WTF is a 53 BLOCK??? 11/3/2009 11:43:32 PM |
Hurley Suspended 7284 Posts user info edit post |
53 block is a certain group of castings that have a seemingly weaker structure, iirc from the 99-02 year range of 24V trucks. here again, if you're not talking about much power over stock, probably not going to be a problem. 11/4/2009 7:36:52 AM |

But note, not all, or even most of those trucks had a 53 block. It is cast onto the side of the block somewhere, but I couldn't tell you exactly how to find it.11/4/2009 9:53:07 AM |

Hate to break it to ya, I wasnt ever gonna buy a fucking 6.5 - I actually know better than that. I believe the appropriate internet term is 'trolled'...
Truck is a '98 24V, DRW, Club Cab, Lariat, Leather, 3.55, 5 speed, all things considered a good truck I think. Got it for less than $6k too, drove it almost 3 hours home with only one little problem, 5th gear fell off about 5 miles from home.
[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 11:10 PM. Reason : its one of those trucks with a bunch of little issues] 11/11/2009 11:07:38 PM |

hahah damn, the epic 5th gear nut.
And, consider me trolled about the 6.5. I really thought you wanted one
But, for that price, you scored. Nice purchase. Where did you find it? 11/11/2009 11:32:04 PM |

pull the extension housing, push the gear back on, get it welded back up and roll with it. chase has done em and can do em still 11/11/2009 11:37:35 PM |
optmusprimer All American 30318 Posts user info edit post |
HA I called it a Lariat
I really dont know if its a club or a quad cab- anyhow its got the access doors.
As far as welding the nut on, theres no welder here so its not getting welded anytime soon. Maybe next week, but tomorrow I am probably gonna take it apart and take a look, who knows the gear might be fuxored. 11/12/2009 12:52:50 AM |

it's a press fit stock, usually the diesel power and torque ends up shaking/pushing/wearing the press fit out. the gear is probably fine but will probably slide right onto where it should have to be pressed on. 11/12/2009 1:28:51 AM |

Just get a lift pump that can feed that vp44...even if it ain't a FASS setup, get something. Run two cheaper pumps in parallel and then thru a RACOR separator/coalescer. 11/12/2009 1:36:09 AM |

It's possible there is already some fuel supply mod done.
Tomorrow it gets the official once-over/post purchace inspection. I'll be sure to let y'all know what I find. Thanks for all the help. 11/12/2009 1:56:18 AM |

My suggestion is an AirDog - from pureflow technologies. they've made kits for the big rigs for a while.
Dan, what's the price of that racor unit?
do what jeepman says!
we need pyro/boost too - drill the wastegate on the trubo and set it to 35psi! if you do that, its recommended to drill a 2.5-3" hole on the firewall side of the airbox to decrease the intake resistance with the newly acquired boost 11/12/2009 8:07:22 AM |

I know, right? Some silverado/sierra/tahoe/burban/denali/escalade front seats in this thing would be the trick though. The dodgems has leather and all but the old cadillac makes this thing look like a damn vinyl seat rubber floor work truck! This truck definitely has the muscle and the hustle though, was rowing some gears last night in the rain (forget about 1st gear with no load) and its awesome how hard this thing pulls with such little RPM. Been a couple years since I drove one and the last one was an automatic, not quite the same sensation. The difference in 60mph and 70mph on level highway is barely 100rpm.

Well before I plan anything for the fuel system I am gonna see what setup is currently on the truck, I really didnt get the chance yesterday. I think I definitely want to get a fuel pressure gauge with warning like Matt was telling me he wanted to do. Its funny cause I laughed at him when he told me, guess now I have researched the shit a little I understand. As far as pyro, did this truck come with the 3 peice manifold? Cause its on there, and there are two drilled/tapped holes for EGT probes in the center section. Looks like one of them used to have a probe in it actually, the plug is different than the other hole. As far as a boost guage, I will worry about that once I get the truck all checked over and know what I am gonna have to do. The wastegate and airbox might already be modded, who knows? Would it be easy to tell if the wastegate has been drilled?

^that's a 12V power kit, and it's wayyyyyyy overpriced.
^^you have to remove the turbo (or remove downpipe, unhook wastegate arm and use a mirror to inspect) to see if the 2nd volute has been drilled. if you have a drill press the process is about 2hrs total. I overdrilled mine to 15/16 through both volutes
also check to see if you still have the stock turbo (just a thought withthe 3-piece manifold... stock does crack though.)

332whp, at a 15% loss is 390hp at the crank... @ 10% loss it's 370 at the crank.

depends on how you look at it. true, it's overpriced just from a product standpoint. however, what you are paying for is the r&d banks puts into their shit. not only do they test their stuff and make adjustments so that it performs correctly but they test the competitors stuff to show their true results rather than what the company claims to be true.11/12/2009 1:25:28 PM |
Hurley Suspended 7284 Posts user info edit post |
depends on his chosen combination. there are other options out there for less with the same performance, you just have to know what you are looking for.
in all seriousness though, those kits from banks arent the only options as far as the suggested componentry. 11/12/2009 1:28:47 PM |

I was at certifit today, but they didnt have a matching pair for me- they had one textured LH, one blue painted LH (??), and one sport RH. Really I could use the ones that are on the truck now but the painted to match sport surrounds make the lamps look funny on a white truck. Plus I am missing some harness and all the bulb sockets on the RH side. 11/12/2009 7:03:36 PM |
