DJ why is it she had her tubes tied in the first place? And why is it creepy your sister offered to carry for you?
I don't see it as being that odd. Recently a friend went through a horrible ordeal in which she not only lost her fetus at 5.5 months but is also no longer able to have children. Should her and her husband decide they want another child I offered to be their surrogate. 8/1/2009 9:08:55 AM

She got married really young and her ex husband was a real controlling douche. He made it clear that he didn't want kids and that she shouldn't either, so he pretty much coerced her to have it done. Why didn't he just get a vasectomy? like i said, he's a douche
And it's not really all that creepy about my sister. I just think it would be interesting.
^ it wouldn't be my sister's egg, it would be my gf's. it would just be implanted in my sister after fertilized with my sperm

I don't think it is all that difficult to reverse it, but it's expensive.
from my research, it's an outpatient procedure that takes less than an hour

Cheaper than IVF, but only about 60% success rate (find a really good doc and pay whatever they want). By far, your cheapest and easiest option is to adopt. As a bonus, adoption does not cause saggy boobs or stretch marks! 8/1/2009 12:06:54 PM

I find it hard to believe that it is cheaper and easier to adopt a child than to have an outpatient surgery that takes less than an hour. 8/1/2009 12:09:33 PM

and this is a stupid reason to adopt:

outpatient surgery with a 60% success rate.
Considering that she's obviously getting older, the chances of it happening without additional $$$ are lower. So the surgery will be over $10k, then you have to plan on some fertility meds and it might not even work. You can get a perfectly healthy white infant from Russia for about $20k, and that'll have a 100% success rate. You'll pay a ton less if you don't want a white kid. One of my cousins got a Honduran infant for free (or whatever minimal fees the gov. charges) from the local social services or whatever agency handles adoptions. It was funny, the mom didn't understand that to have a free ticket to stay in the US you have to keep the kid and not just pop one out here. Gave the kid up then got deported, so my cousin doesn't have to deal with any crazy baby momma trying to take the kid back. ![](images/beatup.gif) 8/1/2009 12:17:44 PM

I have a friend that adopted 2 kids from Russia. They cost him $60k each, factoring in the fact that he and his wife had to travel back and forth to Russia several times per child.
And The Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center runs $5400-$5900 for the procedure, so I'm not sure where you are getting your figures from. But they are wrong.

Most insurance does not cover tubal ligation reversal. I've never seen a policy that does cover it.
If you want to go to a place that advertises "affordable tubal ligation reversal" that's your choice, but I'd go to the best. You really don't want to know all the problems that can happen if they half ass a reversal. The expenses related to the half assed reversal will not be covered by insurance either. And depending on how the tubes were tied the success rate could be much lower. Depends on how much of the tube was cauterized. Might not be enough left to connect. And with the low success rate and her being older, it's very possible you're just flushing $6k down the drain. 8/1/2009 12:41:11 PM

according to their website, they have a 67% success rate for women in the age range of my gf. By that I mean that 67% of the women in my gf's age range that got reversals there became pregnant.

But the success rate varies for individuals depending on how the original surgery was done. Could be they have a high success rate because they refuse to work on women that had their first surgery done poorly. Who knows. All I'm saying is that it's not as simple and you make it out to be. To keep a 67% success rate they are definitely turning away poor candidates. No way to tell if your gf is one. 8/1/2009 12:50:38 PM

I am just making the distinction that this isn't just some clinic in a basement somewhere. Just because it is affordable, doesn't mean they aren't reputable doctors. Could you please post a link to where you got your $10k+ quote from so I can compare? 8/1/2009 12:53:01 PM

That's about what they billed my insurance for my tubal ligation and checking for endometriosis. ~30 mins under so a reversal would be more I went to several doctors before I found one that I was 100% confident in, but it was worth it and I ended up getting 2 docs for the price of one during my surgery since one had more experience with endo (which I didn't have) and the other had more with the filshe clips they used on my tubes.
I've been to a enough doctors to know that I only want the best, especially when it comes to surgery. 8/1/2009 1:21:12 PM

Same here, except I was 24 and she didn't look a day over 30. Scene:
me: You seem to be having a blast. What's the big occasion? her: 29 years ago today, I had my daughter me: .... me: Certainly you mean "29 years ago, your mom had a daughter, right?" her: No, I have a 29-year-old daughter. And a 27-year-old, but her birthday was in February me: You had two kids by the time you were 18? (I start re-considering.) her: No, I'm 51-- me: How many? her: 51! I was born in 1957-- (Holy shit. My mom was born in 1955!)
Well, she showed me her ID, we hit it off anyway, and, well...
as for today, I'm 25, and I don't give a shit about age as long as she's done with high school
