites & companies have iPhone & Android apps, but no support for Pre.for me personally i was going to get the Pre when it came out on Verizon, but WHILE i waited, the Droid & Eris were released and surpassed the Pre in popularity before the Pre even came out on Verizon, and in turn picked up all the developers that may have developed for Palm. but i mean come on if you were a developer, who'd you develop for, Google or Palm? one has a track record for success, the other is on the hinge of being bought out. doesn't matter if the hardware & software is better, it's just all in how it's seen in the public eye.... no matter how good the platform is to develop for, developers follow the money.[Edited on April 19, 2010 at 3:52 PM. marketing, marketing, marketing. If it had the backing of the droid when it came out on sprint, who knows where palm would be. The return rate would probably be 10x what it is now but at least they probably wouldn't be on the verge of a buyout. WebOS is great but the hardware just isn't there. I'd love to see it on a device like the Evo or Incredible.

^They're desperate. They've been 'bribing' their senior executives to stay on board with cash incentives ($250,000) and stock options. The CFO already jumped ship.

This is quite intriguing...Rahul Sood (the respected CEO behind Voodoo PC) turned down higher offers from Dell and private buyers to sell to HP - citing their desire for innovation and research. If this is still holding true since the Voodoo days than I can't think of a much better buyer than HP.
4/28/2010 4:15:53 PM
Palm needed a big company to buy them, HP needed a way back in to the mobile device market. They both win. And hopefully we win, too. Hey HP ... don't screw WebOS up.
4/28/2010 4:55:35 PM
Rumor has it that HP is looking to extend WebOS to other devices (tablets?)
4/28/2010 5:28:05 PM
that would be a pretty nice idea. WebOS is one of the better things that Palm has done.

I continue to enjoy webOS multitasking. Especially with the Uber-Kernel and Govnah giving me the ability to dynamically clock the processor between 125Mhz and 800Mhz ... Battery life has never been better. Also, $20 for a Touchstone, thanks Radioshack for putting it on sale:http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/33784/palm-touchstone-charging-dock-for-palm-pre-and-pixi-phones-20-palm-pre-vehicle-power-adaptercharger

I have my Palm Pre running 100% stable at 1Ghz, it absolutely smokes and does not have any temperature issues or OS lockups. Further, battery consumption has actually decreased from the stock 500Mhz or even the previously OC'd 800Mhz due to more optimizations. The installation is as simple as putting the WebOS Internals testing feed into Preware, clicking install, and rebooting.Kernel Feeds (use the one for your OS version):http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/webos-kernels/testing/1Ghz - F105 Thunderchief (alpha) OC kernel:http://forums.precentral.net/web-os-development/252133-f105-thunderchief-alpha.htmlThe image above is not my Palm Pre.Also, I am excited that I was correct about HP's intention to create many more devices with webOS:http://www.precentral.net/hp-and-palm-promise-next-generation-webos-devices

In short, it is very safe, but keep in mind that Global Thermonuclear War is always a possibility when overclocking. So these recent overclocked kernels (particularly F105) are currently in use by many people testing them for full stability, and thus far I don't know of anyone who has reported a dead phone. There is a strict "code of overclocking" being followed by the WebOSInternals guys with regard to the code for overclocking and doing their best to ensure nothing crashes and burns into a pit of fire. They've done a great job so far.If you later decide to remove or change your kernel, it's as simple as tapping remove in Preware. The kernel can also be updated by tapping update in Preware. If anything untoward (power failure, etc) happens while the installation/removal of a kernel mod is in progress, there is always webOS Doctor to restore the phone. So far we don't think it is possible to brick these things.[Edited on July 6, 2010 at 4:35 PM. Reason : .]
