imo they should have just included tomorrow never knows and not the remix

it's not a real beatles song so it doesn't belong there

but that's just my opinion

the remix is still good

It's not a real Beatles song--it's TWO real Beatles songs!

I just thought it was cool the way they mixed things together, and the backwards "Gnik Nus" thing, and just the innovation that went into creating a new piece for the Cirque show using only what was already there.

You said you did! No backsies!

Helter Skelter is hard as fuck on Beatles Rock Band. I can totally see how that song would have inspired an imaginary racial apocalypse.

fun fact about Helter Skelter on Beatles Rock Band: the only song in the game I have not gold starred on vocals

and I probably never will unless I have 3 singers

there's too much bullshit that shouldn't have been notated

I hate shit like this. It's an incredibly easy song to play on guitar or bass assuming you have the forearm strength to thump along for the entire thing.

Thumping along doesn't have anything to do with forearm strength--that comes in when you have a fast series of notes for which you have to be constantly pressing the top buttons and, since your non-dominant hand is the one that presses the top buttons, most people struggle with that. Either way, the drum and vocal parts ARE hard!

[Edited on January 2, 2010 at 9:04 PM. Reason : why am I justifying this, it's a video game]

I'm talking about thumping on an actual bass.

OH...well, that makes a lot more sense. That's a different story--there are a lot of songs that are harder on Guitar Hero/Rock Band than they are to play in real life. And it's frustrating for people who play for real to see the inconsistencies with the game.

^ Which is completely ridiculous. Just learn to play the goddamned song for real.

I'm not hating on those who play the game (my roommate and I wore out GH/GH2), but when the game becomes harder than real life, why not switch to something that can lead to creativity?

I feel you. There are far more benefits to playing a real instrument than playing Rock Band; however, if the latter draws people to the former, there's some benefit. Unfortunately I think people are more apt to spend $150 on a video game setup than on a cheap guitar.

"Paul McCartney wanted Let It Be to appear as it did on the 2003 re-release; Phil Spector got the tapes after the Beatles were through, and after his production shit was done they didn't really get a say in the finished product. I know McCartney in particular hated the finished album and that lingering resentment was the reason for the Let It Be...Naked album, which reflects what it should have been."

I believe it was really only Paul who was dissatisfied with Phil Spector's treatment of Let It Be (the album). Paul was very displeased with The Long And Winding Road (which I think the song isn't that good, anyway). After all, it was John Lennon and (I believe) George Harrison who brought in Phil to finish the album. There were a series of different mixes and compilations of songs before him (which you can find on the Internet).

But I do believe that John really liked Phil Spector's treatment of Let It Be though. He did have him produce Imagine (the Album). Although I don't really find Spector's influence in Imagine as much as I do on Let It Be, although it is there (like on Jealous Guy, I'm sure he's responsible for the strings and what not in the background, but they don't take a predominant role in the song).

I think you're right about Lennon--toward the end I think he was sometimes looking to piss off Paul just because.

The weird part is that John went into making one of the later albums (I don't remember whether it was Let It Be or Abbey Road; I think it was Abbey Road) wanting it to be just the music with no production over it, and then ended up wanting it done over and over to get a perfect take, and then adding production afterward anyway. I think John Lennon was an amazing musician, but I can see how he would have been very difficult to deal with.

There's a great piece about the Beatles' breakup in Rolling Stone from a couple of months ago.

it's just my opinion

but I don't think there will ever be a band to match The Beatles

people say they brought music in the direction it should go

I disagree

pop music has gone downhill ever since they broke up

I'm gonna disagree and say that Please Please Me in itself was pretty fucking revolutionary sons

recorded in one day

twist and shout done in one take

some good stuff on that album

shows how masterful they are at an early stage

no but I was serious with please please me

they pretty much made their mark right from the start after getting signed to EMI or whoever it was (my facts are hazy)

Beatles for Sale was kind of a flop, but it was still pretty good imo

I dunno, just opinions

I would just like to add that Help! is a great movie as well and was my favorite when I was little.

For the longest, I wanted a sunken bed like Ringo had in the living room of their flat.

Nothing to do with the music, but in my opinion the Beatles' movies had more artistic merit (as comedy) than Elvis's movies, which did nothing to advance a previously promising career. Elvis was poorly managed.

A Hard Day's Night is one of the best British comedies ever made.

The rest of the movies are fun but not nearly as good.

The joke here is that the actor who played Paul's grandfather also played the senior Steptoe on "Steptoe & Son," the British precursor to "Sanford & Son."

favorite songs by each Beatle everyone?

and in Ringo or George's case, it can be if they sung lead on it

John: Because/Rain (I can't choose between those two, but if I had to keep one, it would be Because)
Paul: Getting Better
George: You Like Me Too Much (Here Comes the Sun is so close to 2nd it might as well be tied, though)
Ringo: With a Little Help From My Friends
